Clomid... Can anyone help?

Hi all, after trying to conceive for a while now without success, i went to my doctor who told me i had pcos, she has referred me to a gynecologist, she told me that the most probable outcome is that i would be put on clomid. I have read success stories about it working for people who are irregular, but never about anyone in my situation... i do not ovulate at all and haven't had a period for well over a year, me and my partner are desperate for a child and just wanted to see if anyone else has been in the same or similar situation as me.

Hi Whit! I have just taken my first ever clomid pill tonite! I came off my pill last august (after 16 years on it) after we got married and I haven't been ovulating at all since.
Even tho I wasn't ovulating I was having a one day period every 28days ?!??
Anyways saw a dr who put me on clomid, starting days 2-6, 50mg.
Hopefully this will kick start my ovaries into action! When are you starting?

WhitMarie · 04/05/2014 11:54

Hey blondie :)
I see the gyne on Wednesday so hopefully should be given it then but i don't know yet as clomid and metformin have only been suggested by my gp, but not said for definite. I have also read that some doctors have restricted people from using clomid due to their weight was just wondering if you have heard anything about that also?
Hope all goes well for you with clomid!

I have 2 clomid babies and didn't ovulate on my own with cycle length getting on for 250days ish. Theres more tests involved prior to getting the prescription but it worked first time for me both times.

WhitMarie · 04/05/2014 15:37

aww thats brilliant gives me more hope! could i ask what tests they had to do before they gave it you?

Just jumping on...Petal has given me hope too. No AF since coming off the pill, withdrawal bleed in September. Just awaiting results of hycosy - if tubes are clear I think I'll be given clomid. If not clear no idea.

Whit the tests I have had are various bloods, internal scan and the hycosy. DH has had a sample analysed.

petalsandstars · 05/05/2014 08:35

Had to have the x ray dye through fallopian tubes which is a bit unpleasant but if no blockages I then had clomid 50mg - back to drs for bloods to see if you have ovulated and internal scans just prior to that to see if there are any eggs maturing.

They didn't think I'd ov'd the first time but my cycle turned out to be 35 rather than 28 days on it and I had DD1 as a result. Also had monitoring by internal scan to check she's in the right place at about 6-7 weeks.

DD2 I just took myself and caught first time again.

thankyou so much for all your information was getting pretty worried that it was never going to happen for me but after seeing such great results helps a lot! my partner is booked in for a sample analysis but there is a 2 month waiting list, ive already had countless blood tests and an external ultrasound... also waited over a month for this appointment on wednesday but feels like ive been waiting a lifetime! hopefully the ball will start rolling and the tests will come back all okay! i dont mind any test they have to do unpleasent or not as the end result would mean more than the world! also with a clomid baby is the pregnancy monitored more than usual? thanks again :)

Hi after 3 years of test and scans and drs appointments I've finally got some answers and I've now just finished my first course of clomid I'm feeling really nervous about it as I've read so many diff story's about the outcome I'm just trying to not get my hopes up that it's going to work. I had to loose 2 stone before they would even give me clomid. I've got pcos and an under active thyroid. I've never really had a regular period and even when I did have one there was never any sign of ovulation. I'm glad I've found a place where I'm not the only one going through all of this. All my family and friends have got children or having them I'm starting to feel like it will never happen for us after 3 years of getting know where

WhitMarie · 06/05/2014 10:26

Hey Caz , really happy for you that things are finally starting for you after your long wait! The thing im worried most about is being told to go off and lose weight ive done it before but my weight is so unpredictable i cant stay at a same weight for more than a month! im now about 235-240 lbs in your experience do you think the would tell me to lose the weight first? And i know exactly what you mean all of my family and friends have children too and also have a sister in law who is currently pregnant, makes it feel like its never gonna happen but hope is all we have! Good luck with your clomid journey!

No extra monitoring once discharged from the fertility clinic at the hospital, due to timings I ended up with an extra scan at 10ish weeks before my usual 12week so that was comforting but I don't think that is usual. Good luck Smile

Cazm23 · 06/05/2014 11:01

I've always struggled with my weight as well I was about 215lb and was told to get down to 180 or lower if I could! I managed to diet and get down to 187lbs but keeping it off is a battle I've not put any weight on or lost any for months now but as I have a more active job now I'm hoping I can keep it off that way but I lost inches from my waist and the dr still gave me my tablets as he could see I was losing weight and my bmi had gone down a lot as well. I think the dr has a lot to do with it as well the first dr I saw was horrible and I thought I'd never get on clomid, I then went to see my GP and he gave me some fat binding tablets that really helped me but they do have some very unpleasant effects if you eat fat! I'd recommend them but only if you don't eat any fat at all trust me I cheated one night and had a curry and the next day was very unpleasant for me I can only explain it as what looks like orange oil running out of me I never ate any fat after that but on the plus side they really did work and help me loose weight fast.

Cazm23 · 06/05/2014 11:08

I've got told that I'll have an early scan if I get pregnant to make sure the pregnancy is viable, check for multiples and everything's ok at around 8wks

WhitMarie · 06/05/2014 11:24

so the weight thing is going to be an issue then, thought it was going to be so better get my healthy head on! thankyou for all of your information at least i know what to expect now and wont be disappointed if i get told to go away and lose weight first, ive been fobbed off before by doctors not even referring me to the gyne and just saying come back when you're slimmer! thanks again :)

blondie138 · 06/05/2014 13:04

Grrrr doctors can be so frustrating! It's so easy for them to sit there saying come back in a year/when you're slimmer....firstly being male they don't understand how all-consuming the desire for a baby is, and secondly it's not them who becomes obsessed with counting days, pee'ing on sticks having sex! It totally takes over your life and is all you can think about! That's why this place is so great, thanks to the lady's above who shared their success stories, it gives me so much hope!

Good luck with your appt tomorrow, write down a list of questions you want to ask and take it with you as everything went out of my head once I got in, and then I kicked myself!

Let us know how it goes x

WhitMarie · 06/05/2014 17:04

Thankyou very much for all your help and support i will be making a list as long as my arm haha. just hope that i have a doctor who is understanding and will actually do something and be more of a help than just adding to the stress that i already have! Will let you know how i get on hopefully it will be good news! x
