IVF Cycle Buddies August/September?

meadowlark3 · 02/08/2017 19:21

Anyone starting a cycle this month? I know there's a July/August thread, but seems that they've mostly all started on their cycles. I'm due to start DR tomorrow and if all goes well will have EC at the beginning of September.

Have not shared our IVF journey with too many people in IRL so would love to have a bit of company here. This will be our first go at IVF, so quite nervous at the mo!

Iced - that's tremendous news. Feeling a bit better tonight. Still got a splitting headache.

Emma - here's hoping they arrive soon. It's only 1 injection on day 21 of cycle. Then period should come at normal time. In 2 weeks I'll start the other injections. I'm not relishing injecting myself. The other half is a woose with things like that so he'll be no help.

BeHereNow31 · 29/08/2017 22:26

scotlas yes, I've to take tablets for another week, then will get a scan again
Is this a fresh cycle for you?
I was so nervous before the first injection. After that it was easy. Aim for a fat bit, if you have any! 🙃 Didn't feel anything then. If I hit a muscle, that was uncomfortable
Good luck

Scotslass01 · 29/08/2017 23:23

Yeah 1st fresh cycle. It's all very new and daunting.
Ha! Thanks for the tip. There is definitely a wee bit of fat I can use 😂

meadowlark3 · 30/08/2017 08:22

Thrilled to hear so much great news. Fox congrats on your scan and good luck injecting today! Gem fab that you're progressing and scan looks good. Fingers crossed for Friday!

Scots sorry for the headaches. I had some the first couple of days but then evened out, so hope that's true for you too!

Ging I hope it's you next, too. DH and I are just about the only ones of our friends who don't have kids and it's certainly affected our friendships as everyone's in mum and dad mode. It has been so difficult. Good luck with your injecting, I think we're about the same place in the cycle. When is your next scan?

Beherenow sorry about the lining. My clinic mentioned that if it was too thin or the follicles didn't seem ready, I would just continue stims for a few more days. Did you get any instructions from your clinic?

Emma welcome. Sorry you find yourself here but certainly a lovely bunch of ladies. Definitely hard not to have anyone in real life to chat with so glad we are here. Hope your period comes soon-when are you due on? Will you have a scan at day 10? We are MFI as well, DH has a low count.

I'm on day 4 of stims. DH has been doing them and is definitely improving his technique. He even seems to like it Shock So far not feeling too many side effects, still a bit tired and perhaps a bit sensitive emotionally. But otherwise better than I'd imagined it would be.

BeHereNow31 · 30/08/2017 10:46

Just to stay on the same tablets for a week meadow and then get a scan again

I just felt very tired with stims. Not too bad x

Scotslass01 · 30/08/2017 15:49

Meadow - I hope that's the case for me I'm really struggling with it today 😞

meadowlark3 · 30/08/2017 18:11

Good luck with the tablets beherenow. Will send lots of thickening thoughts to your lining!

Scots sorry you're having such a rough go. Are you drinking enough water? I was incredibly thirsty and drank loads, not sure if that might have helped me.

Fox23 · 30/08/2017 21:25

Good afternoon ladies, and welcome Emma 😀
So, just did my first injection... ok, I'll correct myself, my husband did it for me. He is Petrified of needles! So I'm proud of both of us. And it didn't hurt at all! I'm happy bunny now.
Scots I was told yesterday to drink at least 2l of water every day, so maybe that will help you. Not sure if it is to avoid head aches but doctor was quite insistent about it.
beherenow just stay positive, I'm sure you will be ok, and your lining will thicken.

BeHereNow31 · 30/08/2017 22:28

Congrats fox that's one of the hardest parts out the way for you now.
Thanks for the positive thoughts 😌 I am remaining calm! trying really hard too anyway!

Emma1199 · 30/08/2017 22:36

Evening ladies - although very tired - feeling in good spirits - my period arrived (3 days after finished tablets)!

Meadowlark3 - my scan before stimulation is now booked for Friday morning (eek) - if all goes well, I will start stim injections on Friday (for 14 days, I think) - it's becoming more real now...

Icedgem124 - best of luck for you for Friday too.

Fox23 - glad to hear injections went well - I am hoping hubby is able to cope with the needles when it comes to it!

Scotslass01 - hope you feel a bit better soon - hope the water helps x

Icedgem124 · 31/08/2017 14:16

Sorry everyone I've been really busy with work - which is probably a good distraction!

fox glad your injecting is going well! I don't find the stimming one painful but the cetrotide I'm on really stings! When is your scan to see how things are developing?

meadow glad your injecting is going well too. I've only begun to feel tired today - otherwise I'm not too bad either! When is your scan?

emma yay for AF! I always find AF takes forever to arrive when you're waiting for it but 3 days didn't seem too bad!

Hope everyone is ok - scan for me tomorrow! X

DanNica · 31/08/2017 15:57

Hi all,

I'm due to have my initial consultation tomorrow (which I believe is a 2 hour consultation). Can anyone advise if you began treatment pretty soon after this first appointment, or is there usually a long wait in between? I feel like I have been waiting forever for this first appointment and I really don't want to get my hopes up.

Thank you xx

Icedgem124 · 31/08/2017 16:27

Hi DanNica i guess it depends on different factors. What tests have you had so far? I think average tests include bloods, semenalysis and a HSG to check your tubes. Different clinics do different things! I found these tests took about 8 months on the NHS. All of the results meant we need IVF/ICSI and we were booked on the next avaliable cycle & for us there wasn't a waiting list but again that depends upon the clinic. Hope your initial consultation goes well x

DanNica · 31/08/2017 17:16

We have had a number of tests carried out so far - bloods, HSG and then most recently a laparoscopy where it was discovered that I have a unicornuate uterus (basically only one tube working). So this, combined with a low sperm count, meant that we were referred for IVF. Our first appointment at the fertility clinic was for more bloods and semen sample. So this is our initial consultation at the fertility clinic where we were told we would be given our schedule for treatment. I'm so nervous but I'm finnding it really difficult to get excited because I don't want to get my hopes up and then it fail! X

Ging78 · 31/08/2017 17:29

HI ladies

Ive been reading and thinking of you all but wanted to wait until I had time to reply.

Icedgem and meadowlark I do think we're at the same place more or less. Had my scan Wednesday and they seemed pleased and started me on cetrotide. Have another scan tomorrow am and they will decide if I'm having ec on Monday or Wednesday. It's going really quickly now. Hope yours is all going well. Fingers crossed.

Fox hope your injections are going well.

Emma and DanNica good luck with it all. Hope it starts quickly and goes well.

Does anyone have any experience of ec under general anesthesic? I'm guessing I will need to take the day after off too. I teach and travel 1.5 hours each way. Surely I couldn't go to work the day after?

My boss know all about my journey and said to do what I need to do.

Ging

meadowlark3 · 31/08/2017 19:24

Fox congrats on the successful stabbing!

Beherenow hope the tablets are not causing too many side effects! I think you must be due a scan soon?
Emma hurrah for your AF. Good luck with your scan tomorrow and let us know how you get on!
Icedgem Glad you are keeping busy! Good luck with your scan tomorrow-fingers crossed for you! Please do post an update.

Danica welcome. I believe the wait may depend on your clinic and funding. For me, once I'd had the hycosy and DH had his SA with the fertility clinic, we were able to start within a month (just had to wait for my period to begin.)

Ging Fab news about your scan, and good luck tomorrow. Please do let us know how you get on! I've had a a similar procedure done under anesthesia and was in a bit of a daze the next day. I've also read here that lots of women are quite sore after EC, so I'd say take the extra day off. Fab that your boss is so supportive!

I'm doing fine, DH is really enjoying the injecting Confused I've been quite tired and had a bit of nausea and headaches but otherwise feeling alright. Scan next week, nervous but trying to relax a bit.

Got everything crossed for all of the scans tomorrow! Sending good thoughts to all. xx

Fox23 · 31/08/2017 19:32

Hello,
Ging- I agree, you do need to take time off after EC. Not that I have any experience, but only through reading mumsnet. I certainly will.
My next scan is on Sunday to start Cetrotide. I'm on short protocol so didn't neeed to downreg.
This morning I thought hoorayyy no sideffects... and then I felt like I was hit on the back of my head with a plank of timber. I can't descibe the headache... then I got home after the longest day at work 6am-5pm) and got so grumpy with my husband that he is now even more grumpy than me 😧
Hopefully it will get better.
DanNica- during my first consultation with nurse I had to have all different tests done (although I already had them done before being referred for IVF) then I had to come back for another consultation, scan and doctor consultation where it was decided based on results the best approach. For me it was short protocol. All I had to do was wait for my period, come in for scan and start injections. That was over a month ago, as my period never started... until only few days ago. So, now I'm back on track.
Of course if you have to have long protocol, it will take longer. All in all, it's all pretty quick from then on.
Emma- I'm so glad for your AF! I know how amazing that may feel!!
Ok, half hour and time for 2nd injection!

Scotslass01 · 31/08/2017 20:35

Hey all,
Wow it's hard to keep up ha!
I'd like to echo the positive comments from Meadow & Fox regarding everyone progressing. Its a step by step process and it's fabby hearing everyone taking the steps and moving closer to finding out if Lady Luck has been on their side.

I'm patiently waiting for AF to show up. I usually start spotting about 3 days before so if all goes as normal that will be in a couple of days.

Fox - I that's exactly how I've been feeling after my down reg injection. It's been horrible. I think I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel though and it's starting to ease finally.

Danica - welcome. Nice to have you on our journey.

Ging78 · 01/09/2017 18:05

HI ladies

Hope all is going well with injections etc.

How did you scan go icedgem? Mine left less positive it was another lady doing it and she struggled to see bits. She blamed my bowel for being in the way and my retroflexed uterus. She counted less than he has on wed. Some are getting bigger but loads are still under ten. Ec will now be either wed or fri.

Also struggling with tiredness, my head feel fuzzy and feeling emotional. Possibly cos the scan didn't feel so positive. Another nurse was very positive and said it was all going well.

Hope the rest of you are doing well and are ready for the weekend.

Ging

meadowlark3 · 01/09/2017 19:39

Fox hope injection 2 went well and good luck for your scan on Sun! I've heard the recommendation to drink 2L of water daily to avoid headaches, maybe you've already tried that?
Scots hope you're feeling better soon and AF shows! When are you due on?
Ging sorry the scan wasn't what you hoped. I'm also feeling tired, fuzzy, and emotional, it's rubbish! Do you know how many follicles they did see?

Sending good thoughts to all for the weekend. Hope everyone has some headache-free and relaxing days. xx

Afternoon ladies!
After outofthisworld head ache on Thursday today was totally opposite- I was like steam engine- full of energy and focused... these injections are just so confusing. I don't recognise myself anymore. I'm glad my assistant knows, or he would think I'm weird. Maybe it's the 2l water that helped...
Ging- hopefully next scan will be good again, sounds like you didn't get good nurse. Will you have another scan pre EC?
Meadow- how are you feeling? What day is your scan and what is it for? To check follicles or lining? What's the next step for you?
Scot- any update on AF?

Ging78 · 01/09/2017 20:07

Hi

Thanks ladies for your kind words. I do think it was more about her lack of experience than my insides. There was a lot of poking though and she really wrote off the little ones. There were 8 over ten and other small ones. She suggested that I need to up my menopur dose but my consultant reviewed it and didn't contact me to say I needed more.

I have another scan on Monday and then ec Wednesday or Friday.

Meadowlark I hope you're feeling a bit better now for the weekend.

Fox loving the sound of the energy rush. Sounds fab

DanNica · 01/09/2017 20:20

Hi all,

We've been for our initial consultation today and were finally given our schedule for treatment. My Baseline scan is booked in for the end of September. Does anyone else feel worried about getting excited?

We had a positive consultation, with hubbies sperm count finally normal, however the consultant mentioned that I'm showing signs of PCOS ...... Just my luck.

Hope everyone is doing ok xxx

Icedgem124 · 01/09/2017 20:56

Hi everyone sorry for delayed reply - DH took me out for dinner as I didn't have the best scan either! Well it wasn't bad but it wasn't what I expected which threw me a bit (you'd think I'd be used to that by now)!

Follicles growing slowly - I've got 5 over 10mm and 12 9mm and under! At the previous scan they said they felt confident id make it to 18mm today but it wasn't meant to be today either!

My lining is growing nicely which is good! I just want these follicles to get there! Nevermind! I'm booked in for a re scan on Monday and we will see from there!

I just feel heavy and bloated now! Fingers crossed for Monday I guess!

Hope everyone is ok - I will try and catch up individually in a bit!

Scotslass01 · 01/09/2017 21:33

Ging - I'm really sorry to hear things didn't go well today. Don't lose hope just yet. All you need is one wee belter of an egg. PMA for the next one.

Meadow - due Tuesday/Wednesday for fingers crossed 🤞

Fox - so glad your feeling better.

Danica - I feel exactly the same. I want to get excited but at the same time trying not to get ahead of myself.

Iced - awww man, a mixed bag but focus on the positives. Sorry to hear you feel bloated. Let's hope Monday is a better day for you.

My headache is finally starting to lift a bit. Still have an annoying ache behind my eyes.
PMT is rearing its ugly head uhoh! Ha
