Trying to conceive baby#2 following ivf treatment for #1

I thought I would start this thread as I can't see anything similar. We underwent many rounds of icsi and following a couple of bfns, and an ectopic pregnancy we were finally blessed with our beautiful daughter last year.

We recently started thinking about baby no 2 and had 4 frozen embryos of which 2 had been tested and found to be chromosomally normal so are meant to have a better chance. We didnt have the other 2 tested.

A couple of weeks back we had our first fet with one of the tested embryos and got a bfp super early at 4dp5dt. Sadly by 8dpt the line was barely visible and resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I've been feeling really down about it as this was meant to be a super duper embryo with no genetic problems which they said was the main reason embryos fail.

I thought it would be easier trying for #2 and of course it is in a way as I realise how lucky I am to have had a baby but I can feel the infertility fog starting to descend again as I realise although I've had a brief respite I will never be like my fertile friends and I do really want another baby and a sibling for my little girl.

Im feeling a bit negative at the moment. We will probably go back for the other tested embryo in the near future but I can't see how I would ever get lucky enough to get 2 bfps in a row. These things just don't happen to me so just not too hopeful about it at all. We said that if we used all of our frosties with no success we would be happy with what we have but already I am thinking should I do more fresh cycles. I will be 39 soon though so time isn't on my side for that.

Anyway just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation and would like to share the journey. Please come and say hi.

Snow glad to hear things are going well. Sigh...the anxiety never ends! Genghis sorry to hear about the bfn. Sounds positive that you’re making plans already...
Faerie hi, I am now 40 and preparing for FET. Have started Progynova so will be a couple of weeks before transfer.

On this, did anyone else who is/has taken progynova experience side effects? I have felt so nauseous today. I hope I don’t have to endure this for the next few weeks, is rotten!

Snowdayfet · 17/08/2018 11:00

Hi jen just checking in - hope everything is going ok. I never had any side effects from progynova but lots of people do. Keeping everything crossed for a successful fet for you Flowers

Jenbot78 · 19/08/2018 19:36

Hey! Thanks a lot, really appreciate your good wishes. FET planned for Thursday, has come around quite quick. I am managing my anxiety by keeping busy. Am on prednisolone which is doing my stomach in a bit (and oh so hungry!) and also am already bloated from progesterone. Will all be worth it if it works, not so much if it doesn’t 😬. How are you doing? Good I hope. Hope the anxiety has abated somewhat (does it ever?!!) xx

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 20/08/2018 04:44

Oh good luck Jen, everything is crossed for you.

I've been feeling a little despondent. I went back to my consultant a few days after my blood test, and she didn't even know what the result was! Anyway, she wants another identical cycle, after a month off, so I'm just waiting for AF to arrive to start again.

You must be nearly half way now Snow, I hope it's all going well.

Snowdayfet · 20/08/2018 08:32

Ooh good luck for Thursday jen! Will be sending good sticky bean vibes your way

genghis that sounds utterly infuriating. It’s bad enough to have to go through all this without hcps being so disinterested in you as a person. Will you actually get the result at some point?

I’m fine - yes almost half way, I have my 20w scan next week. I think once I’ve got through that and seen the brain and heart all ok (hopefullly!) etc it will get a bit easier. But it’s a very high quality problem to have and am so so grateful to be this far along!

twinkledag · 20/08/2018 10:15

Good luck for Thursday @Jenbot78.

Good luck for your 20 week scan@Snowdayfet.

Thanks
Jenbot78 · 21/08/2018 11:44

Snow great that things are going well, hope the scan goes fine next week. Genghis agreed that sounds REALLY annoying and frustrating. More waiting...is the name of this game.

Thanks all for well wishes. I had a quick question about picking up your babies after ET? My daughter is pretty light but still 15 months old, did any of you take any special precautions or just carry on as normal?

Snowdayfet · 21/08/2018 12:52

I carried on as normal jen as didn’t really have a choice with my little clinger! He wouldn’t have tolerated not being picked up. (Ditto the whole way through his pregnancy - he sprawls all over my stomach nightly digging into me with his knees and feet.) I think the advice is just not to do anything you’re not used to.

Jenbot78 · 24/08/2018 22:10

Thanks for the tip, as you say is impossible not to pick up our babies! ET yesterday, managed an hour or so with daddy cuddles then back to normal service with picking up etc. Now we wait...keeping busy is the only thing I can think to do (not hard these days...!)

Snowdayfet · 25/08/2018 16:11

Pupo jen! Congrats. Keeping everything crossed for you x

twinkledag · 29/08/2018 21:42

Good luck @Jenbot78! When are you resting?

twinkledag · 29/08/2018 21:42

*testing!

Jenbot78 · 29/08/2018 22:13

Aw thanks so much guys for popping back and saying hi, it really means so much! Well I had a bleed today which was quite dark red blood but now has stopped. What a total mindfuck (pardon the French.) I am not at all optimistic about this being a BFP as it was just like when my period starts. I will test in the morning. Have been crying all evening and wondering where I will get the strength to go through all this again (I know I will find it somewhere but right now I can’t see where...) Will post the outcome tomorrow!

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 30/08/2018 04:54

Good luck today Jen - everything is crossed for you. Sorry to read about the bleed, hopefully it was nothing, and you'll see a lovely bfp this morning xx

I hope your 20 week scan goes/went well Snow?

I collected my meds today, so now I'm just waiting for AF to arrive. To go along with my crappy consultant, I've also been having so much drama with my insurance company about covering the costs. Pfft. At least it makes the days go quicker..I suppose.

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 30/08/2018 04:57

Oh, and to give you a laugh, I told my friend that the last attempt didn't work, and she replied that she knew that it wouldn't as my horoscope wasn't right for then. She's lovely and means well (and is actually very supportive) but all I could do was snort.

faeriequeen · 30/08/2018 05:02

Fingers crossed for you all.

twinkledag · 30/08/2018 08:15

I'm sorry @Jenbot78 about the bleed but hoping for good news this morning 🤞

@GenghisKahnSchmitz- the things people say hey? Angry

Jenbot78 · 30/08/2018 10:01

Hey, BFN this morning 7 days past transfer. Bleeding has stopped though. Completely resigned to the fact this is all over but wish i could just come off the medication and then move on...

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 30/08/2018 10:18

Oh, I'm so sorry Jen. It all just sucks.

Jenbot78 · 30/08/2018 10:24

I know, doesn't it just? I spoke to the clinic just now as I haven't got enough Prednisolone to last me until OTD. They told me that it isn't normal to have a bleed early on a FET as the drugs usually hold a bleed off until you come off them and that I shouldn't lose hope. Now I'm even more confused :( just want it all to be over! I certainly don't feel pregnant that's for sure.

Snowdayfet · 30/08/2018 10:40

Oh god jen I’m sorry. I tend to agree with you that you should be getting a bfp by now - but I suppose there’s always hope. Big hugs Flowers

GenghisKahnSchmitz · 30/08/2018 10:41

What a head wreck. Obviously I hope they're right but it's hard when you think it's a bfn and just want that cycle to be over. When is OTD?

twinkledag · 31/08/2018 11:48

Praying it's too early for you @Jenbot78 🤞🏽

Jenbot78 · 31/08/2018 12:41

Aw thanks guys, official test date not till next Wednesday but I will test on Sunday again which will be 10 days past transfer. When I had IVF for DD I got a positive at the same time. I haven’t had any more bleeding since the other day, bad cramps sometimes SO painful that I don’t see how I could be preggers. Also would expect boobs to be sore but nothing there either (now 8 days past 5 day transfer.) I am an exhausted, emotional wreck. I don’t remember the 2ww being as brutal as this last time. 😢

Jenbot78 · 02/09/2018 11:02

Hey everyone, did a Clearblue digi test this morning and got a BFP!! Was NOT expecting it; had another light bleed yesterday morning and thought it must be all over what with the pain as well.

Only thing I am anxious about is that with DD from fresh cycle the window said 2-3 weeks at 10 dpt but this said 1-2. My wee was quite diluted though and I do wonder if I had late implantation (implantation bleed on 6 dpt)

Any words of wisdom wise ladies?
