Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

I was just reading a thread on the homepage from today, a lady with 4 children saying how she regrets having them and lots of comments from ladies saying they feel the same way! Maybe the grass is always greener?

thelittlepeanut · 07/01/2020 21:14

@Nobunintheovenyet yeah in my area you need to have been trying for 2 years as well. Still worth seeing what the gp says though as maybe they'll refer you based on your oh's results. If not, you know you can go private as a fallback option.

Hi @Lammoshay sorry you're struggling ttc as well. Let us know how your appointment goes on Thursday!

@MallonMary those kind of posts really annoy me. If she didn't want them why did she have four?! I don't get it.

Beddie11 · 07/01/2020 21:32

Hi Ladies can i join? Im 29 and have been ttc no 1 for just over a year now, went through the gp as my period didnt return.. long story short turns out i have PCOS. We have out first appointment next month at the " infertility clinic ". I was a little confused when i received my letter as it stated the appointment was with gynaecology and it was only addressed to me and not my other half. I did ring them and they confirmed its an appointment with the fertility clinic. Can anyone tell me what to expect with this first appointment?
Thanks ladies

Beddie11 · 07/01/2020 21:36

Edit... fertility clinic not infertility 🙈

Nobunintheovenyet · 07/01/2020 21:46

@MallonMary I’m with thelittlepeanut why would you have them?!?!?!?

@thelittlepeanut I hope they will refer us not sure I can handle this year with no progress at all. Cant go with oh to his appointment either as im working 🙄

@Beddie11 Welcome......sorry to hear you have pcos hun, dont have any idea what happens as i’m behind you in this journey but i’m sure the other girls have a better idea.

MallonMary · 07/01/2020 22:23

@beddie11 sorry to hear that, but glad you've got an appointment. I think most of us here are a little behind you at the moment. Do update us after

@nobunintheovenyet
@mallonmary

I will update you all next week after my appointment. I only had 3 periods last year, 1 of which was forced by medication so just two natural ones, one in may and one in december.
I feel so anxious about this appointment, mostly im scared that il go and be sent away awaiting more tests. The waiting is horrible isnt it x

ForeverHopeful67 · 07/01/2020 22:39

Hi ladies, Smilehope it's okay for me to join too I'd love to go through this journey together!

@Beddie11 I'm in a similiar position with you regarding the lack of periods and reason for wanting to be referred - so I'm interested to hear how you get on!!

Myself and OH have been trying for 1 year next month and came off contraception in Sept 18 but periods never returned. I've had blood tests etc done last summer also a scan to check for PCOS which was clear, so awaiting further blood tests this week and my partner to do a semen analysis!

Fingers crossed we get some BFPs in this thread!!xx

Beddie11 · 07/01/2020 22:51

@foreverhopeful67 hi! Have u had any periods at all then in that time?
Yes fingers crossed for us all x

MallonMary · 07/01/2020 23:45

@Beddie11 the waiting is horrible, but least you've got the ball rolling!

@foreverhopeful87 hello! Welcome to the thread. Sorry to hear you're struggling too. Did the bloods last summer show whether you were ovulating? Have you used home ovulation tests to check?

Would love to see a bfp on here!! X

@Beddie11 thanks for sharing, We got referred from our doctor to the fertility clinic as we are nearly at 2 years Ttc, but I got my letter for the appointment in Feb and it also says the gynaecology department, I wasn't expecting this so also confused. Think I will have to give them a ring to find out if it's both of us or just me that needs to go, sounds like it will be the both of us if you had a similar letter. Will be interested to hear what happens at your appointment and best of luck for it ❤️❤️

Morpho123 · 08/01/2020 12:50

Hi All
do my you mind if I join this thread?
my husband had an SA and come back 147 - count, with 57% motile and 0% morphology.
I had my referral on 31st December, the specialist said that with 0% morphology it will take a little longer to conceive, but that with the other high numbers there is a good chance.
however my day 21 blood tests etc showed potentially im not ovulating. I have regular periods but they only last 2 days.
anyway im booked for a HSG scan, to check tubes/cysts etc, and the specialist has prescribed me with the following:

3x rounds of 50mg clomid
a scan between day 9-11 to check follicles.
a trigger injection to induce ovulation once follicles are good enough
2x 400mg progesterone pessaries a day in the TWW. (I spot from 6dpo so he believes I have low progesterone).

I cannot start this prescription until iv had a HSG scan, so im awaiting on that date now!

I would push for help if you can via you doctor, he said if he can get me to produce a few follicles then we would have a much better chance at pregnancy with 0% morphology too!

lts hope the HSG scan is in the next few weeks and I can start!

i am in a non funded IVF area so he said he will give me everything he can before I have the self-fund IVF so i am really grateful! xx

Maisy24 · 08/01/2020 14:17

@Morpho123 hi! Thanks for sharing my partners came back with 1% but also high on everything else so it is good to know it's still possible naturally. Also great news you have a plan in place, it's something to follow and keep focused on for the next few months, and hopefully you will get your BFP!

Xxxxxx

MallonMary · 08/01/2020 15:18

@Morpho123 hello, thanks for sharing your journey so far. Great to hear there's still a chance for you!

How long have you been trying for? Have you done home ovulation tests to check if you are ovulating?

OP posts:
Morpho123 · 08/01/2020 15:48

@Maisy24 it’s just good to hear from the professionals, so the opinion would be the same for you, it’s still got a good chance but it can just take a little longer, fingers crossed for you xxx

@MallonMary we have been trying for about a year, we are both almost 32 so wanted to get this process moving. I got a hospital letter today for my hsg so hopefully I’ll have that in about 4 weeks time, I think they like to do it on cycle day 9 after AF but before ovulation. So I’ll book that in tonight! Today is cycle day 8 for me so I won’t get it this month unfortunately!

I did do ovulation tests at first but gave up when I wasn’t falling pregnant, I use fertility friend app and do my BBT to confirm if/ when Iv ovulated but my temp is never that high which is why I thought I have low progesterone and the doctor seemed to think the same!

I’ll keep you girls up to date but I seem to be getting somewhere and am actually looking forward to trying with clomid! Xx

Mycrazylife85 · 08/01/2020 21:09

Hello all. Hope you don't mind me jumping on. I've had my blood tests and scans. I have PCOS (diagnosed at 16 but had to be re-diagnosed now I'm 34) off the pill 12 months. I have another 6 week scan to monitor a cyst on my one ovary. Husband has his sperm analysis in two weeks then I go back to doctors for my referral when we have that. My 2-5 day bloods show I ovulate (or did then) but my last cycles was 87 days long..

Beddie11 · 08/01/2020 21:40

@maisy24 i rung them and asked if it is for the fertility clinic and they said yes , i didnt ask if my hubby needed to come too i forgot when i called and then i figured i wanted him to come regardless for support so just going to rock up with him next week and see what happens! I will let you know how it goes and what happens if you like to give you an idea what to expect? When is yours?
X

Beddie11 · 08/01/2020 21:46

@morpho123.. did u get the clomid prescription at your first fertility referral appointment? Glad the ball is rolling for you, the only thing ive not had yet which ive seen alot of people mention is the hsg scan thingy, so im thinking il get referred for that when i go to my appointment next week.

Ive found it really difficult getting to the 1 year mark, i think leading up to ttc you just kind of think infertility issues wont happen to you and that within a couple of months you'll get caught. I soon learned that wasnt how it was going to be for me and i came to terms with that but then for some reason hitting the 1 year mark has just shook me alittle. I cant imagine how it feels getting to 2/3/4 years ttc, my heart goes out to any ladies going through that, heres to 2020 being the year for us all x

thelittlepeanut · 08/01/2020 22:30

@Beddie11 I've hit the 2 year mark and I can confirm it doesn't get any easier (sorry!) but you do come to terms with it, and like anything some days you think about it less than others so those days are generally better. Just have to stay positive and keep fighting for it. Good luck at your appointment next week! Let us know how it goes.

@Nobunintheovenyet just make sure oh knows exactly what to say to his gp and pushes for that referral! Fingers crossed for you.

@Morpho123 thank you for sharing your story so far! Keep us posted on your progress, always great to hear how others are doing in this process! Sounds like you're feeling positive about it too which is great Smile

ForeverHopeful67 · 08/01/2020 22:45

@Beddie11 hey! I've had a little bit of bleeding on random days throughout the year but nothing I can really count as a period! How about you? Fingers crossed for your app next week hope it goes well!

@MallonMary the bloods last year was to check my levels of progesterone etc were ok and check for PCOS and the doctors said my bloods came back ok - whatever that means! I've got bloods being done again Friday and they said they can't do the usually CD21 bloods as there's no point as I don't really have cycles!
Have tried OPKs but no luck all negative Sad

Did you chase up the referral today? X

Morpho123 · 09/01/2020 12:23

@Beddie11 the referral letter was address just to me, but they did need my husband there too, so defiantly take him with you. my husband had a SA before the appointment and they discussed his results in there together. its best he is there 100%

I got the clomid prescription at my first appointment, I couldn't believe it! when I had a blood test my ovulation results were 28, when they have to be over 30 to confirm ovulation, so the doctor suspected I wasn't ovulating properly. hence the clomid - I cant wait to start it and really hope it works!

I agree with hitting the 1year it hard! But I am actually quite positive (thank you @thelittlepeanut ), I normally let things really get to me but I guess its because we have steps in place.
we went to an opening evening of an IVF clinic near home the other day, so I know if the clomid doesn't work then that's our next step. as long as you have something booked in to help/investigate I stay positive. I get down when I feel nothing is being done!

always get the next appointment in your diary and something to work towards! my HSG should be in 3-4 weeks! im absolutely sure I have a big cyst or a blocked tube on my right as it aches all month round! xx

willithappen · 09/01/2020 19:21

Hey folks joining in here as seeing a lot of similarities!

I've had unprotected sex with my partner for five years now, three actively TTC, went to doctors in October for tests and have first appointment at fertility clinic on 21st Jan

My bloods came back 29.7 for day 21 which my doctor said was fine but I am not too convinced. Partners SA results showed good levels for everything but 1% morphology. He has always thought he couldn't have kids for some reason

My doctor doesn't think there is an issue with me as I have been pregnant in the past (once at 17 ended in MMC and once at 20 which was terminated and I now feel like everything going on now is my karma).

Morpho123 · 09/01/2020 20:23

@willithappen

This literally sounds like my life! I fell pregnant at 20 and terminated due to being so young and confused, I really feel like this in my karma too! Isn’t it terrible, we shouldn’t think that way.
I would say potentially a score under 30 could mean you haven’t ovulated or your day 21 may have been day 22 and it dropped a little which makes it normal.
You have been ttc for quite a long time with this 1% morphology! It makes me feel like maybe it won’t happen with my husbands 0%! Even though the doctor said to me ‘it will just take a little longer’!

I booked my HSG in today- have you had your tubes checked in case this is a factor?

My hsg is 6th February! Xx

willithappen · 09/01/2020 20:42

@Morpho123

In a way it's good to know I'm not alone with that feeling. Everyone says it isn't karma but I can't help but feel that way :(

I got my period exactly 7 days after the test which makes me think it was day 21 bang on. I haven't had a HSG as my doctor pretty much said as I had been pregnant before she knew I was ovulating and then because of my partners results it was enough to refer us to the fertility clinic. I guess I will find out more at the appointment on the 21st. So scared for a HSG but also kind of want it because I feel like that may be the issue. When I was pregnant we also found I had gotten an STD (my partner was cheating on me the whole time) and I'm even more worried it's clogged my tubes and convinced this would be why.

My partner did try to conceive with an ex partner of his a while back and nothing happened which is why he thought he had the problem. I read so many conflicting things on morphology though. I guess it depends what the actual morphology is? I really don't know! It's all so confusing!

Morpho123 · 09/01/2020 21:17

@willithappen I understand totally the other thing is my husband always thought he would struggle to conceive and then found out about 0 morphology, so weird they had this thought isn’t it?

I think you should ask for a hsg, I was offered one and was pregnant before? I’m 32 now so it was over 12 years ago. A lot changes in that time. How old are you now if you don’t mind me asking?
Try and push for a HSG. The nurse said it’s just like a smear- which I normally faint in 😂 good luck to me for this! It’s worth it though and I guess we have to get used to this stuff especially if we end up going down the ivf route!
My advice would be to push for the HSG to rule that out. I’m pushing for everything, will start Clomid in a couple of months and then if not we have saved for IVF! X
