Day 1 egg collection results - REALLY need your support

Hi guys,

We have received today the first results from the clinic regarding the egg collection we did yesterday morning, and it doesnt seems very encouraging, so we would really like your input as we do not know what to make of the results :/

Number of embryos: 6 (1x2PN, 1x1PN, 3x0/1, 1x2)

As we understood, only 1 embryo is fertilised until this point (24 hours after the egg collection) so we would really like to know if there is a chance that others have hope as well?

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Hiya!

I’m not sure what the numbers are about, from my experience every clinic rates eggs and embryos their own way so there is no universal ‘this is good, this is bad’ sort of scale.

I’m probably being daft but I don’t understand about only one being fertilised but you having 6 embryos - as far as I understand an unfertilised embryo is just an egg?

LillyLeaf · 20/09/2019 14:53

I don't really understand your results, our clinic just tells us the day after ec how many have fertilized, no grades. Then an update on development on day 3 and 5. Maybe get them to call you back and clarify.

Alon789 · 20/09/2019 15:31

Thank you so much for your reply, you got me and my partner slightly more relaxed. We struggle exactly with the same question as it is written in the system - Number of suitable embryos = 6 - and then their grading. So I guess it means that there are 6 fertilised embryos for use?

@Eggcellent29 - We did our IVF at the Reprofit clinic in Brno, so I guess you are right and they are simply their own unique grading system and therefore we can´t really find any info about it online. We cross our fingers that this is the case and we really do have 6 embryos to work with after the first 24 hours :)

@Lillyleaf - Good idea! We are totally lost with this grading system they provided, but we hope that as they say that there are 6 suitable embryos, we are in good condition. As far as you can tell, having 6 embryos after 24 hours from EC is a good start?

Thank you so much for the reply, much appreciated!

6 is great. Did they tell you after the egg collection how many eggs you got?

Alon789 · 20/09/2019 16:16

@LillyLeaf - yep, we were told that they collected 6 oocytes (M2 grade) which resulted in 6 embryos after 24 hours. Our concern is for the grading of those embryos, as only 1 is graded as 2PN, 1 is graded 1PN, 1 is graded just 2 (without PN) and 3 are grade 0/1 - so we are not sure if the other 5 are (that are not graded 2PN) are still able to develop properly.

LillyLeaf · 20/09/2019 16:32

That's all a bit confusing but anyway 6 is great. Fingers crossed for the next few days. Are you planning a transfer this cycle?

Alon789 · 20/09/2019 16:37

Yep, we are scheduled to do the transfer on Tuesday (5 days from EC) if the embryos will make it ofcourse :)

As I understand it PN stands for Pro Nuclear

2PN = normal fertilised embryo after day 1

1PN = abnormally fertilised

Not sure what the others mean - I'm guessing not fertilised sorry x

Alon789 · 20/09/2019 19:57

Hi @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted - Thanks for the reply! Yep, that was what we were afraid of :/

Hi,

So a quick update :) we have received this morning the results of the embryo development (day 3) and things are looking a bit better than what we expected after the day 1 results.

2x8 cells
1x9
1x10
1x5
and 1xM

We are wondering what does M stands for, as we cant find anything about it online. Also, what do you think are the chances of the 9, 10 and 5 cells embryos?

Thanks a lot and have a great Sunday!

OP posts:
eggontoast2 · 22/09/2019 11:07

I think M stands for Morula. Have you got the sheet they give you on the day of ec?
There are diagrams at the top.

LillyLeaf · 22/09/2019 11:08

From a quick Google it looks like day 3 should have between 6-10 cells, so maybe the 5 wouldn't make it, but it might catch up. No idea what M means. Looks good at day 3. It's a shame your clinic doesn't call you, it's very confusing trying to work out if things are looking good or not.

eggontoast2 · 22/09/2019 11:11

Also, if you are using their online portal there is a link at the bottom right which takes you to the diagrams they give you on the day of ec. That should explain.

Alon789 · 22/09/2019 11:20

@eggontoast2 - Thanks for the reply, we are hoping that the M indeed stands for Morula, which means the embryo developed into the next stage (before the blastocyst stage) - which is a actually a good thing, right?

@LillyLeaf - Yeah, I think that our clinic is not the most communicative one :) So we hope the 9 and 10 ones will make it to day 5, together with the 8 ones.

Thanks for your support ladies, you rock!

The clinic is very matter of fact. They know what they are doing though.
It's hard but try and relax, enjoy Brno, go to the lake, see the sights.
Good luck for Tuesday!

Alon789 · 22/09/2019 11:40

@eggontoast2 - Thank you! The weather really is amazing today (21 degrees and sunny) so we will go for a walk in the city indeed :) Have a super Sunday!

Urgh. This thread gives me nightmares. Trying to figure out all the results. Needless to say our trip wasn't a success.
Hope you have a good outcome! ET was super easy BTW

Anaesthetist83 · 22/09/2019 15:34

In some ways, I didn’t find it helpful to get updates, particularly once we knew it would be a freeze all

Alon789 · 22/09/2019 16:04

@AliceAbsolum - As this is our first IVF cycle, I honestly had no idea it would be so stressful. I can barely eat and my partner can barely sleep - we still try enjoy the beautiful city of Brno :/ I really dont get it why they make the daily results so f%$&ing hard to understand. Mr. Google is working overtime this past week.

@Anaesthetist83 - Im really starting to feel the same. I dont really see the point of having those updates, especially when there is nothing wee can do about it. If there are important news - just give me a call / email - that will be good enough.

OP posts:
AliceAbsolum · 22/09/2019 16:32

Poor you, I'm so glad I'm not there anymore. We found it so stressful. Tried to go to Vienna, that was a disaster, DH got food poisoning so I had to go to transfer alone, we had 9 eggs, 1blast, nothing to freeze.
Now getting ready to do another cycle in Cyprus, staying in all inclusive and it'll still be hot. Partly so we wouldn't have to go back to Brno Hmm I've told them I don't want updates unless it's like my UK clinic where the embryologist phoned you and you could talk to them.

Maximoo06 · 22/09/2019 16:54

@Alon789 I'm thinking of going to reprofit in Brno for my next round of ivf, how have you found it overall?

Alon789 · 22/09/2019 16:56

@AliceAbsolum - sorry to hear it didnt work out for you, I wish you all the best with your next cycle! We find Brno nice (a bit small) but after 7 days here it can definitely be quite boring, the waitresses in some Cafes and restaurants already recognize us from 200 meters away :/ our planned ET is for Tuesday, so im pretty happy to go back home and hopefully we will not need to come back here.

Wiltshirelass2019 · 22/09/2019 17:01

I don’t understand that grading system but 6 embryos is great. I had 7 eggs retrieved got 4 embryos from that which went down to 2 embryos on day 5. One implanted, one frozen and currently 37 weeks along xx good luck 💕

Alon789 · 22/09/2019 17:02

Maximoo06 - Well, this is only our first cycle with Reprofit (and in general) and we are in day 3 after EC. So far our experience is very good - the team is very professional and it seems like they are using state of the art methodologies (this is the main reason we chose them). One thing to keep in mind is that they are pretty hands-off, meaning, dont expect someone to hold your hand and give you emotional support.

As I said, so far the experience with Reprofit has been really great (and Brno is pretty nice, but small) and we keep our fingers crossed that our Embryos will make it to day 5 :)

Good luck!

@Wiltshirelass2019 - I am happy to hear things went well for you, thats very encouraging to hear! We are really hoping to make it to day 5 with 2-3 good blasts, but we are not sure whether we should implement 1 embryo or 2 (my partner is 37 years old)...
