I know I shouldn't be flippant about this and I know it shouldn't be important blah blah but have you seen the barnet on that police woman who talked at the press conference about the hunt for Raoul Moat?

I swear my jaw dropped. I've never seen anything like it.

Poor Sue Sim, while all that was going on last week the topic of conversation where I work with both staff and customers was "that womans hair" I thought she looked like Dennis the menaces mum, my friend said she looked like Wendolene from Wallace and Gromit and a customer thought she looked like Alice from the Vicar of Dibley, hope she now realises what she looks like and gets a decent haircut!

Morloth · 12/07/2010 12:33

Perhaps she likes her hair like that and doesn't give a fuck what anyone else thinks?

Spidermama · 12/07/2010 14:11

Has she back-combed that top bit up to give it height?

poor bloody woman - whatever happened to the MN sisterhood, the unwritten rule that says women should not HAVE to conform to what celeb culture tells us is "with it", beautiful, acceptable, or what men expect etc etc

no one would be saying anything at all about looks if it had been a fella in her place - talk about double standards

who gives a damn about her hair or anyone elses - actually i would have been somewhat concerned if she HAD appeared looking all glam - then no doubt some of you would have been accusing her of
a) not taking her job/the dire situation seriously

OR
b) sleeping her way to the top!

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 12/07/2010 17:53

That's rubbish, PeedOff - Donald Trump's hair is the butt of just as many jokes. Do you think many on here know what businesses he controls? No, probably not, but I bet they know about his combover.

prozacfairy · 12/07/2010 18:32

Charlie Chalk. She looks like charlie chalk with drag make up. God I wish I'd thought of that look first....

Spidermama · 12/07/2010 20:01

Good God peevedoffwithnits it has nothing to do with her not looking 'glam' or 'celeb-like'. I know I know about the MN sisterhood and I know we shouldn't but Good God woman we're only human FFS and when we mere mortals see something which takes our breath away it's only natural we're keen to share the experience with others.

I most certainly would comment similarly on the attire or barnet fair of a man. This is not a feminist issue. I don't descriminate on the grounds of sex.

For me it It has nothing to do with the sex of the person here but rather the sheer scale of the faux pas and I believe Sue Sim maybe has set a new yardstick which makes her case noteworthy and proper to discuss.

Who's Charlie Chalk?

Quite a lively thread about dear Sue on Betfair(male dominated) containing many classics,my personal favourite being :-

"Has she had the full op yet or has she still got a willy?"

That said there is something mildly discomforting about watching a pack of women ripping one of their own to bits.Afterall surely the important fact here is that she's managed to stick her 1970's laquered hair-do through the glass ceiling that is the police force.Looks aren't that important.....or are they?

ttalloo · 12/07/2010 23:29

But we're not ripping her to bits - just her gloriously awful hair.

And marvelling a bit at how anyone could choose that look and stick with it for decades.

We would do the same to a man - hell, DH and I goggled at the pink suede shoes, tight pink jeans and blue shirt worn by Eddie Jordan at the British Grand Prix on Sunday. Which would have looked dodgy enough on a woman, frankly.

prozacfairy · 13/07/2010 06:34

spidermama- can't do links for some reason try google. really crap obscure cartoon I remember from my childhood

esselle · 13/07/2010 08:50

Ha ha I saw this womans hair on the news here in Australia last week and had a chuckle too. Very dated style indeed!

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 13/07/2010 18:38

I'm not ripping her to shreds - I'm full of admiration for the woman who's beaten men to the top job in the force. I just also happen to think her hair is shit, but can easily separate the 2

Snobear4000 · 13/07/2010 21:07

Bless. I saw said barnet on the telly and actually yelled, "COME IN HERE AND SEE THIS, NOW". Poor DW thought there had been another 9/11 or something.

Apparently it was something much worse.

escorchio · 13/07/2010 21:14

Oh, she looks just like my lovely lovely godmother in that photo. If she is anything like as fabulous, good luck to her, I think she's going to need it.

claig · 13/07/2010 22:12

"What's with that Northumbrian Police woman's hairdo? I'm aghast!!"

If you're aghast, spare a thought for the local constabulary, they have to witness it everyday.

porcamiseria · 14/07/2010 15:44

very very 80s!!!!

BettySuarez · 14/07/2010 22:43

It's just weird to think that every morning she gets up, TONGS her hair and then (probably) applies a liberal dose of Silverkrin to keep it all in place.

VERY 1980's

equinox · 15/07/2010 16:01

Think her hairdresser should take early retirement lol I have been amazed at her hair too surely she must know she looks utterly ridiculous.

You would think one of her friends would tell her??

jangly · 15/07/2010 16:16

Gordon Bennett! Is this all people think about these days?! What about the fantastic career she's made for herself? You might think briefly in passing "my God, that hair" but bother to write about it on a forum??? Pathetic.

lovechoc · 17/07/2010 19:53

I can't believe someone has started a thread on this - but you are right - that is some hair do. I was mesmerised watching the BBC news last week and just couldn't take my eyes off that hairdo.

The eyeshadow was something else too..

claig · 17/07/2010 22:56

"Gordon Bennett! Is this all people think about these days?!"

Gordon Bennett is exactly what I thought when I saw the hairdo
