Egg Donors....gather here!

I have started this thread as a little support thing for all ladies either donating eggs or thinking about donating.......I'll start with my story.....

I was first interested when I had DS, I am absolutely sure I don't want anymore children, as I am only 33 I thought about donating, anyway I looked into and advertised myself on another forum and got an email from a lady who was interested, I had all the tests and found my fertility to be quite healthy........fast forward to now, I have had the drug Prostap and start my stimulation drugs on the 24th of this month, we're looking into the egg harvest happening on the 7th November, thewn it's down to luck and the magic of nature :)

I did egg donation a couple of months ago, but won't be able to do it again as I have very low AMH. I responded very poorly to the drugs and only developed three follicles. Two eggs were collected and thankfully both fertilised and were transferred.

Unfortunately, although she ot a positive, my friend's pregnancy didn't develop.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if my body was able. I didnt find it invasive at all really, and it gave me a great feeling to be doing something for my friend.

That's a shame it didn't develope, I'm not finding it too invasive and although I have had some strange side effects with the Prostap I'm feeling ok :)

hiya, I am thinking of donating at some point. However, I would like another child myself and I think that you can't donate unless you're sure you've finished your own family... is that right?

would love to watch this thread and see how you all get on and what it's really like going through it.

We did a flare protocol which meant I did stim drugs from day three of my cycle with no down regulation.

I have down regged before for frozen embryo transfers when I was a surrogate and found it really unpleasant so was keen to avoid it if at all possible but would have done it if the clinic had recommended it.

Which clinic are you using? I have done drug cycles with both Coventry and Salisbury, and did my egg donation with the Wessex in Southampton.

I'm currently using the Herts and Essex Clinic, but next cycle I do will be with tthe Salisbury or Wessex, I'm in Bournemouth

I'm just looking into being a donor. I have always had an un-explicable urge to be a surrogate however health problems in my third and final pregnancy will prevent me from doing this my best friend had 3 lots of IVF before she fell pregnant and I would do anything to help people in a similar situation to hers.

Any potential donors still about? I think my baby is too young to start (9months) but I'm starting to think about it and read up. I really want to be a surrogate too so wondering if i can donate eggs first to see how it goes then go on to be a surrogate.

Hi! I have my scan on tuesday, start injections that day and hoping for egg extraction soon.

Elsies9 I am the polar opposite of you im afraid. Pale, red headed and green eyes!
Natural baby, My son was 9m when I first started talking about it with some people and he is 18m now there is no rush.

I donated in May last year to a relative who now has a gorgeous 5 month old DD. I did it in the UK before we emigrated which was pretty stressful!
We were very lucky, it worked first time!
Extra good news is that I've just found out I'm pregnant so we know it didn't affect my fertility!

Interested to see this thread. I have 2 IVF 'babies' (5 and 2) myself, and have donated eggs once already. I'm thinking of donating again, I'm going to give the clinic a ring next week and see how we set the ball rolling :-)

they use a fine needle i think it goes through your stomach? i cant remember exactly, but you are sedated for the procedure :)

i am starting the process propelry in the new year, wanted to to it earlier but family commitments and xmas got in the way!

4Mad, they extract the eggs vaginally! Under sedation, lasts about 20 mins. I donated mine 2 weeks ago

yes i thought that after i posted, i think i was thinking of the hormone injections you give yourself, which most people inject into the fat on their tummy!

Hope you don't mind an ex-recipient butting in, just to say a huge thanks to all of you - as I can't say it in person to my dds' donors!

My 8 and 5 year old dds, dh and I often talk about the 'donor ladies' our two had/have, and how we hope they are happy and wish we could meet them to say hello, thanks, and did you know how lucky you made us feel. We think of them as extended family

So I expect someone out there wishes they could say it to each one of you....

I'm new to forums so I don't know if anyone will see this but I'm writing just in case.

I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure aged 20 and now aged 25 have graduated and married. My husband and I are really eager to start our family, we have always know it will be hard but it is our dream to have children together. To this i would need donor eggs. We are signed up to start with Bourne-Hall near Cambridge but there is a long waiting list unfortunately, so we are hoping that someone would help us. There is plenty of information on their website about becoming a donor and if anyone was interested we would absolutely love to hear from you.

Sorry to ask - very new to this - but does anyone know if the age limit of 35 is an absolute? Are there any 'allowances' outside of that? Reason for asking is that my sister may have to use donor eggs and I'd love to help - but I'm 39. Have had my family so would do absolutely anything to help her have one too. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Mandy - don't believe there is an 'upper' limit but it may depend on the clinic. Obviously at the age of 39, the chances are 'reduced' compared to if you were under 35 (sorry...that sounds harsh ). If you want to do it - go for it. Best to get moving asap and push your sister/partner with the process. From the time we started to egg collection (including tests, compulsory counseling, treatment) was 6 months, just because of faffing about and waiting times, even with a known donor. I hear that is 'good' compared to some clinics.

I'm thinking of doing this, though currently pg with dc4 so be a while before i can, just wanted to know if its a difficult process, if i would be able to do it locally as in Norfolk and what expenses are like if i had to travel, or take holiday from work etc

Just wanted to say that anyone who is willing to donate eggs is giving such an amazing gift! I thank you all.

Like jrosea, I was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure fairly young. My beautiful sister donated eggs & I gave birth to my DD last July. My sister maintains that it's the best thing that she's ever done (she's not wrong there) and that it was an honour to be given such an opportunity. What a humbling attitude. She offered to donate just 5 days after my diagnosis.

Hurrah for lovely donors!
