Not sure where to post?! Conception or infertility, everyone seems to be either going through IVF on infertility or have only been trying a few months on conception board. Not really part of either, feeling a little lost and frustrated.
TTC #1 18 months
First course of Letrozole

Unexplained infertility
Never had a sniff of a bfp
AF due this on sat
Is anyone else in a similar position?

RoxyP · 28/06/2019 17:31

RoxyP · 28/06/2019 17:50

In a similar situation. TTC for 2 years, have been tested and has come back with unexplained infertility . We wanted to keep trying for a little bit longer before starting any kind of treatment .
We have an appointment for the end of September to discuss treatment but as that date gets closer I'm unsure if to push it back even further but how long do you keep trying for before enough is enough?

AliceAbsolum · 28/06/2019 22:44

Threads max out at 1000 posts. Need to make a new one.

RoxyP · 28/06/2019 22:57

@92Taylorel unexplained is such a frustrating diagnosis, I feel your pain! I waited about 16months to get checked out as I am 34 and don't really have time on my side. It's taken a while as I have had a lot of tests and a laparoscopy etc so only just started the letrozole. I found I was more positive once I started with my fertility specialist and got the ball rolling. Good luck with your appointment x

I was just going to start a thread but will hop on here if you don't mind. I'll be taking my first Letrazole tablet tomorrow.

I didn't know whether to join a clomide thread, feel a bit intimidated joining when there are hundreds of posts already. Also I know clomide and Letrazole do the same thing but they are diff drugs.

Maybe get MN to our Letrazole in the title of this post?

Anywho, this will be cycle 23 for us. One bfp in March but ended in mc 💔 I was due to start the Letrazole then but magically conceived naturally. So four months down the line had another fertility appt and we're back at this plan. My cycle this month was only 26 days so I was pretty surprised to see AF this morning.

So tomorrow will be first try with Letrazole. I'm pretty nervous. I'm not one for taking meds, I have to be really desp to even take paracetamol 🙈

I too had a lap and HSG in Jan. They lasered off quite a bit of endo but said they couldn't see anything that should stop me conceiving and DH SA was ok, a tiny bit low but nothing to worry about.

Sorry for the essay! Let's hope we don't have to try for too long now! X

Jesskir89 · 29/06/2019 22:08

Hi everyone, we've been ttc for over 2 and a half years due to me not ovulating naturally hence on chlomid now. Being referred for ivf in September if I've not caught by then

RoxyP · 30/06/2019 20:41

Hi @squirrelnutkins1 how you getting on with the letrozole? I seemed to need to pee all the time, hot sweats and banging headaches, hopefully you are coping better than me!
I'm due on anytime so more pills next week
@Jesskir89 same fertility appointment end of August for ivf so hopefully we catch before then, fingers and toes crossed x

OP posts:
RoxyP · 30/06/2019 20:45

Also @squirrelnutkins1 sorry to hear about your mc Thanks

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 30/06/2019 21:00

Thanks hun @RoxyP I've been really hot but that could be coincidental! My stomach feels a bit iffy but again that could be a coincidence!

We're doing 3 rounds of Letrazole. I've got to ring the clinic tomorrow to see about getting a scan around day 12 to see how things are progressing. Are you doing 3 rounds too? Will it be straight to ivf or will you have IUI before? Xx

@Jesskir89 oh wow, that's a really long time. How are you coping? Xx

RoxyP · 30/06/2019 21:11

@squirrelnutkins1 I got scanned every other day from day 12, 5 times in total! All went ok so they leave me be for the next 2 months, then if no luck ivf, my specialist said no ici as my husband was doing an admiral job (his words)

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 30/06/2019 21:35

I'm assuming that'll be the same for us, if everything looks ok on month one then no other scans. That's so funny, an admiral job 🤣 we've got to find some lil bits to have a chuckle at through this process! Are you private or nhs? Our hospital only gives one round of free ivf. @RoxyP

mayihavesomecakeplease · 30/06/2019 21:37

My husband is on clomid, so I'm in that weird limbo you describe- not taking part in infertility treatments myself yet, but we've been trying 2.5 years... So frustrating!

squirrelnutkins1 · 30/06/2019 22:14

I didn't realise men could take it. What stage are you at now? @mayihavesomecakeplease x

mayihavesomecakeplease · 01/07/2019 10:53

@squirrelnutkins1 he's on it for azoospermia. I think clomid for men is one of those 'not approved, but sometimes works' options. Apparently it can help with hormone levels (some bodybuilding men take clomid as a sports enhancement drug!) but I'm not feeling particularly hopeful about it if I'm honest.

I'm glad that the doctor is trying something, but it's so frustrating having to wait to see if anything happens. I kind of wish they would just do the TESE to find out if we can do ICSI or not.

squirrelnutkins1 · 01/07/2019 12:43

Ah that's interesting. I had no idea. How long does he have to try it for? Have you had any tests done? It's all very much a waiting game isn't it ☹️ @mayihavesomecakeplease

RoxyP · 01/07/2019 13:55

@squirrelnutkins1 I know it made me laugh! We are with the NHS - yorkshire fertility but I live in Malvern Worcestershire. It's an odd one, I lived in yorkshire all my life then moved down to Worcester when I got married. My husband and I were at different gp's so they wouldn't refer us to a fertility clinic. So I gave up and went back to my old gyno up north who was mortified and put me back in to the nhs up north. All my appointments are 3 hours away which is a pain but at least all the exploratory stuff was free and I can stay at my mums, If I do need ivf not sure if it will be in Worcestershire or yorkshire. Yorkshire 1 shot, Worcestershire 2 shots, sorry for the long winded explanation!
@mayihavesomecakeplease that's interesting I never knew men could take it! All this waiting is really disheartening at times

OP posts:
mayihavesomecakeplease · 01/07/2019 16:51

(Posted something which seemed to disappear, so sorry if this is a repeat somehow)

This explains the use of clomid in men better than I can:

www.verywellfamily.com/clomid-for-men-side-effects-and-success-rates-1959965

But basically it may or may not affect hormones and get sperm production started. Which, if nothing else, might mean a higher chance of finding something if they do TESE or microTESE or whatever (we haven't gotten there yet so I can't remember the names!). I'm not sure that it's going to do much for my guy as it seems to mostly be for low T, but the doc knows more than I do.

I've had a few blood tests and an ultrasound, but they've stopped doing any more investigations on my front until they have figured out if they can get any sperm from DH. We've decided against donor sperm for us, so if we can't get that far it doesn't really matter what's going on my side of things!

Teddybear45 · 01/07/2019 16:55

I was ttc for 5 years without a bfp. 3 IVF transfers without a bfp. 4th resulted in a bfp. Still not sure if the pregnancy will be able to continue normally but with IVF provided you’re following advice and getting all the tests you need done, it’s usually just a numbers game.

Jesskir89 · 01/07/2019 17:22

Sorry for the late reply girls @squirrelnutkins1 not coping great it's been a tough couple of years tbh. @Roxyp we will be going through about the same time then :) @teddybear45 how long did it take you from starting ivf to get pregnant?

squirrelnutkins1 · 01/07/2019 19:18

Oh wow @RoxyP sounds a right pain for you! Plus it really is postcode lottery as to what you're offered. I know some areas offer 3x ivf on nhs. Glad your gynao got your referral sorted. It seems you just need to find one good person to get the ball rolling. How is OH dealing with it all?

@mayihavesomecakeplease thanks for the explanation. We're all gonna be such experts by the end of all this! I can only imagine how frustrating the waiting is for you. It feels that little bit better when you have a plan in place doesn't it. Hope you get some answers and or a plan really soon.

@Teddybear45 I really wish you all the best xx

@Jesskir89 sorry you're struggling ❤️

Has anyone had counselling? I went for my initial assessment last week and I've got my first proper appointment this week. I don't really know what it'll achieve but I always feel better after I've spoken about my mc, almost like I just need to download my thoughts. I'm a very private person so only a couple of people know it happened, not even family. That's why I love these boards on MN. it's a safe space to open up and support each other.
