Starting this thread early!

We've just booked for our second round to start August 2nd with egg collection September 8th.

I was on the Jan/Feb thread earlier this year.

Come join me :)

Hi @foodiefil :)

I might be around then - hoping to start end-July or end-August after an unsuccessful 1st round in March.

How are you doing? The waiting is killing me...

foodiefil · 02/06/2021 16:53

Hello! @beachbum85 I'm doing ok thank you. Got a lot to be distracted with so that helps!
Our first round yielded one embryo and that ended in a chem pregnancy. Feeling hopeful 🙂

But because we only got one we've got to do the whole lot again! Hoping this time we get more than one embryo x

@foodiefil I'm sorry to hear about the chemical pregnancy but that does sound very hopeful indeed! Fingers crossed that you get more embryos and that one sticks :)

We had 7 embryos on Day 3, but none that developed as expected, or were of good quality on Day 5 - that was really disappointing and quite a shock really. We transferred the best looking early blast but that was unsuccessful, and we had none to freeze, so we have to start over too! Luckily I was mostly OK with the meds last time so I'm not dreading that and am just hoping for better results this time x

foodiefil · 02/06/2021 18:12

I can totally understand why that was a shock. I've known someone who had a similar first round, a really good second round in terms of egg collection but didn't get pregnant then for the third round they put two embryos back in and they now have beautiful twins! It might be a longer road than most have but we'll get there ❤️🤞🏼

beachbum85 · 03/06/2021 10:54

Ohhh that's a very encouraging story, thanks for sharing @foodiefil
Do you know if they made any changes to the protocol or anything else for that second egg collection? We're still waiting to speak to the consultant following our first round and thinking of what questions to ask...

Definitely we will get there! Hopefully not much longer 🤞🏼 xx

foodiefil · 03/06/2021 11:04

My understanding is that they didn't - they did everything the same but had better success with the second round x

OP posts:
beachbum85 · 03/06/2021 11:13

Oh wow! That's really great :)
Thanks xx

beachbum85 · 29/06/2021 21:32

Hi @foodiefil
How's it going? Just got a call from the clinic today and we'll be starting 28 July (long protocol), so just a few days before you! Don't have a date for egg collection yet, but I think it'll be around end August based on my previous round... Getting excited already :)

Coops0406 · 29/06/2021 22:03

Hi, I hope you don't mind me joining...I was just in another thread for June which I found so supportive throughout, but we got BFN on Friday ☹️ I had already clicked to watch this group as we were expected to have lots eggs and quite a few Frosties ready for maybe a transfer around august...but unfortunately we only got 2 eggs and 1 fertilised which was put back in on the 14th june but didn't make it.

Sound like we are all in similar ish positions, is this your second round for both of you?

beachbum85 · 30/06/2021 13:41

Sorry to hear about your BFN @Coops0406 - it's really hard :(

Yes, that's similar to us in that we have no frosties and we have to start a second round from scratch now... first round was in March and we were told we have to wait at least 3 full cycles, so we're starting at the end of July.

Will you have a follow-up consultation to discuss this round and see if any improvements can be made?

Coops0406 · 30/06/2021 15:20

@beachbum85 oh gosh, I didn't realise you had to wait so long before starting another cycle! I'll be so old by the time I get there! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Yes, follow up a week today with consultant and I also complained to my nhs gynae consultant about a possible misdiagnosis of polycycstic ovaries and they have made me an appointment on the 12th July. So all moving nicely in the right direction.

Has your protocol changed from the first one? Do they discuss all that in your follow up?

beachbum85 · 30/06/2021 15:43

@Coops0406 I don't know if it's just our clinic's policy, but we're NHS so they do seem to operate on the cautious side...

Glad you have the follow up and another consultation booked in!
Our follow-up appointment was scheduled for July, so we won't be having it as I preferred to move ahead with the second cycle without waiting any longer. I discussed my questions with the nurse when she called... Same protocol as I responded well, but they'll just increase the stims dose for a few days to try recruit more follicles. I'm sure they'd talk about it all in the follow-up.

I don't know if you use it, but there's an app called Fertility Circle and there's a suggested list of questions to ask at the follow-up appointment there :)

Coops0406 · 30/06/2021 15:53

@beachbum85 thanks I'll have a look!

It can be a bit slow with the nhs so we'll probably just have to push on with a paid cycle as I just want to get going again.

So exciting for you to be starting your nee cycle! I'll hopefully know more on a week's time!

beachbum85 · 30/06/2021 16:06

Thanks! Pop back and let us know when you find out more!

2mumlife · 30/06/2021 17:03

Hi ladies. I'm hoping we'll be doing our second EC round starting end of may/early August.

I did an EC round in Feb/March which went badly - stimmed for very few number of days before trigger which I still think we were told to take way to early, so clinic was only expecting 7 eggs from me, day of EC my eggs hadn't matured so wouldn't come away from follicule wall so only collected 4 eggs. Only 2 eggs were mature, but luckily made a 5AA and 4AA blast. We had a bad fresh transfer and my AF started only 4dpt5dt. We had FET last month, which ended in a chemical.

We're planned to move to a short flare protocol given problems of first EC, but will have review consultation on 14th so will know more about our plan then.

2mumlife · 30/06/2021 17:04

No idea why I wrote end of may, I meant end of July!

TheSnufflet · 01/07/2021 15:06

Hi all, hope you don't mind me joining - it seems most people here are on round 2? I'm tentatively due to start a new EC round in September after just having had a round where we had zero fertilisation (so literally no embryos at all). I have to wait two full cycles to begin again.

This next round I should be on a higher dose of stims from the start and hopefully for not too long (I went for 17 days on my last one) but otherwise it will remain a long protocol cycle as I found the meds to be not too bad.

beachbum85 · 02/07/2021 13:55

@2mumlife I'm sorry to hear about your previous round and your chemical last month - that must have been really difficult :(
I'm on a long protocol starting end-July, so you'll likely be just a bit before me with EC. I really hope it goes better this time! Let us know how your consultation goes xx

@TheSnufflet oh I'm sorry to hear about your previous round too :( do they know why no eggs fertilized? I hope this time is far more successful :)
It's our second round too... We had a few embryos but none developed as they should have, so they're giving me a higher dose of stims too, to aim for a higher number and (hopefully) a greater probability of a good quality one. I was also OK on the meds and that's really helping me keep my chin up 🤞

Lotusflower1990000 · 02/07/2021 20:21

Hi all i hope you don’t mind me joining this one too! I am booked in for egg collection on September 18th so a little over yours I look forward to hearing about how you are all getting on and your experiences it’s my first round of a ivf long protocol so very nervous but excited baby dust to all xxx

Coops0406 · 04/07/2021 20:08

@2mumlife sorry to hear about your failed transfers. I hope your review meeting goes well and you can get going again soon. We have ours this Tuesday but we will then be moving into our paid cycle and still haven't arranged what we'll do!

@TheSnufflet that must have been hard to hear. Have they discussed things with you to know how to move forward?? Did you produce a good amount of eggs? I supposedly have polycycstic ovaries but only produced 2 eggs! Had one make it to EC but it didn't take. And on the last scan before the trigger the nurse said it didn't look like my ovaries were polycycstic! So lots to discuss in our review meeting!

@Lotusflower1990000 ahh, you must be so excited to just get going!! I think we may end up being around September too if we have to wait a few cycles...I'm hoping that I can just start on my next cycle coming though!

IOTO · 05/07/2021 23:19

Decided to skip two months to allow more time for supplements to work. Hoping to have egg retrieval in September.

Hansoo · 06/07/2021 23:08

Hi I'm a newbie to ivf. We had a zoom consultation in June. We have a nurses consultation at end of July to have an internal scan and blood tests. I dont know what the next step is for us after that. When booking the July appointment she did ask when I would be expecting my August cycle so I wondered if the injections would commence at that point for a egg collection in September. But its our first time so all I know is what I read. We will be at jessops

2mumlife · 13/07/2021 14:45

@beachbum85 Thank you. Having consultation tomorrow so should know more what the plan is then. There was some talk about redoing my AMH but I hope we don't need that as found out that could delay us for months (I don't remember it taking so long when I got it done before!?!?). Hopefully a different dosage works for you.

@Coops0406 We've unfortunately had to pay for EVERYTHING so far as we're a same sex couple. There is a long way to go when it comes to reproductive equality.... how did your consultation go? Fingers crossed for you!

Good luck to our first time IVFers! Words of advise: the Mindful IVF app is great, the injections are totally fine (don't faff with ice cubes and all that, just go for it) and quality over quantity of eggs :) @Lotusflower1990000 @Hansoo

Coops0406 · 13/07/2021 19:45

@2mumlife it's so unfair! And then different places offer no cycles and some offer 3! It just needs to be a fair playing field really! Why would redoing your AMH take time?

@Hansoo it sounds like they are gearing up to slot things in with their scheduling based on your next cycle! Exciting!! 😍 On my first round I rang with day 1 then on day 16 I started on norithisterone tablets for 3 weeks, then had my withdrawal bleed then started injections...so mine was a long process (or at least felt like it!)

So just an update for us, we had our review meeting from the failed cycle, it seemed to be quite a rubbish meeting focussing on the negative options first...like don't try ivf again, or try with egg donors, which went on for ages! I was shocked, I stopped him as I felt he was pushing those as our only options...then he finally went on about how poorly I responded and questioned whether my AMH was correct (it's 25 but I responded like it was 2.5 so he wanted to do it again) then what they would do differently next time. Felt like a bit of a wasted meeting really. But he did send out the home pin prick test immediately which I did on Saturday and sent off so should have AMH results back maybe later this week...fingers crossed it's high 🤞🏾

But we are definitely going elsewhere now that we are paying for it!! Don't know if I'm being too sensitive but from people I have seen on these threads they seem to have better care and more scans/info throughout the process
