Day 1 of IVF treatment - follow my journey

Hi,

I wanted to start a blog of my IVF experience to help other women in the same position as me, but also to keep me calm through an unknown experience.

I'm 37, and my husband and I have being trying to conceive for a long time and began investigations with the NHS in February 2016. Today, 20 months later is Day 1 of IVF treatment. Due to my polycystic ovaries I have been placed on a short cycle. This means from day 1 of IVF drugs, my egg collection is approximately 10-14 later. Polysystic ovaries produce more follicles in your ovaries, hence a shorter cycle, but there can be risks of hyper stimulation during this phase (let's hope not!).

I was nervous about self-injecting but let me reassure you that it is very easy, and just feels like a little scratch. I have been advised I may
feel tired and experience bloating from the ovaries growing in size. Baggy pants are ready! I've attached a photo of the drugs which stimulate the follicles in the ovaries and those which stop ovulation.

I'm booked for a follow up scan in 5 days, 7 days and then egg collection in 10 days.

I'm feeling excited, but nervous... sounds about right I suppose?

Follow my posts, and share your thoughts on this experience...

:-)

OMG that’s so exciting!! Tomorrow I’ll be 9dp2dt so maybe I should try... although they advised 14dp2dt. The wait is killing me! I’ve felt mild period type dull cramps, my boobs are sore and I’m out of breath easily. I think these are normal symptoms for progesterone tablets so I don’t want to get excited... Arghhhhh

Keeping everything crossed!!!!

IVFmumtobe · 11/11/2017 21:51

So I took a test first thing this morning and got a very very faint line! It would make sense as I’ve had symptoms! I’m going to take it again tomorrow and see if it’s the same or darker... EAK! Grin

Star198 · 17/11/2017 21:02

Congratulations ivfmum thats such amazing news!!! You will be about 7 weeks im guessing at that point? I imagine you will see the sack and the start of baby and its an internal scan :)
I have to call monday to book my 7 week scan. Still not feeling real other than feeling sick and tired hehe.

Hi planegazer. Yes we had icsi
Are you currently having treatment/ about to have treatment x

IVFmumtobe · 17/11/2017 21:48

Hi Planegazer, we had IVF. Originally was due ICSI but my DH made some major lifestyle changes in the last 6 months which I believe contributed to his increased count.

OP posts:
twinkledag · 17/11/2017 21:52

Which lifestyle changes did he make?

IVFmumtobe · 18/11/2017 14:48

Hi,

He cut down drinking dramatically (only on holidays) and in the last 3 months stopped completely ahead of our treatment. We’ve both been regularly excersising to keep fit and taking multivitamins. He also cut out caffeine from both coffee and tea. We both started eating nutri-bullet smoothies for breakfast which are packed with anti-oxidants which I think made a huge difference to our overall health. And finally, I believe had to most impact was a pill called Fertilsan which he took for 6 months and increased his sperm count from 8million to between 56-110million. It varies day to day but helped make him more fertile. We have literally done everything we could and make big changes in the hope we would fall pregnant! As it happens, I feel amazing and wouldn’t go back to my old diet or lifestyle. I may never drink again, it’s enlightening!

twinkledag · 18/11/2017 18:27

That’s great.

I’m rubbish with exercising but DH exercises 3 times a week, has cut drinking right down and has a smoothie most mornings so fingers crossed!
