Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?

Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

Welcome @CocoaTeaandGin the others have probably suggested enough already but I take folic acid, vitamin D, vitamin B complex, omega 3 and vitamin E. My DH takes wellman conception, L cartinine, maca root and omega 3.

@Morpho123 you may be ovulating! Though I've read that having EWCM doesn't necessarily mean that you will ovulate. I ovulate CD12 and normally get a little EWCM on day 11/12. They would probably be able to tell on the scan tomorrow wouldn't they??

Chochaw · 25/05/2020 17:20

@Morpho123
Have you taken cough bottle this cycle? I have had an increased amount of EWCM and I'm not due to ovulate till Sunday. Could you take some OPKs? Scan will show tomorrow.

OPK completely negative for me so that's to be expected at this stage. I feel rubbish today. I fell down the stairs this morning when carrying my daughter. I have no idea how it happened. I tried to protect her so landed terrible and have whiplash and 5 bands of bruising along my back, bum and legs where I hitvthe stairs. She is ok but hit her face and it's bruised. I feel like a terrible mother but it was an accident and couldn't be helped. Painnis reallt kicking in for me now.

My friend is still in hospital. She was induced and it didn't work so she is getting a section tomorrow or next day.x

Morpho123 · 25/05/2020 18:47

@Chochaw ouch that sounds painful. Don’t feel bad, accidents happen and you protected as much as you could!

No I didn’t do cough medicine, it’s the first time Iv had proper ewcm which I’m suprised as I’m on clomid. Not gonna bother with an opk, I’ll find out tomorrow morning anyway!

Hope your friend is okay! X

Chochaw · 25/05/2020 20:56

@morpho123 i'lk be thinking of you tomorrow. Very best of luck. Hopefully the exercise has helped the lining. X

Morpho123 · 26/05/2020 10:35

Well ladies it looks like everything I did worked! Triple layer at 8.5mm today! Also one huge follicle that’s about to pop she said! They have given me the trigger injection to take home, they aren’t sure I need it because of the size of the follicle! But the consultant is going to call me soon and let me know, if I do then I’ll administer myself tonight!
🤞🏽 I’m so happy that I managed to improve it just in time lol!

Hope you girls are okay! @Chochaw are you far from ovulation? Are you taking opks? Xx

Chochaw · 26/05/2020 11:52

@Morpho123 Fantastic news! Well done!

I still have negative OPK but app says not due to ovulate till Sunday. X

Morpho123 · 26/05/2020 12:26

@chochaw Iv just had the call and trigger done! It was really easy actually and didn’t hurt at all! So I should ovulate in 36hours I guess?? 🤞🏽
Fingers crossed for Sunday, have your hot flushes calmed down? I haven’t had any for a couple of days xx

Chochaw · 26/05/2020 12:38

@Morpho123 Super! Yep it's expected 36 hours later. Did they advise on when to DTD?x

Morpho123 · 26/05/2020 12:40

@chochaw she said dtd literally in 36 hours, but we will do tonight and tomorrow just in case, and maybe Thursday for luck lol! Then I start cyclogest pessaries one a day at night on Thursday xx

Etonmess20 · 26/05/2020 13:17

@Morpho123 that all sounds very promising, brilliant news!! X

Morpho123 · 26/05/2020 13:40

Thanks @Etonmess20 I’m really happy to have finally got to this point but obviously never want to get my hopes up. I’m just glad I managed to get a good follicle and lining! X

Etonmess20 · 26/05/2020 15:39

@Morpho123 surely that's half the battle already won but get that you don't want to get your hopes up too much! You're definitely in the best position you can be x

Chochaw · 27/05/2020 07:55

@Morpho123 I have no experience with cyclogest. What do they do? My flushes have stopped now. Thank goodness. OPK still completely negative- no feint line. Last month I had more of a feint line earlier and I ovulated earlier with the clomid so I don't think it has had any effect on me this month.

My friend has not had baby yet. Section planned for this afternoon as her labour isn't coming on naturally and she was in too much pain with the induction to proceed. I feel so relieved it is nearly over for her. I think worrying about her along with pain of falling down the stairs has kept me from sleeping the last few days and I keep bursting into tears. My husband thinks I am crazy.x

Morpho123 · 27/05/2020 12:10

@Chochaw cyclogest is a progesterone pessarie, so just supports the lining because I spot 5-7 days before AF, they want me to take them just in case, it’s only one a day at night but Iv heard horror stories about what comes back out 😂

You still have time for Opks as you thought you would ovulate Sunday, so keep testing, I’m sure it will be positive by Friday/Saturday. Weirdly when I bbt I found that I’d get a positive opk and temp rise the next day, so I think I ovulate pretty much straight after a positive. I haven’t done bbt in a while because I think clomid messes it up because of the hot flushes!

Your poor friend, fingers crossed baby is here safely today. How are you actually feeling within yourself, it’s okay to be sad for yourself too, you can be happy for someone but sad for yourself. We’re all here for you xxxx

willithappen · 27/05/2020 15:37

Hey guys - any of you on the NHS list know how long it took for your referral letter to come through confirming you are now on the list?

Think I'm being impatient but had our appointment 18th May and don't think I will settle knowing we are at least on the list until I get that letter through confirming. I'm worried they mess up the paperwork or something

Chochaw · 27/05/2020 17:13

@willithappen I don't have experience of this but

Chochaw · 27/05/2020 17:26

I would wait 3 weeks and then follow up with a phone call just to check. Post is delayed just now so it might be a bit longer.

@Morpho123 🤞for you.

My friend had the baby at 2.30 this afternoon.boy mum and baby are safe. A baby boy at 7lb9. I can relax now I know they are both safe. I'm actually ok with this baby. Although it wasn't planned I think they will make great parents and it is what they needed. I'm looking forward to seeing her baby and my daughter growing up together.x

Positivity20 · 27/05/2020 18:44

@willithappen Hello! Do you mean a referral letter to say you’re officially on the list for treatment or to be referred from your Doc to a fertility clinic? have you had a pre-treatment consultation?

We found out we need ICSI via telephone consultation with our NHS fertility centre doctor mid-May, so I now have a waiting list proforma form with questions to check eligibility for funding - have you done that yet? Next steps for us is a pre-treatment consultation and they said there is a backlog so call up mid June and make an appointment which should be end of July / beginning of Aug.

Wishing all you ladies lots of luck I’ve been following the thread waiting for our results as we got tested in Feb then everything went quiet in lockdown x

willithappen · 27/05/2020 18:50

@Positivity20 just the one to say we are on the list, not the top of the list one

I think I have just read so many horror stories about people thinking they were on the list but hadn't actually been the whole time

Positivity20 · 27/05/2020 19:06

@willithappen P.S I haven’t had a letter yet to say I’m on a list, but maybe I will after the pre-treatment consultation, I’m handing the funding eligibility form in on Friday so I’ll ask x

Morpho123 · 27/05/2020 21:17

Oh girls Jesus Christ, today is THE DAY, and what always happens on THE DAY. He struggles to do it 😭 we tried and failed earlier and I felt deflated, Iv gone through clomid and a trigger injection and scans to get this far... then he can’t do that one thing.
I composed myself and didn’t get stressed I brushed it off. And then tonight I gave him a nice massage as his been working so hard recently and he did it! Thank the Lord! 😂
The pressure gets too much for him when he knows it’s the time, so normally I wouldn’t tell him but obviously with the injection he knew.

Hi @Positivity20 lovely to meet you! Can I ask what your male factor is and why you need ICSI? I hope the list goes quick for you and you get funding! And you @willithappen I’d give it a few weeks and chase up, I totally get where you are coming from, Iv heard loads of people find out when they chase that the clinic ‘forgot’, so frustrating! Xx

Chochaw · 27/05/2020 21:55

@morpho123 oh dear. I would be frustrated too.

I feel like that today. We have went off the track of egg meets sperm approach because it is too bloody difficult. We were due to DTD Monday but I was too sore from my fall, yesterday he fell asleep while I was showering and today he went and played golf for hours, ate dinner then told me that a bloody poker game with his pals was about to start so he wont be in bed till middle of the night. I know OPK still negative but I feel like he doesn't care. What's the point in me taking the clomid if we don' t DTD. I think it might be easier if I buy a DIY IUI and tell him to leave his sample to the side for me when he can fit it into his busy schedule. X

Morpho123 · 27/05/2020 22:01

@chochaw I totally relate to this, it’s so difficult because we know we need to dtd and yet they don’t feel like it sometimes, but it’s even worse when we have a medicated cycle. I mean we pay £500 this month for this medicated cycle, I don’t want to waste it! We don’t do tomorrow I think we have covered it yesterday and today but I can’t help but worry all the time!

They say with trigger you ovulate 24-36 hours after. I took it at midday yesterday so 36 hours in midnight tonight, so we have sperm in there waiting now. I was stressing so much. Do you think that’s enough? He can’t do tomorrow again!

Lord give us strength! Don’t worry too much right now, maybe try tomorrow if you can? And then when you get a positive opk, I feel like if we do it too much before, he doesn’t want to when I need it, so I try and hold out now! Xx

Chochaw · 27/05/2020 22:08

@moepho123.

We will try tomorrow and then probably Saturday/ Sunday/positive OPK.

I would say if it's in there, it is ready to go. Try again maybe Friday morning for luck.x

Positivity20 · 27/05/2020 22:25

@Morpho123 I totally sympathise with the pressure to perform, I try not to tell him too each month but when we’re knackered from work and I initiate sex on a Monday night then it’s so obvious to him and it all goes down hill from there! If only ovulation could land on a lazy Sat and Sunday morning every month! That’s been a real struggle for us! Then when it “doesn’t matter” and it’s just for fun we hit the jackpot!

We’ve been trying for a year and a half (I’ve just turned 35) and we got referred from my Doctor to a fertility clinic in Jan. I had my bloods and a scan and all came back ok. I’m pretty regular and I get a smiley face every month on OPKs so I hoped my test would be alright, however he’s had 2 SAs and very very low sperm count so ICSI is our only option really so they select the sperm and place it in the egg. The Dr said our chances of conceiving naturally are unlikely. At first I was absolutely gutted and cried my eyes out but now I’m just glad we have answers and some sort of path! I need to do more research now we know and start getting things in order.

It’s all a mine field isn’t it I keep googling a million things! X
