Could a narrow cervix be the problem?

Hi there,

Been ttc for a year. I'm 35.
Just had my HSG yesterday and I mentioned to the doc the issues that they had trying to get a coil through my cervix.
I have low egg count and low hormones to ripen the eggs, but progesterone good and looks as though my tubes are good too 🤞🏻
Anyway, HSG.. worst pain ever! But it was over pretty quickly thank god.
Doc agreed I have narrow cervix. His word were 'oh test it's like a pinhole' but managed to get the smallest catheter in there.

Has anyone else got this issue, and do you know if there's anything I can do naturally to help the little swimmers get up there.
DH has low volume typically, but all else ok.

Hey i didnt want to read and run Smile
I dont know how true this is so it would be great if someone else could also confirm.

I had been told for a narrow cervix diffrent positions were good for helping it. Missonary put a pillow under your bum, doggy and spooning are good for getting the "shot" as it were aimed at your cervix although how true that is im not sure. I have also been told that a slight discomfort means that you are at the cervix.

I have heard that watermelon is fantastic for raising volume although i think that may be an old wifes tale as i was told from an older lady that i know after talking about my difficulties (Even though the problem lies with me not him)! My DH was wondering why i was always giving him watermelon Grin Just incase! Poor guy he is sick of the sight of it now.

I was told that the production of sperm is at its best if your partner ejaculates every 3-5 days that way its "Fresh".

FX that you get your BFP soon as HSG can also help clear out any gunk.

ScottishJaggyNettle · 11/05/2018 12:34

Forgot to mention Pre seed or conceive plus can also help carry sperm further (Apparently) and conception vitamins for sperm and egg quality.
I would defo ask about the hormones to ripen your eggs though as it could be that you just need hormonal tablets to help things along/ Clomid may help or IVF/ICSI in future if all else fails . Are you seeing a Fertility clinic or just your GP?

Fee6 · 13/05/2018 20:06

Hi. This is also worrying me. I have a similar problem and have been trying for over a year. Both DH and I have had tests at doctors and all clear so we are getting a referral to a specialist.

ScottishJaggyNettle · 13/05/2018 22:09

To possibly put your mind at rest a bit a nurse once told me if your period can get out sperm can get in. It may just possibly be that it is taking you a bit longer. Definitely try changing the positions to see if it helps at all. Hopefully you catch soon.
There is IUI (Have you had a HSG?) or is the narrowing too small? They may also be able to dilate you if it is too small.
I have my FX for you Smile.

Fee6 · 13/05/2018 22:38

Hi ScottishJaggyNettle. Thanks for your comments, your right if stuff comes out then it should also be able to get in. Perhaps it will just take more time, the waiting is just hard. I hope for a HSG soon. Wishful30 I am keeping my fingers crossed for you as well.

Wishful30 · 15/05/2018 08:01

Thankyou everyone!
Did have my HSG and tubes are good 👍🏻
Really like the thought that's it's possibly 'cleared out' my tubes.

DH & I dtd the night before last as 2 days pre predicted ovulation.
Got my 'peak' this morning, so going to dtd with a different position tonight. 😬

The 2 times I managed a very short chemical pregnancy I laid on the floor in the bathroom with my legs over the bath and pulled my hips up... the things we do 😂
So I will definitely be doing that again tonight lol
Pretty sure low-ish volume sperm along with a pin hole cervix is the issue.
Unsure as to why chemicals didn't take.
Pray that maybe I just needed that clean out 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm on pregnacare, he's on the male one and I've just started taking evening primrose oil as apparently it helps soften the cervix.
Not using it vaginally as well as orally as I get the feeling that's more to help induce labour.

If no luck this time. IUI will be scheduled for June 😐

Wish me luck! 🤞🏻

I ended up having my cervix dilated twice

Yes tech If period blood can get down then sperm can Get up

Tho when I had a mock transfer on cycle 3 the surgeon couldn’t get the catheter up me

So had dilation

Egg collection on 1&2 were horrendous pain which makes me think .....

ScottishJaggyNettle · 15/05/2018 21:05

I laid on the floor in the bathroom with my legs over the bath and pulled my hips up... the things we do 😂
😂 I did/do this too 😂 but i pushed the bed up to the wall and do a kinda hand stand with my lower half. I have had IVF inbetween the ivf and FET i did this... Its worth a shot (Literally 😂)

I had not heard evening primrose oil helps soften the cervix. So thankyou i will start that aswell Grin.

Fee The waiting is difficult but hopefully it will all be worth it in the end. Smile

Blondes That sounds painful Flowers was the dilation done there and then ? or did they stop your cycle ?

Fee6 · 15/05/2018 22:29

I had some good news today, the fertility specialist had a cancellation so they have offered me an appointment tomorrow. Happy but nervous to find out if they can offer some assistance. I will let you know what they recommend after, increase it will help others.

ScottishJaggyNettle · 16/05/2018 22:36

Fee how did your appointment go ? Smile

Fee6 · 17/05/2018 08:13

Hi. Appointment went well. The consultant confirmed I have little chance of getting pregnant naturally due to the problems with my cervix. He has advised me that we are going straight to IVF but embryo transfer will be via a needle in uterus which very rare. Has anyone hear of this or know where I can read about It? Did not sleep well last night just thinking about it all.

Wishful30 · 17/05/2018 08:28

I hate to diss the NHS, and whilst I appreciate most people can keep trying for a year or so before they do anything, and get pregnant. I really think they should do some examinations at least.
If I had not paid privately I would not have known my situation. And in a year or more my fertility specialist said there's a chance my egg count could halve.
It took her about 3minutes to do an ultrasound and a simple blood test.

I'm starting to realise a lot of us are not necessarily infertile, but have little chance of getting pregnant naturally due to cervical abnormalities.
It's a shame it has to get to the point where we are tearing out hair out and end up panicking as we 'left it this long'
I know this isn't the case for everyone. It's just annoying me that a lot of people could be making progress much sooner.
Now the stress and couple of years older adds to the statistics of getting pregnant naturally.

Wishing everyone the very best of luck and hope we are all pregnant this Christmas!

Hello ladies,
How's everyone getting on??
Anyone been lucky enough to get a bfp yet?

Just trying to keep myself sane but I started with the symptom checking again yesterday. I just can't stop myself.
Coming to the end of my 2ww.
Got mild left side pains. Was so tired yesterday i slept for 12hours.

DH and I have accepted we will be going for IUI next cycle. So only dtd on ovulation day and and 2days before. Didn't stress over it this time.
I've not temp checked, cm checked, just noted cramps, headache.
Highly unlikely I'm pg but I just can't help it with the symptom spotting 🤦🏻‍♀️
Had 2 chemicals so trying so hard not to test 😑

Hi Wishful30. Good to hear from You. You still have a chance this month which is good. I have had AF this past week, coupled with that I have had three hospital appointments about referal to fertility clinic so overall been feeling pretty down. That said, now I know we are going down this route I have stopped temping and symptom spotting for the first time in 2 years, and feel better for it.
Keep us posted on how you get along. I am now waiting for my first appointment at the fertility clinic, hope the wait is not too long.

Fee6 · 05/06/2018 18:02

Hi ladies. Any updates? I have 3 diffrent specialists who are going to see me and try to come up with some ideas on how to help me. Fingers crossed

ScottishJaggyNettle · 09/06/2018 22:41

Come on over to TTC 18 months or more- moving on to IUI/IVF/ICSI part 3

Fee im glad that you are feeling more relaxed now Smile Hopefully your wait is not long to be seen.

Wishful Any Luck ? Smile

Wishful30 · 10/06/2018 14:04

Hi everyone 🙂

I had my mock IUI yesterday and the catheter went in really easily. Woo Hoo
I'm going to add that compared to the HSG there was hardly any pain too.
The doctor told me that this IUI catheter is smaller and more flexible, so she was confident I wouldn't have a issue.
So pleased!
However maybe my cervix isn't that narrow after all??? 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

I'm just awaiting my LH surge any day now and we are off up to Harley street for the IUI.

🤞🏻

Wishful30 · 10/06/2018 17:35

@Fee6
Thankyou xx

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/06/2018 22:39

@wishful30 glad pain was less and no problem with mock

Tensing up while having a hsg is normal and maybe what happens to you

@Scottish. Sorry just seen this

No they didn’t stop - I have a feeling they ripped through my cervix - bit like first time sex and hymen as such excruciating pain the first two ec in uk

But can’t prove anything

Was only 3rd cycle abroad and mock that reliesed cervix was shut

Went for a dilation following month

Wishful30 · 12/06/2018 10:44

DH and I have just completed out first natural IUI.
Let the 2ww commence 🤞🏻

Hi
Wishful30 that is good news. I will be thinking of you.
Our next appointment to discuss option is one week today. Hoping for some good news.
On a side note does anyone else suffer with BV? I am worried this is also causing me problems, the meds do not work for me. Any other ideas?

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/06/2018 12:10

All crossed

Fee6 · 18/06/2018 10:46

Hi ladies.

Hope you are good. I have been a mess all weekend, my AF arrived and tomorrow we have our first appointment at the fertility clinic. I am not able to sleep or concentrate at work worrying they will say nothing can be done.

Wishful are you in the 2ww, hope you are getting on ok?

Take care all

Wishful30 · 18/06/2018 11:16

@Fee6

Try not to stress yourself too much! I know that's easier said than done, as I was the same!

The ladies I have dealt with at the fertility clinics are just amazing.
Have you had any tests at all yet? You'll be sent for bloods and need an ultrasound for egg count.
DH will have to be tested too.
But this is all good as you're on the road to finding out what's up - if anything.

I've always been that person who just gets on with things on my own... but honestly... take DH with you to as many of your appointments as you can. It's handy to have someone to hold your hand and go through it with you. When you start getting positive news it's lovely to share it together.

Had my IUI last Tuesday. Went to Butlins Absolute 80's weekend and managed to avoid all alcohol without too many questions 👍🏻
Not sure the spa was a good idea as I didn't realise hot baths are actually a problem from the word go 🤷🏻‍♀️ but 🤞🏻

Not supposed to test until next Tuesday (14days after IUI) but I think I can hold off till the weekend.
Just 6dpo and no noticeable signs yet. 😑

Wishing you all the best for your fertility appointment and hope all is ok xxx
