Hi there

First time on this site. I am 43, and hoping to start IVF next year (i have to have a procedure to remove fibroids first...) and I want to go abroad but am overwhelmed by the number of clinics. I was thinking Spain.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for clinics in Spain?

thanks

Hi @Summer10000
I've been at IVF Spain (Alicante) doing a donor round. Got pregnant first round but sadly just miscarried. They go a step further than just doing phenotype matching (ie eye, hair and skin colour) their tag line is that they'll find your twin.
The consultants and their protocols are excellent....which shows as it was the top performing clinic in Europe in 2018....however the support from the patient assistant team and others in the clinic has been awful, to put it politely. They aren't very proactive in checking in on you and if you have questions it's not easy to get quick responses.
If you can handle drive your own care their results speak for themselves with a 92% cumulative success rate over 3 cycles.
There is a lot of additional costs and arranging because you are having treatment at a distance for example sorting out your own scans (£100 plus per scan and 1 during mock cycle and 1 in actual cycle), blood tests (HCG, progesterone - I managed to get mine through GP), endometrial scratch (_£250 plus and done during mock cycle). The clinic will give you prescriptions but again the drugs are on top which for me is was progesterone, oestrogen throughout, aspirin, clexane, prednisone after transfer) which during mock cycle and real cycle would be around £700. It's also worth noting that if you don't get a prescription with a wet signature there is only a limited number of places that will accept an email prescription direct from the clinic. Stork are pretty good but then you pay £45 on top of drugs for the dispense and delivery so you'll want to have enough to get to HCG test the do bigger order once BFP confirmed. Good luck finding the right clinic.x

Hi @Blondeshavemorefun
I went to Ivi Madrid in June and I had success first time with DE icsi
I would recommend them as results are high but not for communication or support. Basically you need to do most organising yourself.
I am now 14 weeks pregnant so fingers crossed I’m on the way to becoming a first time mummy at 47!
How are you getting on??

Good Luck every one out there trying it really can work :)

SLR1982 · 21/08/2019 07:58

Hi @Happylucyloo. Reading your response was very interesting. It sounds like communication and support (or lack of it) is a common issue regardless of where you go.
This is a big comfort as I thought maybe I'd made a big mistake on where I should have spent such a vast amount of money.

@SLR1982 I'm sorry to hear of your miscarriage. Flowers

Just checking it is IVI Alicante and your phone changed it to IVF? I'm supposed to be getting started with them too, went to IVI London for blood tests and had to chase and chase Alicante to look at results (12 days). The coordinator told me they were overworked!
Anyway we are concentrating on outcomes rather than support and planning cycle soon.

@Happylucyloo congratulations and hope all goes smoothly

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/08/2019 10:10

Oh wow. Many congrats @Happylucyloo

That’s amazing

But weird bad communication. My lady was amazing

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/08/2019 10:11

@SLR1982 sorry for your Mc

SLR1982 · 21/08/2019 10:21

Thanks @JeNeBaguetteRien. I appreciate your kind words.
It was IVF Spain - different to IVI Alicante, but weirdly they're not very far apart.

JeNeBaguetteRien · 21/08/2019 11:41

Hi @SLR1982 sorry, I wasn't sure if they were the same clinic, my phone usually corrects IVI to IVF!

Be kind to yourself, miscarriage is so cruel especially after taking so much to get pregnant in the first place.

Summer10000 · 21/08/2019 15:42

@SLR1982 thank you so much for all that information. You have brought up some points that I will most definitely ask about. It really is a mind field and I know what you mean. No one gets back to you, constantly chasing and that's just over here. Sad that we have to deal with that on top of what we all ready have to deal with. So sorry about your mc :(
We will all get there in the end just have to stay positive.
@Happylucyloo congratulations such amazing news.

Have any of your partners had a FISH test by any chance? this is something IVF Barcelona have requested we get done

SLR1982 · 21/08/2019 17:09

Thank you all. You're right, MC is such a brutal hurdle in an already very difficult journey. I keep telling myself that it is just a hurdle and I've conquered soooooo many of them already to get to where I am. I can do another!
Hearing others stories does give hope.
