Clomid prescription but I am ovulating

Hi, my consultant has prescribed me clomid today but CD21 scans have shown that I am ovulating - presence of luteal body. My CD21 progesterone is on the low side (28) but I can evidence ovulation via the scan. Has anyone else been prescribed clomid but also has ovulation confirmed. I'm not sure what the benefit is?

Me! I started on 50mg and now I'm on 100mg. It's the last ditch attempt before referring to ivf etc as far as I know. Obviously it doesn't work for everyone but my googling research leads me to believe that it's quite successful for a great raft of people who then dont need ivf or similar. What are you starting on?

LemonSqueezy0 · 25/02/2017 21:24

I should add/clarify- I've always ovulated so in the same boat as you. They hope it will solve whatever the issue is, as we've been trying for so long.

Avocadosmoothie · 25/02/2017 21:43

Hi Lemon! I've been started on 50mg, second tablet today! Did you have scans as you were taking the 50mg to see if it had an effect?

No, I only realised that others had scans by an insane amount of googling I do. 50mg didn't work for me, so they started me on 100mg. It was my first month this month and it was horrific! Very painful ovulation this time. I'll be testing in 4/5 days but I don't have any symptoms yet. Are you having scans?

Avocadosmoothie · 25/02/2017 22:15

Well, when the consultant prescribed me he did mention scanning but the nurse never booked me in. I'll ring back on Monday. Could be that you only need the scan when you're on a higher dosage. Do you think you will go to ivf after this?

Avocadosmoothie · 25/02/2017 22:16

Hopefully this will work and you won't have to of course!!

If you can have the scan, I'd definitely recommend it. We will go onto the ivf waiting list, if these next 3 months of 100mg don't work. There's apparently no reason we haven't been been successful so far, which is frustrating. Have you been trying long? Fingers crossed the Clomid works for you. I guess you haven't had any symptoms yet?

Avocadosmoothie · 25/02/2017 23:15

Fingers crossed for you too! Well I'm only on my second ever tablet so three more to go then wait for ovulation. No symptoms of taking clomid though. I have seen some posts about side effects - did you have any?

Hi, I did the first ever set I took at 50mg. Hot flashes and quite emotional and fairly angry. Then not much for the other 2 sets of 50mg. This is my first set of 100mg and Oh my god! It wasn't so much when I was taking it, although I did have some hot flushes, but when I ovulated I felt it all so much stronger and painfully. Felt very (over) stimulated.its supposed to be a good sign but I won't know for 4/5 days. Ive always ovulated like clockwork and can feel it happening but this month was that, but on steroids! I don't think having symptoms from Clomid is an indication of whether or not its worked though.

Avocadosmoothie · 26/02/2017 08:40

We're the hot flashes and emotions on the 5 days that you were taking clomid or throughout the month? 100mg sound scary but hopefully it's what you need and this is your month! You'll have to let me know Smile

I had the hot flashes during the Clomid days on 50mg but noticed them all random days including after Ovulation on the 100mg. I'm hoping this works for us.... What day are you on? Good luck, let me know how you are getting on Smile

Colabottles64 · 26/02/2017 20:33

Hey ladies, quick q - was it prescribed by your GPs or after you were referred onwards? I'm struggling to time a flipping 21 day bloods correctly for three cycles now, trying 14 months for #2 and nothing yet. I think I'm ovulating based on getting a surge on my opk each month, but wondering if Clomid worth a go as I'm thinking ivf towards end of summer if no baby on board by then x

Avocadosmoothie · 27/02/2017 06:55

Hi Cola, my GP didn't prescribe. She referred me to a fertility specialist but it's a 10 month wait in my area so I decided to go private. The consultant prescribed for me.

I've read that getting a surge doesn't always indicate you've ovulated, that's why they do the other tests. My consultant prescribed the Clomid for me, after my GP referred me. We waited about 8/9 months for that first appointment. Good luck

Toolchest13 · 27/02/2017 07:44

Hello ladies
Success story here. Ovulating fine, tubes clear, even a male infertility factor identified but then pregnant on my third round of clomid. My little boy is now 2

Avocadosmoothie · 27/02/2017 07:48

Great story, congrats too! Smile

Hi I asked my consultant to prescribe me clomid for 6 months while I waited for my ivf cycle. I already ovulated fine but I wanted an extra egg or two to boost our chances as we have male factor. Unfortunately it didn't work for us although it did make me realise the extra eggs so I'm starting IVF this month. Good luck.

Avocadosmoothie · 27/02/2017 15:23

Good luck gee up!

I've been trying for 13 months without result, is it worth asking my GP to refer me?

Avocadosmoothie · 27/02/2017 16:56

Have you seen a GP at all in that 13 months? If not I would say book an appointment, definitely.

Thanks avocado
I thought my progesterone was low too (Not so much fertility related but because I was getting acne at certain times of the month) I asked a lady in Holland and Barret if they had something to help this and she recommended I try wild yam cream (same ingredients as progesterone cream apparently) but they didn't sell it. When I googled it I found it is used for infertility purposes too. I tried it and maybe it helped with getting pregnant. I'll never know! It isn't that expensive though so maybe worth a try

Bue · 27/02/2017 17:10

I always ovulated but my ovulation was late in my cycle and my luteal phase was short (like 8 days!). Progesterone was also in the 20s which I was told was fine Hmm but I don't think it was. I got pregnant on my third cycle of Clomid - it moved O up to day 13ish and I suppose just gave me a "better" quality of O. I also used the 'Now' natural progesterone cream and did acupuncture. Who knows what did the trick!

Bue · 27/02/2017 17:11

Oh, and I never had any symptoms on Clomid!

PopsicleBopsicle · 27/02/2017 17:15

@avocadosmoothie I haven't seen a doctor yet as assumed they would fob me off as I'm overweight and already have 1 DD. I have lost 10% of my body weight thought which is supposed to do the trick

Colabottles64 · 27/02/2017 17:44

Thanks avocado, got consultant in 2 weeks (private, couldn't bear the wait) so will mention it then
