Clomid... Can anyone help?

Hi all, after trying to conceive for a while now without success, i went to my doctor who told me i had pcos, she has referred me to a gynecologist, she told me that the most probable outcome is that i would be put on clomid. I have read success stories about it working for people who are irregular, but never about anyone in my situation... i do not ovulate at all and haven't had a period for well over a year, me and my partner are desperate for a child and just wanted to see if anyone else has been in the same or similar situation as me.

Just got my bloods back and was positive for ovulation was 35 not sure what that means tho! So guess it's just a waiting game now to see if AF tuns up! Just not sure when I'm due on tho as I don't have regular cycles so don't no when I should do a test?? my boobs have been hurting me for a few days and are abit swollen it's a diff kind of pain to when I'm on the as that pain don't seem to lat very long and this pain is more or less all the time. Only thing I can recommend is those tablets they really did help me but like I said they have the side effects that are not pleasent I lost a stone in a month with them so it happens fast then slows down abit so was losing 3 to 4 lbs a week

Late to this but just to say my clomid baby (dd) is now 22 months (conceived after I was prescribed clomid as I didn't have a single cycle in 18 months after coming off the pill) & I'm typing this while pumping milk for my 7 week old completely naturally conceived ds. Good luck on your journeys

Hi I was diagnosed with PCOS sometime ago. In addition to being put on Clomid I also had an operation whereby they drill holes into your ovaries. For reasons no one seems to understand this procedure reduces some of the symptoms of PCOS eg sugar imbalance it also helps with regulating your menstral cycle. I now have a lovely dd (10). Do ask about the operation as it might be a better option than Clomid. Also I found that after having a child the PCOS symptoms got a lot better in that for 18 months after dd was born I had no periods but when they eventually started again I actually went to a 36 day cycle which was much better than my previous cycle which could be anything from 30 to 120 days. Good Luck a PCOS diagnosis is not usually the end of the road as far as conception is concerned

Muskey I've not heard of an operation I've also got pcos and all I've been told is weight loss and clomid are my first options then ivf if the clomid fails.

Muskey · 22/05/2014 14:59

Hi Cazm. The operation I had was laparoscopic ovarian drilling. As I mentioned the gynacologist drills a number of holes in both ovaries. I had this done in 2001 but may be this is not something that is widely offered now due to cuts etc. I would ask your specialist if this is available. For me it was a life changer I stopped having really bad drops in blood sugar and made my periods much more regular.

Cazm23 · 22/05/2014 15:14

My blood sugar has always been ok so maybe that's why it's not been mentioned to me or like you say could be cut backs!! I've only just started on clomid and seems to be working as I've ovulated for the first time ever! Got my results back today to say it was 35 so just the waiting game now to see if AF comes

Muskey · 22/05/2014 15:39

Wishing you all the best. Please keep posting to let people know how you get on. Take care muskey

Cazm23 · 22/05/2014 15:49

Hi how is everyone getting on? This is going to sound odd but I think I'm pregnant but instead of sickness I'm getting really bad cramping it wakes me up every night at 3am ish it's like I need a poo but can't go so I have to strain for ages till I either pass wind or have a poo then when I do go it's really soft so I can't under stand what's going on or could this just be a side effect of me ovulating this month!!? Sorry that prob tmi lol I'm just really confused. AF isn't due till wed so trying to hold of on doing a test yet

WhitMarie · 27/05/2014 16:16

Hey caz... If anyone knows more about your body and any unusual changes its you! If you didn't experience what you are doing now from when you have ovulated in the past then you never know! If i was you i would do the test on Wednesday or Thursday so then you can know for sure, as for the tablets for weight loss may have a look into them as for some reason im really struggling to shift the weight and at the moment it seems impossible to loose the 2 n half stone by September! Hope all goes well for you and will keep my fingers crossed! :) x

Well AF has turned up a day early! :( bit disappointed but got to try and stay possative I guess :) how are you doing? Might be worth having a chat with you GP and just mention about the tablets.

WhitMarie · 28/05/2014 19:28

Just stay positive as you say, just think of it this way you are even closer now than you was before!:) Ive been to my gp and been referred to a weight loss clinic, been there and done it before, just a load of thin people telling you you need to lose weight! get no where anymore so just looks like its up to me!

That's crap my gp just gave me the tablets but then again my gp is really nice and understanding. Keep telling my self that the first month was just the kick start as first time I've ovulated so at least we know the clomid works.

WhitMarie · 31/05/2014 20:49

guess you're lucky lol very hard to find a good gp anymore! and yeah its fantastic that its helped you to ovulate, so just keep thinking about what can happen next time! fingers crossed for you!

I was in your situation and now have 4 Dc. I had to go up to a pretty high dose with first and therefore needed close monitoring.

The cysts disappear during pregnancy so you are fertile when your periods restart. Two of my kids were concieved without clomid.

The book "Taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler is a really useful read.

WhitMarie · 01/06/2014 12:26

hey carrie,
its great to hear of people who have been in the same situation it gives me much more hope than i ever had before! and thanks will have a look at the book! :)
