Infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland

Just thought I'd start a thread for those who are undergoing infertility investigations/IVF in Scotland because it seems as though it can vary from the rest of the UK.

DH and I have been TTC since June 2018. Started investigations around July 2019. I have a large ovarian cyst which will be removed, hopefully after Christmas. Getting a laparoscopy and dye to check tubes too. I have very regular periods and I am ovulating. DH has a low sperm count, but the ones he has are good quality. Still awaiting results from ultrasounds, genetic tests etc so still feel like we're at the beginning of our journey. This is our first time TTC and we've not had a hint of a BFP.

Anyone else?

Yeah, it's a 40 minute drive so at least that saves that. I just expected more though, my own fault I guess!

Seems like the nurses appointment is when I will get more.

Pumpkinspice77 · 26/11/2020 18:34

Hey @willithappen we briefly chatted a while ago on a thread I put up. Sorry to hear your appointment wasn’t what you expected. What are the blood tests you are having on Monday? Have you already had your AMH test done? I’m down in Dundee and seems to be the opposite there, nurse did consent forms, blood tests etc but it’s the doctor who’ll explain our protocol.

willithappen · 26/11/2020 22:24

@Pumpkinspice77 good to hear from you again!

I believe the blood tests are the HIV, Hep C ones etc. I honestly have no idea though! :(

Yeah he just said I would get appointment to go over drugs with a nurse so I'm guessing they will tell me dates etc.
Feeling so deflated now and questioning everything

itsmschanandlerbong · 30/11/2020 19:42

Hi everyone, sorry for the abscence, been trying to keep my mind off of things. Hope you're all well.

@willithappen that sounds so disappointing, it's so much harder with covid and not having the same face to face appointments. It sounds positive that you're signing consents so you must be further up the waiting list than what you thought. What hospital are you with again? Did they say when you would get your nurses apt?

@pixelflower good luck with your appointment next week!

Hello @Thornberry88 👋 are you any further forward with the tests you needed done?

We are now about a year and a half into this and it just feels like our life is on hold, forever waiting. Was referred to monklands last summer, then eventually got an appointment with GRI in February. Had to repeat tests and then appointments cancelled. Finally added to the waiting list in June, but they said it was looking like 1 year wait.

Thornberry88 · 30/11/2020 19:50

@itsmschanandlerbong HI Smile I've had all my tests now which came back ok. They prescribed me letrozole to take 5mg cycle day 2 to cycle day 6. The thing is I always get peaks on clear blue ovulation tests so I'm not so sure I don't ovulate but I know they're not hundred percent. The tablets have made me ovulate (according to clear blue on) cd11 which I think is way too early. Has anyone else been on this? How are you getting on? I think lock down is making everything worse. It's hard not to Google anything

itsmschanandlerbong · 30/11/2020 20:01

@Thornberry88 do you have PCOS? Sorry, I don't have any experience I can share with this.

Thornberry88 · 30/11/2020 20:43

@itsmschanandlerbong no I don't have anything like that. I have normal periods and they've confirmed I don't have it

willithappen · 30/11/2020 21:16

@itsmschanandlerbong
I'm Aberdeen :) got letter through today for nurses appointment on 8th Dec so not too long to wait!
Had my blood tests today also (didn't faint so huge win!)

Thornberry88 · 30/11/2020 22:00

@Pumpkinspice77 Im being seen in Dundee too

Scirocco · 02/12/2020 20:56

Has anyone received any advice from fertility services about the covid vaccine yet?

willithappen · 02/12/2020 21:54

@Scirocco a post went out saying they are not advising pregnant women or anyone planning to get pregnant within next three months or so to get one

pixelflower · 03/12/2020 12:04

Just have to say Bloody Covid!

Despite that just finished our video appointment signing the consent forms. I'd missed your post @willithappen and didn't realise you'd had a letter ( so exciting! ) and came on to say what we were told. Dr said nurse will be in touch the start of January about starting medication and to watch my weight because can't go ahead if my BMI is too high. Don't want to encourage you to get your hopes up and be disappointed again but sounds like you're very close 😮😍

@itsmschanandlerbong that's awful timing. The waiting is soul destroying, wish none of us were having to do it ☹️

@Thornberry88 I'm not sure about any meds for ovulation but fingers crossed that it works for you 🤞🤞🤞

Scirocco · 03/12/2020 12:15

Thanks @willithappen - that's going to be fun explaining to my bosses...

itsmschanandlerbong · 03/12/2020 16:50

@willithappen that's fantastic, best of luck for Tuesday!

willithappen · 03/12/2020 18:32

@pixelflower thanks for the update!

I was also told by doctor that it would be after Christmas but then got the letter through for Tuesday appointment. I'm thinking they'll go through it and based off my periods it probably will be January. You are Aberdeen too aren't you?
I found another user on here who is Aberdeen and is one week ahead of me currently, so the three of us are quite close together!

Did you get much more info out the consent form signing?

Super excited for Tuesday!

theotherfossilsister · 04/12/2020 16:01

Hello, just jumping on as we were referred at the end of September (Edinburgh) and we're yet to hear anything.

I had a private hycosy which diagnosed a polyp so also waiting to have that out. DP also has low morphology and motility and concentration.

Anyone got any idea when we will get our letter please?

good luck all

willithappen · 04/12/2020 18:28

@theotherfossilsister
I'm not 100% sure on Edinburgh but I'm with Aberdeen and just checked their website which says the waiting time for NHS funded IVF has been reduced to 3-4 months and if you are referred in Dec you will get an appointment for March/April and be able to start treatment as soon as you wish.

pixelflower · 04/12/2020 21:27

@Scirocco It's a bit awkward isn't it. Everyone at work is discussing if they'll take the vaccine and kinda keeping quiet about it.

@willithappen Didn't get much, but more than I'd expected from what you'd said. Maybe I felt.like that cause my expectations were low. Nice knowing there are others in Aberdeen as everywhere seems to be different. I'm excited for you!

willithappen · 04/12/2020 21:42

@pixelflower it's very exciting getting to talk to others at the same clinic! I'll be sure to let you know how things go after my Tuesday appointment. Let me know if yours pops in sooner. Did you see on their website they are saying it's a 3-4 month wait for those being referred now. If only it was that short of a wait we had! Haha

pixelflower · 04/12/2020 21:51

I saw that! All feeling a bit more real now! I booked my blood test today but it's not till the 16th. I don't think that'll affect anything though as looks like it's just needed for storage purposes.

Scirocco · 05/12/2020 14:56

@pixelflower and to add to the awkwardness, I'm part of the team organising vaccinating our service...

pixelflower · 05/12/2020 17:26

@Scirocco that's definitely awkward. Just another thing to make this difficult.

@willithappen I don't know how but I've just got a letter in for an appointment on Monday 😶 Assume there's been a cancellation since you got yours in. Feel a bit weird now cause feel like I'm jumping the queue, and feel more anxious cause thought I'd know how yours went before I even got the appointment 😶
Not even sure if we both need to attend cause there's no chance he can at such short notice 🤷🏼

willithappen · 05/12/2020 17:37

@pixelflower oh wow that's nice and quick! Something seems to have changed with them and they have lots of time now!
Sorry I'm not gonna be able to help ease things for before you manage yours! Mines Tuesday at 9am so not too far behind you!
Keep me updated with what they say! :)

I'm thinking they will tell me to call on my January period which is 11th Jan looking. Don't worry about 'jumping the que' it all depends so highly on when our periods happen and things can change at any time. I'm just really happy to be able to talk with someone at the same clinic and same part of their journey as me.

Ahhh imagine we end up in tww together! Unlikely due to dates I know, but still!

pixelflower · 05/12/2020 17:45

I have seen jobs advertised there recently ( someone actually pointed one out to me and obviously couldn't explain it was a bit too close to home to apply for) so maybe they're staffing is better.
We could be close for the tww too 😶 I'm apparently due period the 7th of January, but was a few days late last month so if it's the same this month...
I think I'd be happier for you getting your positive than anyone I actually know right now 😂

willithappen · 05/12/2020 18:06

@pixelflower eeee that's not far off at all!

Omg reading you say that made this all seem a lot more real than I have been letting myself think! I have been trying to take things step by step and not let myself get ahead of myself

I just have a feeling the first one won't work. As we are unexplained I think they will try us with standard stuff and it won't work but it will highlight what our problem is.
