Starting IVF and a ball of nerves!

Hey, I'm new to all of this so I don't even know if anyone will read this! I'm 24, and start my IVF journey tomorrow with ABC IVF in Harley street. The reasoning for IVF at 24, I had Peritoneal Mesothelioma last year. (Cancer caused by asbestos) and was thrown a card of total sh*tness that year. But lucky enough to be here and in full remission. I can conceive on my own but nothing's happened in 10 months. I know it's lot a long time, but I could go into menopause in as little as 2 years from my treatments received for the cancer. I am entitled to NHS funding but it takes a lot longer and I don't really have time on my side. So my journey down the private route starts tomorrow for my first scan and going through the treatments. Does anyone have any advice for me and my partner Jack? He's immensely calm and excited and I'm a ball of nerves! Thank you for reading. :)

All the luck in the world for all of you TTC. Smile

Dani xxx

@Kay2705 that is wonderful news. Congratulations!

Hope you're feeling better @Danidandan? And that everyone else is getting along ok?

I had my baseline scan today so start my injections tomorrow...nervous but excited.

Kay2705 · 18/10/2018 19:49

Thanks @findingmywaytoday & @FingersXssd83 I really appreciate it c

@findingmywaytoday we'd been trying for 10 months but found out my husband only had 1% morphology which most people and clinic said was unlikely to happen without icsi so I guess I'm really lucky.

findingmywaytoday · 19/10/2018 22:43

Just did my first injection. Thought I'd be fine with the needle but wimped out and had to get my husband to do it! It's done though and wasn't that bad. Hope you're all getting on ok?

Danidandan · 20/10/2018 13:00

@Kay2705 congratulations!! What a lovely surprise. Have a happy and health 9 months!!

I'm not so good, I have ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. :( I have tonnes of eggs which is great. But I'm sick as a dog! Egg collection is tomorrow 10am at St Pauls. They're now waiting on a cycle and I'll have to do a frozen embryo transfer because the risk is too high. So a bit of a set back but we still keep going! Did my trigger shot last night. The only jab that stung!! X

Really sorry to hear that @Danidandan, that is really unlucky. Hope you begin to feel better asap and that tomorrow goes well. Let us know how you get on. That trigger shot is evil, I remember that from when I was on Clomid!

Danidandan · 21/10/2018 14:58

18 eggs collected today! I was totally knocked out. Very groggy and sore now and on my way home but so happy with al the eggs!

Ahh good news @Danidandan ! Rest up and I hope you feel much better and back to normal soon. I'm on day 3 of injections now and have scan / bloods tomorrow.

FingersXssd83 · 21/10/2018 16:36

Wow congratulations @Danidandan Hope they get as many from me but they only counted 10 follicles on my 8 day scan. You must be delighted

Danidandan · 22/10/2018 18:33

Thank you! :) got a call today, 12 have fertilised. So they are growing as we speak and will get another call in a couple days! Feel near enough normal today just really bloated!!

OP posts:
findingmywaytoday · 22/10/2018 20:20

Ah that is great news @Danidandan! So pleased you're feeling better and hope that the blotting goes down soon. I'm on day 4 of injections (day 6 of cycle) and had scans /bloods today. They've upped my dose of Menopur. Start antibiotics tomorrow and then throw in the cetrotide on wed just before my next scan. Let us know how you get on.

Danidandan · 25/10/2018 09:16

How's everyone getting on??

Hi everyone!
I’ve been checking your updates but not posting myself as I am in this limbo kind of period...
Had a hysteroscopy yesterday to remove a polyp from my uterus. That went ok (though quite painful and very uncomfortable). Also last night took my last norethisterone so now waiting for AF so that I can go for my baseline scan and start injections. Can wait to just get going. The anticipation isn’t a feeling I appreciate very much.

How did it go with your embryos, @Danidandan? Are you left with quite a few frozen ones? What would be your next steps? And most importantly how are feeling? Hope your ovaries are back to normal.

How is everyone else getting on?

Lauro1 · 25/10/2018 17:56

Can anyone sympathise or offer me some sanity! I had our 5day old blastocyst transferee last Friday 19th, I have been feeling really bloated but basically 2ww driving me crazy. We are due to do our pregnancy test 31st but I did it today 6 days in and was negative, felt gutted. We are on pesseries and patches and blastocyst was frozen.... anyone else been there done that!? Iv joined mumsnet purely for supportConfused xxxx

AnnieGee13 · 26/10/2018 17:03

Hi @Lauro1. Welcome!
I’ve just had my baseline scan today and have to repeat on Sunday as lining too thick today so way behind you in the process, however from what I know you probably did the pregnancy test far too early and even if the transfer was successful it wouldn’t show yet. I think you just need to be s bit more patient and keep hoping for a bit longer. You never know - it might have worked!
Good luck! Xx

Lauro1 · 26/10/2018 21:15

@AnnieGee13 thanks so much for your reply. It’s such and exciting time yet so nerve racking! I wish all you lovely people the very best of luck ❤️

Danidandan · 26/10/2018 22:59

@Lauro1 welcome! I'm new here too and came for support and I'm so glad I did! I know it's so hard, don't feel disheartened. It's still early and you still have so much of a chance! Everything crossed for you. :)

@AnnieGee13 so! I have 6 frozen.. 3 5BAS, 2 5BB and 1 5BC, so pretty damn good I think! We lost one, the other 4 are okay, they're growing them until day 6 (tomorrow) to see if they catch up. They may or may not but that's okay. I'm very lucky with 6! I started to bleed today, not AF it's the bleed after the jabs. It's a big painful but not too bad. Next steps wait for my period which is due in about 8/9 days, then I go back in for a scan, they confirmed today we can have first transfer on my next cycle so just a matter of a couple weeks now. So for the time being I'm enjoying a few glasses of wine when I can!

We are only giving it 1 go, I'm getting married next November and anymore than 1 go will be too close to the wedding. So I'm keeping positive thinking it will work, if it doesn't, we have ours frozen away and will come back to it in just over a year. So at least I know in my head if it doesn't work first time, I have things to look forward to and know our little embies are frozen waiting for us. But everything crossed it happens first time! How're you feeling?

OP posts:
Danidandan · 26/10/2018 23:00

@AnnieGee13 anticipating about everything is daunting. I know how you feel! I'm kind of back at that spot now waiting until we get our transfer. We are all strong and we will all get our little bubs ❤️

Hi Ladies, hope you're all going well? Just received a call instructing me to take my trigger shots (yes plural!) tonight. Egg collection should take place on Tuesday.

Congratulations @Danidandan ! That is an amazing result! How are you feeling now?

Any news @AnnieGee13?

@Lauro1 I have experienced the negative 6 days to early when I did Clomid earlier in the year. I did subsequently get a positive but (but I wasn't lucky in the long run) so you're still in he running! Good luck!

AnnieGee13 · 28/10/2018 18:09

Hi all!
I had a repeat of my baseline scan today and good to go. Starting injections tonight. Next scan on Wednesday and then Friday. My partner went in with me today and was talked through the injection process so I guess he’ll be the one doing it for me.

Hope everyone is doing ok xxx

findingmywaytoday · 28/10/2018 18:45

Great news @AnnieGee13! My husband has had to do all bar 2 of my injections as I'm a wimp. They're not that bad. Good luck

findingmywaytoday · 30/10/2018 12:25

Morning ladies hope you're all doing well? Had egg collection this morning. They collected 16 eggs. No idea re quality etc. Will find out more tomorrow.

Staypositivegirls · 31/10/2018 09:21

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to share some hope with you and wish you all luck. We went through ICSI last year after TTC for 18 months. I was so nervous as every month it's so disheartening seeing a BFN.

They could see I only had 7 eggs to remove and were asking if I'd like to abandon this cycle and try again for more. I perservered and they removed all 7 eggs and of that 4 were fertilised. 2 made it to day 5 and I had one put in and one frozen. I couldn't believe we'd made it so far.

I was so nervous in the 2ww as I had no symptoms! I remember crying to myself on my lunch hour that it hadn't worked as I really felt nothing. Then 2 days before I was due to take a test I decided to test early as I was convinced it was another BFN anyway. To our delight it was a BFP!!

We now have a happy and healthy 5 month old baby girl. Pregnancy went perfectly.

So never lose hope, I had very few eggs but it only takes one! And it was our first round. We hope to implant the second egg next year that we have kept frozen. Fingers crossed it works just as well.

Good luck to you all X

AnnieGee13 · 02/11/2018 08:17

Hi @Staypositivegirls.
Thank you very much for posting!
It’s really encouraging hearing stories like yours and that even if things don’t necessarily look promising there’s still a chance it will work.

I’ve been told after my 3 day scan that one of the follicles seen is twice the size of the others so we might have to abandon this cycle. There’s a risk that this follicle will disrupt the development of the others and might even ovulate on its own Sad
Having another scan to see how things are progressing. I guess I’ll find out if I can continue...

How is everyone else getting on?
Xx

Danidandan · 04/11/2018 15:18

Sorry I've been so quiet I've not had much to report on! @Staypositivegirls wow what a story. Thank you for sharing!!

So out of 11 Fertilised - we got 8 to freeze! We got I think 5ABs 2 5BB and 1 5BC, I don't really understand what they mean but the clinic said it was good. I had a big old bleed last week for a week. It's the bleed after you finish the jabs I think if you're doing a frozen cycle. It's not a period. But what I didn't ask is, I'm due on my actual period tomorrow. Will that come? Or will that other bleed count as it and I have to wait until next month? Because they won't implant until have had a full cycle so I'm a bit confused!

Hope everyone else is doing really good. They were so close to abandoning my cycle too because of the hyperstimulation.. hang in there!!!

Xxx

That’s great news @Danidandan!
I’m finishing my cycle. The consultant considered abandoning it but on balance didn’t think that I’m going to respond any differently if we start again so carrying on with it.
Things didn’t look amazing at my scan on Friday as the polyp is back and will have to be removed before transfer but at least the other follicles have slightly caught up with the ‘giant’ one (that’s what we call it with my partner 😉). I’m just slightly concerned that there’s such a massive range of sizes of those follicles and because of endometriosis on one of the ovaries, in total there are 11 follicles (only 3 on the ‘bad’ ovary). This might mean that we might not have a lot to freeze (if any).
One thing I don’t understand is at what point do the embryos get frozen? Is it straight after fertilisation or after the 5 day blastocyst? @Danidandan, you would know I guess?
I’m confused about this as we’re batching (because of the low number) but if we need to wait through the 5 day period, we would know wherever we have embryos to implant???

So been told today to trigger 1am tonight and egg collection Tuesday pm.

Any other news from anyone?

Good luck xxx
