Could a narrow cervix be the problem?

Hi there,

Been ttc for a year. I'm 35.
Just had my HSG yesterday and I mentioned to the doc the issues that they had trying to get a coil through my cervix.
I have low egg count and low hormones to ripen the eggs, but progesterone good and looks as though my tubes are good too 🤞🏻
Anyway, HSG.. worst pain ever! But it was over pretty quickly thank god.
Doc agreed I have narrow cervix. His word were 'oh test it's like a pinhole' but managed to get the smallest catheter in there.

Has anyone else got this issue, and do you know if there's anything I can do naturally to help the little swimmers get up there.
DH has low volume typically, but all else ok.

So yesterday my mild pinching across my uterus has turned into actual cramps with left side pain.
My chest is hurting. I can't tell if it's my boobs or more my ribs behind. But shooting pain in the left side.
my rheumatoid arthritis is playing up too today so a bit difficult to distinguish between types of pain.
I am also super tired.
I'm really hoping these are good signs! 🤞🏻

So I stupidly POAS at 8dpo 🤦🏻‍♀️
I woke up at 4am and just couldn't help myself.
It was very clearly negative on a FRER test.

Most of my symptoms have gone.
Tiny mild very occ twinge on the left side.
Have had some creamy cm, but only a tiny amount.
I'm annoyed I tested as really, it's too early. But also disappointed as I was convinced I was, and now I've messed with my own head, wonder if my symptoms weren't actually real, and I know damn well it's really early to test yet regardless.

Someone slap me 🙄

Hi Ladies, I had an HSG yesterday (agony) and they had to force their way through my cervix as it was completely shut (cervical stenosis they called it). Have any of you ever been given a reason for having a very small opening?

Wishful30 · 20/06/2018 12:09

@79andnotout

My HSG was the worst thing I have ever experienced, so I'm really not looking forward to childbirth!!
I was told my cervix is like a pinhole and had to have a mock IUI.
I've been taking evening primrose oil ever since as I've read it can help to soften and relax the cervix. It is used to bring on labour, so now I'm in my 2ww I have stopped it to prevent cramps ect.
My mock was so easy, barely felt a thing, and my IUI was a breeze. Whether it's all I'm my head I don't know.. 🤷🏻‍♀️
I don't know if having the HSG so early in the cycle doesn't help as your cervix is narrow and harder anyway?
And when they do the IUI you're fertile so it's more open.
My lovely mock doctor advised me that the catheter for IUI is much smaller than the HSG catheter. So if you are going down that route you will be fine!

Thanks @Wishful30 - I had mine on day 12 so it should have been open, and it was very soft (they had to grip it with forcep things to stop it moving around as it was so soft). I was completely relaxed as wasn't expecting pain and have a pretty good pain threshold anyway, so don't think I was clenched up. So, sounds like my issues are something different.
Glad you found EPO useful, I take that pre ovulation anyway. Thanks for your help!

Hi ladies. Been an eventful few days here. I have seen the specialist and the news was not good. They have confirmed they cannot transfer the embryo through my cervix. I found the whole consultation very difficult and really struggled with how matter of fact they were that it will just not work. They have agreed to look at Transmyometrial Embryo Transfer but do not appear to think it will work and it has alot of addition risks. Has anyone else heard of this and know if it can work? I have cried for two days and just want to hide away, think I need to speak with someone but the doctors have offered no support so don't really know where to turn.

Wishful30 · 21/06/2018 19:43

@Fee6
You poor thing. Sending hugs!!
Did you go see a fertility specialist or just a normal doc?
I have not heard of the transmyometrial,(hope I got that right) but I know the lady before I had my IUI was in for an embryo transfer via needle or something like that. It was her third and they sedated her to do it. She came alone that time as she was used to it, but they refused to do it without her being accompanied out after. So she went in alone with no sedation. Brave lady. She didn't seem too bothered.

Strange question... you have normal periods?
So your cervix is not completely closed?
I have heard quite a few people have the cervix dialated. Would this not be an option?

Feel for for you right now, sending hugs and support your way!!
There must be another option? 😕🤞🏻

@Fee6 really sorry to hear this. Have they said what has caused your narrow cervix? is it a congenital thing? Do you still have periods?

I will let you know if my consultant sheds any light on this when I get my appointment, although I've just been told to continue trying naturally for now as sperm are pretty good at making their way through small holes. A year isn't that long in the grand scheme of things, so maybe it will just take a while longer? How old are you?

Wishful30 · 22/06/2018 21:33

3 people I know have announced their pregnancies 😩

Well I'm pretty sure I'm out again 😔
We've had a really bad few weeks with a family major traumatic accident and just a couple of days ago, the sudden death of my husbands nan, so I can't say I'm not surprised with all the stress.

I next to no symptoms until yesterday where I had some cramping. But all over, not one sided pinching.
DH & i bd last night and that can sometimes get af going. After when I wiped (sorry, tmi)
I had pink discharge. Which is very unusual as I normally get brown spotting before af for a day or two.
I had a bfn on FRER yesterday morning, and my clear blue monitor just requested a test, bfn.
Pretty sure af is almost here 😔 she's due tomorrow.
95% knows she's coming, 5% of me is praying so darn hard that it's implantation. But I'm 12dpo and cd24 now.

Lots of money spent, and now I'm going to have to take drugs and have injections😕

Good luck next month everyone xxx
