Starting IVF and a ball of nerves!

Hey, I'm new to all of this so I don't even know if anyone will read this! I'm 24, and start my IVF journey tomorrow with ABC IVF in Harley street. The reasoning for IVF at 24, I had Peritoneal Mesothelioma last year. (Cancer caused by asbestos) and was thrown a card of total sh*tness that year. But lucky enough to be here and in full remission. I can conceive on my own but nothing's happened in 10 months. I know it's lot a long time, but I could go into menopause in as little as 2 years from my treatments received for the cancer. I am entitled to NHS funding but it takes a lot longer and I don't really have time on my side. So my journey down the private route starts tomorrow for my first scan and going through the treatments. Does anyone have any advice for me and my partner Jack? He's immensely calm and excited and I'm a ball of nerves! Thank you for reading. :)

All the luck in the world for all of you TTC. Smile

Also @Guio are you in the process now? Fingers crossed and praying for success for you!

Kay2705 · 02/10/2018 12:28

Just a quick update on myself.

Went to the initial scan today and everything went fine. Fine ish anyway.

Because I have a fibroids they have to refer my case to the doctors committee which holds this Thursday and they will let me know if I need to remove the fibroids before treatment. I'm really praying not as I want to start this weekend.

I've booked a treatment consultation for next Tuesday where they will talk me through the step by step and medication etc. If that's all done in time I could be start by my next period on 15.10.

Really hope I can go through without surgery :(

Danidandan · 02/10/2018 19:47

@Kay2705 oh no! :( I really hope you don't have to have surgery. When you've mentally prepared yourself for it all and it could be delayed makes you so on edge! Everything crossed for you. All my medication arrived today and I'm due on tomorrow so I should start injections Thursday.
They take up half my fridge!

Keep us posted, what's meant to be will be, and I hope you get started ASAP xx

Hi @Kay2705 I am meant start end of October with down regulation taking the pill which I don't like as I have taken them before when trying to avoid pregnancy and a few gave me very bad effects..@Danidandan good luck with the injections.I hope the first one is not too painful.are they meant to be in the fridge?

Kay2705 · 02/10/2018 21:27

Thanks @Danidandan hoping for good news and they said I can start. Trying to keep the spirit up. Hopefully all works out fine treatment consultation on Tuesday and I could be starting in two weeks. Good luck for this cycle hoping you get that positive outcome!! Let us know how you get on with the medication hopefully not too bad. I do wonder if it will make me extra hormonal/moody so I can give people a heads up Incase I start acting up 😭

@Guio I absolutely hated the pill when I was on it so I can imagine! Felt like it made me a different person and felt sick the whole time. Hope it works out better for you this time with less side effects.

Danidandan · 03/10/2018 14:17

@Guio yes the injections are kept in the fridge. You're allowed to take them out 10 minutes before so they won't be so cold and sting as much!!

@Kay2705 I think my hormones are going to go up the wall. The cool drove me crazy too so we can be bonkers together.

Emotions everywhere - Jack proposed on Thursday last week so I'm over the moon and trying to wedding plan which hopefully will keep my mind off the IVF things. So hopefully it'll all fall into place. Just going to be positive for us all. Really hope you can start in a couple weeks!!

Congratulations @Danidandan !!! That's so exciting. Your whole life is falling into place now. Aww this will be a great future wedding present 😍

Danidandan · 04/10/2018 17:09

So now I'm 2 days late. After months of wanting my period to never turn up, the month I want it here so I can start my jabs and I'm late! And I'm never late! :(

Want things to hurry up now gggrrr.

OP posts:
Kay2705 · 04/10/2018 17:50

Oh no I can imagine you just want to start! I hate when your body doesn't do what you want it to do. Have you tested to see if you caught this cycle?

Danidandan · 04/10/2018 18:05

No I haven't! I think I will tomorrow, it's just so strange. I'm normally 28 day clock work, I'm on day 30 now and no sign! Of course I'd welcome it. It'll be Sod's law if it was this month wouldn't it!

I don't think it will be. I do feel a bit cramping but my huge steak for dinner hasn't helped that! I'll see what happens tomorrow :)

Let me know how you get on and fingers crossed 🤞🏾

Kay2705 · 05/10/2018 17:19

Just got the call that I can go ahead!! Yay thank God!!

Just need to wait for my rubella immunity test to come back. Knowing me it might be that I'm not immune Envy

Danidandan · 05/10/2018 19:38

Yaaaaay! So happy for you! You'll be fine. I had to do that too!

Did an internet cheapie tonight - BFN.. I guess I could waited until tomorrow morning to use first morning twinkle but I think 3 days late it would have showed by now..

Just want my monthly to start now so I can do my jabs! I know I definitely ovulated this month. They saw the big follicle on my scan!!

So happy you got the go ahead! Xx

OP posts:
Kay2705 · 06/10/2018 11:10

Ahh that sucks :( hope your monthly starts soon! I can imagine you are just anxious to get the process going cos I know I am.

My rubella test came back immune so I'll officially start on the 15th. I'll be about 1-2 weeks behind you.

Danidandan · 06/10/2018 17:39

@Kay2705 ah yay!! So happy for you!
Still no sign of anything. Very bloated. Went back to the old cheapie I keep thinking there is a tiny tiny line but it's a day old and I really think it's my eyes because jack can't see anything. Wish it would hurry now so I can start! I've had cramps for the last 4 days too
:(
No alcohol from the day hour period starts and I'm so tempted to have a glass of wine now but knowing my luck I'll come on!!

OP posts:
Kay2705 · 06/10/2018 19:32

@Danidandan thank you!
Haha I'm sure a glass of wine won't be too bad! I can't imagine how annoying it is now 4 days late and nothing. If I were in your shoes I'd be POAS constantly 😭. Hopefully it appears soon

AnnieGee13 · 06/10/2018 19:57

Hello all!
This is first time ever I joined a forum of any kind...
I’m starting my down-regulation on Wednesday and been going through the whole process of scans, tests and appointments for over a year now. My partner and I have been trying for a baby for many years now and we finally decided to check ourselves out a couple of years ago. I wish we’d done it sooner but can’t go back in time...
We’re going through NHS so overall it’s taking a long time. However, once we finished all the tests and went through options with the doctors, the process suddenly started without major delays.
I jumped on here as I don’t know anyone who is going through this and feel a bit lonely in all this. My partner is trying to be there for me but he just doesn’t get it.

Anyway, as I said I start ‘the pill’ on Wednesday then have to wait for the ‘fake period’ to start. I’ll go for a scan to check I can start injecting myself. I’m really worried I’m going to turn into a mad woman during the meds.

Good luck everyone xx

Kay2705 · 06/10/2018 20:59

Hi @AnnieGee13 welcome !

I know that feeling of not having that many people to talk about it with even sometimes your partner just doesn't get all of it and the medical terms. Sorry to hear you're in this position but glad you got the ball rolling now! I came on this forum as well to meet people in similar situation I guess.

From your explanation it sounds like you are on the long protocol. I'm on the short and start injecting from cd2 so our dates will likely be close by.

Wishing you good luck!

findingmywaytoday · 06/10/2018 21:12

Evening Ladies,

I hope you don't mind me jumping on too... I've just started my 1st round of IVF - long protocol, so down regulating since Wed 3rd October and anticipate baseline scan around 18th.

I agree it's quite lonely - I don't know anyone in real life that has or is going through this process.

Good luck all!

AnnieGee13 · 06/10/2018 21:26

Thanks #Kay2705 and #findingmywaytoday!
Will be great hearing from you along your journey. It’s all quite confusing but hoping it works for all of us!

Smile
AnnieGee13 · 06/10/2018 21:31

@Kay2705 and @findingmywaytoday
Trying to tag and not sure if I’m doing it right

Kay2705 · 07/10/2018 00:04

Haha no probs @AnnieGee13 took me a
lil while to get the hang of it all.

Will definitely use this thread to keep in touch in progress as apart from my partner and best friend not telling anyone else.

And hi @findingmywaytoday Welcome! I know what you mean. I don't know anyone whose been through this so I come on the internet for support :) keep us posted on your scans.

Danidandan · 08/10/2018 21:43

@Kay2705 I finally came on today!! My god do I know about it!

Finally injections start tomorrow. Wahoooo!

Welcome everyone else too. So nice to find people going through a similar thing. :) since I started this thread I don't feel so fainted by the whole thing now. Not too scared about the injections as I had to object for weeks after my cancer. But the fact these ones are cold in the fridge I think they're going to sting a bit!! Fingers crossed for us all. Xxx
