Clomid

Hi all just wanted some advice and what others thought of taking the fertility tablets Clomid. I have the option if taking Clomid but wanted to see what others thought about it. Has it worked for others and how long does it take before you got pregnant. Also is there any major side effects that anyone experienced?

I know a lot of questions, I'm just very anxious and just want to know what others opinions are.

If you have irregular cycles, don't ovulate it can help ovulation. So I didn't ovulate generally until cd 16-26, if I ovulated. I now ovulate cd 16 on clomid (twice in a row! Just started cycle 3...).

I get hot flashes and headaches. I take it at night to help avoid some of those symptoms.

If you already ovulate, I've heard a common side effect is uterine polyps and fibroid growth. But do some more research on that.

It hasn't worked yet. I only get 6 cycles before we move on to IVF.

I've pcos. I was ovulating but not high enough level. So I took a low dose of clomid and became pregnant on the second round. I'd no side effects. So good luck.

Scrumptiousbears · 04/01/2018 22:08

I fell pregnant in my second round of Climid. Without it I wouldn't have her.

mistletoeprickles · 04/01/2018 22:12

I took clomid.

The main side effects as pp has said was hot flushes so I too took them at night. I was also moody, kind of pms like.

I fell pregnant on round 4 (rounds 1 and 2 the dose wasn't enough). Sadly this pregnancy ended in miscarriage.

Ds was Concieved on round 8. Clomid is only advised for 6 cycles as there is very limited research for the effects on the body. I had 3 extra round off licence but at the go ahead from my specialist.

For us it was worth every second because without it we wouldn't have ds now.

DaisyLand · 04/01/2018 22:18

My side effects currently 26w pg ;) 2nd cycle as well. I didn’t have the period for 14months because of pcos so it did really help me.

However I know people who hasn’t been able to conceive in them

I have been diagnosed with anovulation ( no ovulation) and am just about to start cycle 5 of clomid. I take the tablet at night so don't notice too many side effects but mainly hot flushes. My cycles are a lot heavier too and have been more clotty than before. It is working though and I am ovulating around CD 16. I have my fingers crossed it will work in one of my last 2 cycles as the next step is IVF.

physicskate · 06/01/2018 19:31

Bright eye- I'm in literally the same position...

brighteye3986 · 06/01/2018 19:59

@physicskate it's horrible being in this position but it's good to know I'm not the only one going through it. Although I was feeling really hopeful for my last cycle but AF arrived last night 😔 Here goes to the next cycle 🤞🏻

physicskate · 06/01/2018 20:05

I''ve just taken my last clomid cycle 4 tablet. That must make me cd6... ov is now likely in about 10 days.

Planning on quitting my job if we have to do IVF. Would feel like I'm letting my students down with my eye off the ball for that long. I barely survived 3 tacking scans.

imyourgirl · 06/01/2018 20:07

I had four cycles and it didn't work.

villainousbroodmare · 06/01/2018 20:10

I had two cycles of Clomid, then gynae switched me to Femara. One cycle. Twins due in May.

dramallamakarma · 06/01/2018 20:19

I have a 6 week old DC conceived on round 4 of clomid, no regrets. Yes there were some side effects but worth it IMO.

I was also started on thyroid medication at the same time as I was borderline under active, this could've also helped us conceive.

Whowhatwhy · 06/01/2018 20:19

I took clomid when ttc my first child after two years of trying. She's 11 tomorrow.

brighteye3986 · 06/01/2018 20:23

Good luck @physicskate. 🤞🏻 this cycle works for you. I am just about to start cycle 5 tonight.

I am lucky with my job as I work for a small company who are quite understanding. And one of my IVF options is about 5 minutes from work too. I can't imagine what it must be like being in a teaching career and going through this.

imyourgirl · 06/01/2018 20:32

It's worth adding a lot of doctors in the States won't do more that 3 rounds due to the risk of cancer.

Catinthecorner · 11/01/2018 03:14

I’m in the US. Currently waiting to start round six (one at 50mg, 2 at 100mg, 2 at 150mg and allowed four more at 150mg unless the impact on my endo becomes an issue)

Dolwar · 11/01/2018 12:00

I just started it for the first time. I have woken up every night since dripping with sweat. It's less than 0 outside and the thermostat is set to 12°C overnight mainly for the dogs.

MmmMalbec · 14/01/2018 20:08

I ovulated but something just wasn't working. I think I had low progesterone but they wouldn't test it on a normal cycle so I had to do a round of clomid. I got pregnant with DS2 on cycle 1! He's now 4 months. Good luck everyone xx

Russkispy · 22/01/2018 20:58

I took Clomid cd5-9 and then had Ovitrelle shot followed by IUI. These were all given by my doctor at the private clinic. It was the first time I took Clomid. Ive a,ways ovulated regularly around cd12-cd14. But anyway I took Clomid and here we are, my DD is almost 8 months now.
We decided to TTC #2. I think AF is on its way as we speak. And here’s my question. I still got spare Clomid left. Do you think I could take them without doc’s supervision and follow up scans etc? Or better not risk it? I never had any side effects from it. I just don’t know what to do? We thought we would naturally TTC for 3 months and if unsuccessful then do IUI back at my clinic. But taking Clomid now, would I increase my chances of natural conception ? Your thoughts are welcome. Thank you!

Dolwar · 23/01/2018 10:41

I would never take prescription only medication without the advice or knowledge of your doctor

AmyL88 · 23/01/2018 12:32

@Russkispy I personally would take the clomid. I'm not monitored on my clomid cycles and you know you react well to it. x

Russkispy · 23/01/2018 16:00

Thank you, ladies. Waiting to hear from my doctor

physicskate · 27/01/2018 09:57

Question: If I am now ovulating regularly with clomid, we are still dtd all the goddam time (really difficult as I'm super depressed about ttc), and my tubes are highly unlikely to be blocked (two chemicals: 10 and 18 months ago), then why am I still not getting pregnant???? Despite fc saying it would 'double my chances' and I'm 'unlikely' to be heading for IVF????

I'm honestly about to give up.

Russkispy · 27/01/2018 10:28

Physics, dont give up! I’m CD2 today. Bloody AF got me! My doctor said not to take Clomid as she think my uterus might not be ready and need to do hysteroscopy with “scratching”. Booked to go home in March to get this done as it’s so bloody expensive here!
I bought a book called pregnancy approach which guarantees getting pregnant after 3 months following the approach. I was curious about the book and this particular approach. And it’s basixally about holistic approach! If anyone is interested I’m happy to send you a copy of it. It’s in PDF. Just PM and I’ll forward it to you
Also bought a book It starts with the egg. I’ll post a few things on here a little later. It might help to some of us
Happy to share with all!

I am new to mumsnet and signed up purely to ask the same question.
I have just been prescribed clomid by my fertility consultant and I am trying not to get either over excited or worried by it.
I have been told I have polycystic appearing ovaries and have struggled to pinpoint ovulation despite having regular periods averaging every 30-35 days.
I bought the clear blue fertility monitor and that did detect that I had ovulated sometimes but on various days each cycle so I don’t know whether clomid is the right thing for me?
Just willing to try anything for a little one.
Any similar stories that ended in success would be amazing Smile
