Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?

Hi all,

Been ttc (unsuccessfully!) for over a year and just found out there's a problem with DH sperm (low mobility and zero normal forms), so awaiting referral to fertility clinic to seek further help/advice.

Just wondered if there's anyone else in a similar situation about to embark on this journey too?

Also similar success stories welcome :) x

@Sshsecretenclosed
During our 1st appointment we filled lots of forms and went through them with consultant. They took details of cycles, family history and blood tests we had done before. Then they made us appointments for more investigations- bloods, hsg, ultrasound. It took about an hour but our letter said to leave 2 hours free. Good luck. How long have you been trying and do you have any known issues?x

Sshsecretenclosed · 07/03/2020 06:12

Thank you @Chochaw Was theee then a long wait for the investigative appointments?
It all feels like such a wait!

Chochaw · 07/03/2020 08:37

I was seen in early January for 1st consultation. Had ultrasound and bloods a couple of weeks later and HSG and of Marcg. At HSG we got results and offered treatment. Started treatment start of June. It is horrible waiting but they say 80% get pregnant naturally within 1st year and 95% of people get pregnant within 2 years so they don't want to intervene too early.x

iRawra · 07/03/2020 11:23

@Chochaw I suppose that makes sense. I got my letter through from the clinic to fill in details of me and DH and then once they receive that we will get sent another letter with an appointment on :)

AF came today finally on CD55... Do you all count first light day as CD1 or day after that when it's full flow as CD1?

Chochaw · 07/03/2020 11:51

I count first day of light as CD1 and when I had treatment they got me in day 2/3 to start and it is heavier.x

iRawra · 07/03/2020 19:40

@Chochaw thank you for answering. I've popped today in my app as CD1 and it has ramped up to a normal flow anyway. Last cycle I had a couple of spotting days beforehand so I didn't put those as AF.

Hello ladies,
Happy Sunday Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
It has been a tough week. My period was 3 days late, I had high hopes, did a few tests, it was bfn. :( Got my period yesterday! So definitely IUI treatment in April.
@Chochaw I've never try the cough bottle method, I will definitely give it a go, any brand, in particular, you would recommend?
xx

Limeflower2 · 08/03/2020 18:43

Forgot to mention, I was in Boots, and came across "Ferti•Lily Conception Cup", have anyone heard of it? Its around £32, I wouldn't mind trying it before IUI/IVF.

Chochaw · 08/03/2020 20:15

@Limeflower2 any cough bottle that has Guaifenesin will do. I used to go round all the chemists in my town because they stopped selling me it. It thins cervical mucus and makes it easier for sperm to swim.

I've never heard of that cup. But I had a search there and it has really good reviews. I wonder if it works the same as a period cup? I had a friend that used one of those and she could feel the suction when trying to remove it and it felt like a Hoover sucking her insides out.

I got my monthly supply of pregnancy tests delivered today. It's sad but every month I live in hope and always end up testing as I have phantom pregnancy symptoms then period eventually shows.

Hi everyone!

We have our first appointment at subfertility (nhs) on 17th March! We’re so nervous, feel like we’ve waited forever for this! We already know ivf is our only option due to tubal problem (I also only have the 1). We’ve already paid privately to see the consultant who put us at ease.

One thing that’s got me worried is my bmi! I’ve lost 1 stone 6.5lbs in 8 weeks and I’m 3lbs off having a bmi of 29.9 (which I know I need)!

I’m really hoping I lose it as I can’t bare to wait another 7 weeks for an appointment.

Also does anyone know how quickly I may get my hycosy test done? I already know I need one just to see if I have fluid in my tube. Hoping I get the hycosy quickly or I may pay privately for it!

We will be nhs funded!

willithappen · 08/03/2020 22:28

@thirteen92
I'm at Aberdeen and was about a month from my appointment where they said HyCoSy to having the test done. Think it will be different at different places though

Sshsecretenclosed · 09/03/2020 17:51

My first apt is May. Really didn't appreciate appointment letter stating the clinic is Infertility gynaecology. So now have to have a very awkward first convo with employed who require the evidence.

Limeflower2 · 09/03/2020 20:44

Hi @Chochaw, how mamy days do I need to take the cough medicine for? Do you take them like you really have a cough?
I still have a few pregnancy tests left. I need to order more. I hope one of us will have some good news soon!
I'm so tempted to get the cup, but I'm just worry that I won't able to push it as far as it needs to be. And I heard someone actually used the period cup to stop the sperm coming out and fell pregnant. Would you advise if I use one of these cup right after IUI procedure?

@thirteen92 I paid for my HyCoSy, and I got the appointment within a week.

Chochaw · 09/03/2020 20:45

@Sshsecretenclosed could you phone up and ask for them to issue another letter which states just appointment time and not department. Could you photocopy with a post it note over department and if employer questions it just say it is private and you will let them know if it affects your work.

thirteen92 · 09/03/2020 20:47

@Limeflower2 did you? Is it around £500 for a hycosy? Husband has said if they say I’m going to be waiting 3 months or more then we’ll pay for it!

Lammoshay · 09/03/2020 23:17

Hi ladies
Little update my end- hubby had his SA and all came back good- results below so now have been referred to wirral fertility so just wanting for a letter x

Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?
Lammoshay · 09/03/2020 23:18

Oh except morphology only 2.25 bit doc not worried as his other levels were good x

Limeflower2 · 10/03/2020 10:02

@thirteen92 I paid around £400. My consultant won't see me for a 2nd consultation until I had my HSG result. I didn't want any delay, and I was lucky enough to get it so quickly. And also it has be done between day 6 - day 15 of your cycle.

Morpho123 · 10/03/2020 12:08

hi All, I hope you are well!
can I ask why you are paying for a hycosy? is it so you get it sooner?
I had mine with the NHS and they booked it in really quick, I just had to wait for my next cycle to start but it was around 3 weeks later I had the test? I didn't even realise you could pay for it!

@Lammoshay good news about your husbands SA results! the doctors always seem to say if other parameters are good, then morphology doesn't matter, however doesn't seem to be the case with me! morphology is the only thing below in our results! im hoping there will be a success story on this thread with it soon!

so where am I currently at.....
today is ovulation day (I think), I keep getting highs on ovulation strips, I had a peak yesterday lunchtime, then low evening and again high this morning. im taking today as peak (im CD15) so sounds about right to me! iv managed to cover most basis, Saturday, yesterday and this morning - only sunday was missed as I wasn't feeling great. but that's okay! my husband has been on vitamins for 4ish months now, so im hoping there will be an improvement, I mean im staying positive but im not expecting miracles, I feel like it wont happen for us naturally but ill give it a good shot!

so ill be entering the dreaded tww, I called my doctors the other day, because I STILL have no results of my HSG, Day 3 bloods and ultrasound - I had it around 4/5 weeks ago now! but he said it looks like I can start clomid on my next cycle. so by that I can only assume my results came back fine? id appreciate some info at least lol!
im going to request copies of results and take them to a private ivf clinic next month! xxx

willithappen · 10/03/2020 13:54

@morpho123 how annoying they won't give results back yet! I got mine for HyCoSy on the spot!
Also wondering if the HyCoSy messed up my ovulation and my cycle. Did that happen to you after HSG? I'm due on today but no sign of it yet (I did a FRER yesterday and BFN so not holding hopes of anything and more just the HyCoSy has knocked it off).

I asked my doc about clomid but he told me no because he is sure I am 'likely ovulating' due to my levels but they haven't confirmed it and won't give me clomid due to risk of multiples/says I don't need it. Looking at my charts I think I ovulate CD15 actually which would have made my day 21 bloods a day early so maybe levels are high (I was just shy of 30 when I got tested).

willithappen · 10/03/2020 13:55

Also read the HyCoSy is meant to give increased fertility for three months after it so that's leading me into false hope I think (I'm the same as you, convinced the morphology is an issue). I was CD15 when I had the test, DTD that afternoon after it to try and catch any ovulation if there was but wondering if the test knocked the wee egg out the way or something haha

Morpho123 · 10/03/2020 14:31

@willithappen I normally ovulate CD13 so I think it knocked my ovulation by a couple of days if I’m honest.
I think we’re the same, my results were 29 on day 21 bloods and they like them to be 30, which is why they are giving me clomid- even though I know I ovulate on my own they didn’t seem concerned about multiples and I’m fine with twins lol.
I also heard about increased chances after hsg, it didn’t happen for me last month though! So maybe this month it will? Who knows, I’m convinced they down play morphology and it’s more important than they make out! I’m dreading this tww!
Xx

willithappen · 10/03/2020 17:39

Ah never mind the witch just arrived haha

Hopefully we can get a morphology success story from here soon! Wishing you all the success in the World @Morpho123

Limeflower2 · 10/03/2020 20:53

Good evening ladies,

@Morpho123, there is no funding for IUI/IVF in my area, so I have to go private. Due to my age, my consultant suggested I get things moving as quickly as possible. BTW, I got my result on the spot with HSG and scanning too.
@willithappen, I also DTD after HSG, and my period was 2 days late. I think HSG has an effect on ovulation.xx

iRawra · 10/03/2020 21:09

@Morpho123 I am also hoping for a morphology success story soon too! Got the full analysis back from DH doctor now and literally everything else is perfect other than morphology like we knew already, but now we know the actual figures. Does anyone know what they are referring to when they say 'Cells'?

Anyone else awaiting fertility referral?
