Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?

Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

I'm from Scotland but a bit behind on your progress so far

I've just started listening to BFN so I'm on episode 5 of the day after you posted saying. Such a good listen!

Morpho123 · 20/05/2020 20:59

I’m from Essex, so opposite end to you.
I listened to the BFN this week, I’m not sure who you would contact @Chochaw I think you would need to find a clinic that is working and speak directly with them, they may be able to request information?
Iv listened to the whole bfn since we started trying, I learnt so much from it!
I’m CD6 today, scan at clinic Friday on CD8 and then another scan on Tuesday on CD12 for trigger injection hopefully!

Has anyone had a trigger? What’s the deal with dtd? Do you do everyday after trigger? I think you ovulate 24-36 hours after injection xx

Chochaw · 20/05/2020 22:29

@Morpho123 I had ovidrel trigger for our IUIs. I honestly can't remember if I took it at 12 hours or 36 hours before the procedure. I remember procedure was 11 am so I had to stay up and take it at 11pm. It is easy to do just a quick injection in your stomach. Needle is very fine. After IUI happened we were told to have as much sex as possible. Ask on Friday how you are progressing, how many follicles you have, what size are they measuring, how long should your DH abstain before you take trigger. They usually like 2/3 follicles between 14 and 20 in size when they tell you to take the trigger. My clinic wouldn't let us do trigger if we had more than 3 follicles due to risk of multiples but if that happened to me I would try anyway without the injection. X

@willithappen if I am able to find anymore information about Scotland I'll let you know. I contacted BFN and they are unsure because it is Scotland. She recommended I contact HFEA so I'll try that tomorrow and maybe give the fertility network a phone too.x

Morpho123 · 21/05/2020 09:53

Did anyone watch alex Jones- fertility and me last night on sky W? I’m watching it now and it’s so interesting!
If I get too many follicles I’ll still be trying without the injection. Fingers crossed I get 2-3 and no more so they can inject!
Cd7 today, I guess I should start dtd lol! Iv been lazy 😂 xx

Chochaw · 21/05/2020 22:15

@Morpho123 Good luck tomorrow at scan. Let us now how you get on. I was supposed to DTD to say but I was too tired from being up all night with flushes. I'll force myself in the morning. OPK said clear negative today anyway. x

Morpho123 · 22/05/2020 10:43

Hi girls, first scan not too good, I’m so frustrated. I have one follicle at 13mm but I think that could be the cyst from last month, a couple of other little follicles but she didn’t give sizes
My lining is really thin at 4.6mm.
She thinks the clomid has thinned it therefore This cycle may not go ahead and next month I’d need injectable ovulation stimulation.

Next scan is Tuesday AM. Now how do I thicken my lining in 3 days please- asking for a friend 😂🤷🏽‍♀️ Xx

Saski87 · 22/05/2020 12:18

Sorry to hear that @Morpho123 afraid I can’t offer any advice but will cross my fingers it resolved and you still get to go ahead this month x

Chochaw · 22/05/2020 12:36

Aw @morpho123 sorry to hear this. Don't lose hope. You are still early in cycle so time for follicles to grow. Something is telling me that pomegranate juice is supposed time help with lining. I think I have tried every food suggestion over the years 🤣. X

Morpho123 · 22/05/2020 13:06

@chochaw I have literally just gone to Tesco and bought 2x Pom juice. I’ll have half a bottle (360ml) a day. We’re gonna be out walking/ running tonight to increase blood flow. At least then I know I tried, and if that doesn’t work then they will give me different meds next month 🤷🏽‍♀️ So frustrating, I always said I thought my lining was thin but when I went for tests it was 10.4mm before my period so they said it wasn’t thin. And now it is 😭 oh well, fingers crossed for Tuesday!
The hot flushes were mental last night I had about 2 hours sleep xx

Chochaw · 22/05/2020 19:23

@Morpho123 i am keeping everying crossed for you. I had my gp call today and she can't give me clomid. She said a he would email my consultant and see if they recommend it. She said she would find out for definite when clinic is opening because of the new guidance published yesterday suggests it might be able to open from next week in Scotland but it only specifically mentions IVF. She is also going to check of lab is able to do another SA for DH.x

Morpho123 · 22/05/2020 19:42

@chochaw that’s frustrating, but fingers crossed your consultant will let you have it.
I’m having a real down day, like Iv been screaming about my lining being so thin and now it is and I don’t know what to do 😂
We have just been for an hours fast walk up hills. I’m giving it my all but I’m not feeling hopeful anymore. Especially with one follicle and I think that’s my cyst. This isn’t my month at all 😭 xx

Morpho123 · 22/05/2020 19:42

Sorry I’m a Debbie downer today, I got too hopeful lol x

Chochaw · 22/05/2020 20:28

@morpho123. I really understand how you are feeling. I was surprised they let you go ahead and start taking clomid when you had the cyst from last cycle. If this one isn't your month then next month might be. That's how it worked for me. Failed IUI, 2 months off, successful IUI. You are eoutring everything you can into it. Remember it is not your fault! You have tried everything and sometimes our body just doesn't so what you want/expect. It is still pretty early in your cycle. When are you supposed to ovulate? My app says not till 31st for me so that's over a week of growing to do. They say follicles grow 2-3mm a day so they could be big by then. Feel free to not answer this. I'm curious about costs for monitored ovulation. Is it a package for whole cycle or do you need to pay for scans individually? If you don't trigger does that count as a cycle.x

Morpho123 · 22/05/2020 21:35

They measured the cyst last month and said it was 14mm so small enough to go on its own, but the fact it’s the right side with the follicle at 13mm today, I actually just have a feeling it’s the cyst. I had a couple of the left ovary but small- she didn’t say size.
It is frustrating but I’ll do what I can. I go back Tuesday with is CD12, which they would want to trigger so I Ovulate CD14. So I have time for the lining still to grow. I did some googling about getting blood to uterus, don’t know why I didn’t think of it.... orgasm!

It cost me £500 per cycle, that includes all scans and drugs. I think if it doesn’t work it’s still classed as a cycle as it’s a bit of trial and error how my body will respond. We said we would do this max 4 times for £2000. Before moving onto ivf. I will still hopefully have a free cycle on nhs too, once they open back up 🤞🏽 My apps says I’ll ovulate 28th xxx

Chochaw · 23/05/2020 09:02

@Morpho123 do they need to trigger if your follicles are not ready yet? Can you not wait another couple of days and trigger to give them a chance to grow? I have a slightly longer cycle than you. I normally don't ovulate to CD17/18. I hope the flushes are settling for you. I have only had a couple at night the last 2 days. Thanks for that info. I was just curious how it worked for OI. It is so hard to stay positive when you get bad news but don't rule this cycle out yet. Miracles do happen. I had high hopes 1st IUI and everything was invested in it but it failed. I was heartbroken. 2nd time all statistics looked bad- less follicles, 75% lower sperm count, stressed due to bereavement and it worked.

I had such a vivid dream last night about my 2nd child's christening day. I can remember every detail but I don't know if it was a boy or girl. I am taking this as confirmation I will have a baby in the future.x

Morpho123 · 23/05/2020 09:47

@chochaw I don’t think they will trigger Tuesday if they aren’t ready, I assume they will call me back Wednesday/Thursday. I just hope I don’t ovulate on my own before then! You are right, miracles do happen! I’m just going to take nice walks this weekend and see what happens 🤞🏽

No flushes last night I’m so glad it’s cooled down a bit!

That’s a lovely dream, you will get there, just annoyingly these things take time don’t they. Don’t give up xxx

Let’s try and keep positive this weekend, I’m struggling big time though, I think I had too much invested in this being it xx

Narwhal88 · 23/05/2020 10:57

@Morpho123 fingers crossed for you your lining thickens! But don't be too disheartened if it doesn't, things vary every cycle and it will hopefully be thick enough next time 🙂 it's so frustrating though isn't it?! I just think that even for couples with nothing wrong it can still take months of trying and there's still only like 30% chance of conception each month so we shouldn't be surprised if something doesn't work first time, just need to pick yourself up and try again! Easier said than done though I know!

@Chochaw sounds like a lovely dream and I'm sure you will get your 2nd baby one day, sounds like you are quite positive at the moment which is good! Your doctor sounds really proactive! Hope you get good news soon regarding your clinic opening!

Got my AMH and FSH results today and everything is normal and I actually have higher than average AMH for my age. Made me feel a lot better that hopefully there aren't any issues with my and it's just the sperm!

Have a lovely bank holiday week ladies x

Chochaw · 24/05/2020 15:07

@narwhal88 that is great news. Has your husband had his SA?

We DTD last night and I definitely feel that the cough bottle/omega 3 supplement are definitely having a positive affect. I notice it when going to the bathroom too. I an delighted as this has always been a but of an issue and doctor described me as having a hostile environment for sperm before 🤣. Still having a couple of flushes but much less bloating this month.

My best friend is in labour just now. I have been in tears about 5 times in last few days. She didn't really want her pregnancy at the beginning but is now excited. She's quite poorly with preeclampsia. I feel as if I'm feeling every emotion alongside her as I was the same at end of my pregnancy and it took me having a seizure and nearly dying for doctors to intervene. I just hope her and the baby are OK.x

Narwhal88 · 24/05/2020 17:47

@Chochaw no he's not had his 2nd SA yet as the hospital aren't doing them at the moment, hopefully restarting 22nd June apparently. I just took some cough syrup, how much do you take? It's so disgusting 😩 I'm also taking omega 3 with primrose. I have a bit of a dryness issue as well.
I really hope all is well with your best friend and baby 🤞🏼 I understand your tears though, it's so hard when other people get what you desperately want, even if you are happy for them, you are sad, angry and frustrated for yourself. Xx

Chochaw · 24/05/2020 17:51

I take 10ml in the morning each day and then 10 ml a couple of hours before we DTD. X

CocoaTeaandGin · 25/05/2020 10:26

Hello! Sorry, I know I'm late to this thread!
I'm 33 and we've been TTC for 3 years. I was on the Conception boards for about 18months under a different username and had to come off for my own sanity. Now looking for a bit of support over on this side!

It's taken oven a year for my partner to agree to testing as he's convinced it's him and doesn't want to know. He sent his sample just before COVID-19 and will likely have to do it again. My bloods have all come back ok. Does anyone have any recommendations for supplements or anything else we can try while we wait for everything to reopen?

Chochaw · 25/05/2020 11:38

Welcome @CocoaTeaandGin.

High dose of vitamin D is recommended for both. No more than 600mg of folic acid, COQ10 for both you and partner, I take omega 3 supplement, 1000mg of vitamin c and pregnacare multivitamin for both of us.x

Morpho123 · 25/05/2020 11:54

@CocoaTeaandGin hi Hun, I posted a list of vitamins my husband took and that Improved his sperm, it’s probably a page or two back!

@chochaw how you getting on Hun? I have my follicle tracking scan tomorrow and possibly trigger. I’m hoping my lining has thicken, Iv drank so much Pom juice 😂🤷🏽‍♀️ Also been moving about a lot more and painting fences so hopefully getting the blood moving about!

Hope everyone is having a lovely bank holiday! Xx

Morpho123 · 25/05/2020 15:39

Hi girls I need a bit of advice, I’m CD11 today and Iv had loads of ewcm, I’m going in for scan tomorrow and trigger 🤞🏽 But could I be ovulating early!? X

CocoaTeaandGin · 25/05/2020 15:40

Thank you so much @Chochawg and @Morpho123! I've just put all of your links in my Amazon basket!

I have a lot of catching up to do! Have a lovely bank holiday ❤
