Day 1 of IVF treatment - follow my journey

Hi,

I wanted to start a blog of my IVF experience to help other women in the same position as me, but also to keep me calm through an unknown experience.

I'm 37, and my husband and I have being trying to conceive for a long time and began investigations with the NHS in February 2016. Today, 20 months later is Day 1 of IVF treatment. Due to my polycystic ovaries I have been placed on a short cycle. This means from day 1 of IVF drugs, my egg collection is approximately 10-14 later. Polysystic ovaries produce more follicles in your ovaries, hence a shorter cycle, but there can be risks of hyper stimulation during this phase (let's hope not!).

I was nervous about self-injecting but let me reassure you that it is very easy, and just feels like a little scratch. I have been advised I may
feel tired and experience bloating from the ovaries growing in size. Baggy pants are ready! I've attached a photo of the drugs which stimulate the follicles in the ovaries and those which stop ovulation.

I'm booked for a follow up scan in 5 days, 7 days and then egg collection in 10 days.

I'm feeling excited, but nervous... sounds about right I suppose?

Follow my posts, and share your thoughts on this experience...

:-)

Hi,

Just an update on my IVF journey. I’ve been feeling mildly nauseous since implantation day and it’s getting a little stronger, especially in the mornings. It’s strange as I’m a little hungry too! Ive has period cramps everyday too, there not letting up! The delightful side effect is larger boobs, albeit very sore! My husband hugged me the other day and I had to push him off Confused. I’ve been really cautious to not over exert myself, but I did manage a 5km run on the weekend so I’m happy! Star198 how are you feeling?...

Evening bloggers,

Thought I’d share how I’m feeling. My nauseous is lasting most of the day, and although I don’t feel like being sick I’m out of breath easily and tired. I’m assuming this is the progesterone but I found myself short of breath talking today, which was a little worrying. Is this normal?

Hi IVFmum
I think this all sounds normal i am sick most of the day but not throwing up. It gets close at times!!!
I would say shortness of breath ia probably quite normal. I feel the same at times but ive put it down to there being more blood pumping around my body faster so everythings a bit harder :)

Had my first scan today! All is well, our baby is 1.2cm and healthy :-) I’m now 7 weeks, 2 days pregnant. I’ve been feeling fairly nauseous and off food so I’ve lost a little weight and I’m fairly tired. All to be expected! Star198 how are you feeling??

You can see the yolk sac and the baby and it’s heart beating! I’ve been at a private clinic through the NHS so I now need to make an appointment at my doctors to see the midwife. It’s really real now! Grin
