Any success stories of women who conceived and gave birth after first cycle of IVF/ICSI?

OP posts:

I'd really love to hear some success stories too, we'll only get one nhs funded round

Scirocco · 01/10/2021 13:53

I don't quite meet those criteria but maybe I can help... I'm currently 20+6 pregnant after pur first cycle of ICSI.

We had a 7 year history of TTC, with 2 miscarriages in that time. At 5 years our GP referred us for fertility investigations but we were deemed "unexplained". We were put on the IVF waiting list and waited about 18 months from referral to starting treatment.

Despite good AMH and AFC, I responded unexpectedly poorly to stims and we only got 6 eggs, and only 3 of them fertilised. 1 made it to blastocyst for day 5 but the others didn't make it at all. We were fairly pessimistic at this point.

But... We got a positive and that little blastocyst is currently getting bigger every day. We had a normal 20 week scan and baby is now starting to kick quite a bit!

I don't know if that helps?

Early days yet but currently 7 weeks with first nhs funded ivf cycle (ivf not ICSI). Get ready it's an absolute rollercoaster!

@Scirocco that's great to hear and really reassuring, we only got the one 5 day blasto too, but hoping this is our one miracle ❤️

Scirocco · 01/10/2021 14:42

Congratulations @Ashleighz88 and good luck! I really hope you and baby stay well! 💜

Ashleighz88 · 01/10/2021 15:03

@Scirocco thank you, I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes quickly and smoothly 🥰

Betsyboo87 · 01/10/2021 20:06

Yes we were successful first time and now have a very energetic one year old. I know how very fortunate we were. I was 35 with AFC of 11 and AMH of 9.2 and my clinic gave us a 50% chance. Best of luck with your treatment.

Holskey · 02/10/2021 15:34

My one NHS funded cycle gave me my 15 month old and 9 blastocysts in the freezer. We were extremely lucky, but some people are, so you might as well be hopeful. You just don't know how you'll respond until you've done it.

firefly37 · 02/10/2021 16:27

Our first fresh ICSI IVF resulted in my DS now 4! I had 8 mature eggs, 5 fertilised and 3 made it to day 5. I was 36 with an AMH of 7. Our second fresh ICSI IVF resulted in my DD now almost 2! Only 3 mature eggs but all 3 fertilised and made it to day 5. I was almost 39 with AMH of 5.2. We are currently preparing for round 3... I am now 41 with an AMH of 5 xx

SEtwins · 02/10/2021 18:01

Our first and only NHS funded IVF cycle gave us our lovely twins (the implanted embryo split) - we consider ourselves so very fortunate. Nearly 5 years TTC before that, with other ovulation induction treatments etc and two miscarriages.

windy2909 · 02/10/2021 19:42

@Scirocco - love your story ending - just shows it really only takes one!

I had similar numbers. Unexplained infertility and I had AMH of 17.4 at nearly 36 years of age. We got 6 eggs, only 3 fertilised and 2 made it to day 5 blasts. Both had to be frozen due to risk of OHSS. First FET resulted in our little boy. We had 2nd FET at the end of August this year and I am almost 8 weeks pregnant and honestly still can’t believe how lucky we’ve been. Hope this gives others hope and best of luck to you all.

Holskey · 02/10/2021 20:21

@windy2909 I love your story! I'm having a FET this month. After my first FET was successful, I'm wondering if it's possible to be so lucky as to have this FET work too! 🤞

thislittlebird · 03/10/2021 14:54

Putting my head in for the stories. We’re approaching our first funded round and I’m getting worried.

thislittlebird · 03/10/2021 14:57

@firefly37 your story is giving me some hope. I keep worrying I’m getting too old, I’ll be 38.5 by the time our first round comes along and I am kicking myself for not starting ttc sooner. I was 36 when we started.

Saltisford · 10/10/2021 23:00

Yes we had first time ICSI on the nhs which resulted in 10 eggs, 7 fertilised, 3 making it to day 5 and 1 becoming our beautiful two year old! We both have fertility issues - I have blocked (partially?) tubes. I was 35 and my husband, 44. Just considering what to do with the two Frosties now!

firefly37 · 11/10/2021 03:14

@thislittlebird... Be kind to yourself and your not too old! Many women have had success in their late 30s and 40s.
Lots of luck x

NorthernTights · 11/10/2021 20:55

Yup! First round of IVF, 12 eggs collected, 6 fertilisers, 3 went to blasts, only one of those was viable and is now a lanky 10 year old! Also his 8 year old brother was a surprise natural conception. So it can happen. Just don’t mention the 2 years ttc, unexplained infertility, slowly going mad as everyone became pregnant around me….. Good luck to you ☘️

Fernando072020 · 11/10/2021 21:54

Yep, here.
We got pregnant naturally then lost the baby (MMC). 2 and a half years later, we were doing our first icsi due to sudden mfi.
Only three eggs were collected, one fertilised. I honestly stayed as positive as I could and I remember just being really happy we even had one embryo! They transferred it fresh on day 2 (they said better in than out lol) and he's now my 15 month old son :)

We were very fortunate.

thislittlebird · 12/10/2021 09:51

@firefly37 thanks, I hope it works for us!

Just wondering if anyone here went private to speed things up? I’m stuck in limbo where my nhs round won’t be until 2022 and I’m really anxious that I need to get on with things because of our age.

TataMamma · 13/10/2021 09:53

I had 2 rounds of IVF. First one resulted in DD (now 10 mo), and second one resulted in DD2, due in Feb. Am aware I'm very lucky!
I had 24 eggs taken (in one sitting) - 9 are still in the deep freeze, and 15 eggs were converted into 6 blasts, so still have 4 blasts left.
Best of luck x

Miracle29 · 17/10/2021 21:46

I am another successful story first time ivf and got my beautiful dd.

@thislittlebird I did private ivf. Rang clinic and was booked in within a week to go through everything, I already had my bloods done with my gp and started ivf 2 weeks after that.

EmmaLuca1401 · 16/03/2022 22:56

Congratulations to all successful stories! Just wondering how many first time ICSI successes were down to MFI?? We already have a 4 year old miracle son (conceived naturally with low quality and motility). But having to resort to private funding ICSI after 2 years unsuccessful TTC. Costing an absolute fortune, but will be worth it if we get a baby! We’ve gone with Care fertility (Nottingham) if anyone has experience with this chain?

Mrsmch123 · 16/03/2022 23:01

We had first time success with icsi for male factor. Trying to talk the husband into using the Frosties that we have for a sibling.....

sciencepotato · 06/04/2022 18:58

Yes, doing ICSI right now, also with Care Nottingham ☺️ they are good. Done my first round with them last year too, but wasn't very impressed at their communication. This time round things have really improved. So fingers crossed ☺️

EmmaLuca1401 · 06/04/2022 20:27

That’s interesting! I can’t fault them so far, but never had any previous communication with them! Had my first stims scan this morning - was hoping they’d say I was ready as very bloated and uncomfortable but looks like a few more days of injections to go! Good luck to you!

LondonladyTTC · 06/04/2022 20:53

We had ICSI due to male factor with ABC St. Paul's. Feel incredibly lucky as we did have success on the first cycle and almost at the 12 week mark now. Also have 3 frosties on ice.
Best of luck to those going through the process at the moment!
