Anyone doing ivf at 40+

We're considering doing a couple more rounds of ivf at 40.5 years old. We have 2 children already but still feel someone is missing.

Is anyone else starting or already having treatment at 40+ and would like to share the journey?

Hello! Yes am triggering at 8 30pm. Have three good ones and now a TON of smaller ones (like 9 overall) around the 10-11-12 Mark, so hoping some of them come through. What an odd cycle

Oooo exciting !! I think I’m about the same with three good and then have three smaller. Amazing you got 9 smaller ones , where did they all gone from lol !

We are indeed! And yes how odd about the extra follicles (6 on top of the three big ones). Doc was tempted to sacrifice the lead (now 22mm) and see if they caught up but in the end decided not to. I am not sure she made the right call (and presumably will never know)...

Hopefully , the quality one is in the lead and nice and matured ! Perhaps stinking for too much longer wouldn’t have been a good idea . Hopefully , they are the experts and make the right judgement call . My leads are only 19mm so thought they might give another day but they’ve decided not too. They said they wanted to see my blood result and that decided it but I don’t know what the bloods would have told them?? I’m still a bit clueless with this x

If they leave for too long trying to get smaller ones to catch up
The other ones may be too big

@Blondeshavemorefun do you know what they see on the blood test ? I had a scan in the pm but she said the blood test would indicate today or tomorrow for the trigger . I should really have asked more questions ! X

@Sunshinelove8 they look at the estrogen levels on the blood test. Each mature follicle raises the estrogen level by a certain amount so they know when you're good to go.

Ah @lucieloos thanks 🙏 just did trigger shot and tomorrow is first morning I don’t have to wake at 5am for cetrotide whoop ! Could sleep for a week ! Night night xx

I don’t R.E.M. having blood tests. Once started the drugs

They just did scans eveey 2/3 days
But this was 4yrs ago and all clinics do things diff

I had a decent rest , I got up at 6 am and then went back after 7 for a few more hours , was exhausted. Having dreams about a donor asking for her eggs back :/ I hope I get to use my own although I know with my stats it’s very slim chance . Worried I’ll have no eggs on follicles tomorrow. Worry worry x

For us that was the easy bit. Madrid 1.5hrs tho I’ve said before don’t down reg Oct nov or flying out like we did 28 dec and back again 3 jan

Flights were silly money as Xmas think was £800

But 4&5 cycles in feb and July were £150 for us both

Hello all from Barcelona! D’you know - it is actually quite nice to be here - I will try to turn this into an enjoyable weekend. How was your time in Madrid @Blondeshavemorefun? And I know @Sunshinelove8 - I am convinced I will have no mature eggs and everything will either be over or under cooked. Had nightmares last week. Everything crossed for both of us tomorrow!

All done here. The lead follicle was apparently empty, they said they collected three good ones. I am a bit disappointed as it feels very low compared to last couple of cycles where we ended up with 4 day 3 embryos.

Hi @anxiousbuthopeful - it's so hard not to focus so much on the numbers isn't it... I am terrible for it each time. BUT they have said you have three good ones, so you are absolutely still in play! I'm assuming you are staying in Barcelona for the transfer now? Got everything crossed for you.
