I know I shouldn't be flippant about this and I know it shouldn't be important blah blah but have you seen the barnet on that police woman who talked at the press conference about the hunt for Raoul Moat?

I swear my jaw dropped. I've never seen anything like it.

We've been -bitching- commenting on it on the Tyneside gunman thread. She needs to be told!

johnrat · 09/07/2010 19:16

Yes, I'm sorry to be so sexist but that hair "style" is totally weird. (She seems to be doing a Donald Trump for women.)
Actually, I've just been watching Channel 4 news and another woman police officer seems to have another strange style. Perhaps it's something to do with the north-east?

DH and I nothiced it too. We also noticed that she bears a striking resemblance to Alice Tinker.

WarrenPeace · 09/07/2010 19:27

this is MY THREAD SPIDEY

janajos · 09/07/2010 19:28

My husband has never (in all the years I've known him) commented on anyone's appearance. He was shocked by this woman's hair - it is truly remarkable. I did wonder though, in the interests of fairness, whether she had just taken off one of those horrid police hats, and maybe hadn't had a chance to wash it for a day or two.....?

whomovedmychocolate · 09/07/2010 19:29

Poor woman - she's working hard, in a sexist environment, trying to make it while looking feminine and you lot come and take the piss out of her

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 09/07/2010 19:34

thank heavens I am wearing my tena lady!

Disenchanted3 · 09/07/2010 19:36

Agree with WMMC.

BiscuitsandBaileys · 09/07/2010 19:42

Same here janajos!
DH and I saw her on the news last night, Dh said she looks like she's been wearing a baseball cap for several days

whomovedmychocolate · 09/07/2010 20:31

And yet there's no 'and the bloke who was sitting next to her - could he not have spared five minutes to shave?'

Meh.

You'd all be up in arms if I said 'I saw a woman on a bus today and she had a frightful haircut and bad seventies make up' and rightly so.

JellyBabyLady · 09/07/2010 20:39

Its Lady Tottington

Showmeheaven · 11/07/2010 21:25

My guess is this woman is suffering from thinning hair. She has backcombed to give it more volume. She is a senior police officer doing an important job, she's not a model and doesn't have to look good for her job, give her a break ....

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/07/2010 21:29

I'm so glad someone else had the balls to start a thread about this! It is a pretty impressive hair-do, that's for sure, in the same way that this person has me wondering "how do they do that"?

sanfairyann · 11/07/2010 21:29

how is this news? agree with wmmc

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/07/2010 21:33

It's not news - it's idle gossip, of the kind often seen on MN. How many people admire Donald Trump for his business acumen, compared to the number that go "look at that hair"

sanfairyann · 11/07/2010 21:43

can it make its sad little way back to the (sneers) idle gossip thread for heat readers then please

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/07/2010 21:46

If you don't like a thread, don't post on it

ttalloo · 11/07/2010 21:50

sanfairyann, of course this hairstyle isn't news, but it is eye-poppingly ghastly and therefore worthy of comment. I will go so far as to say that Sue Simm may quite possibly be exceptional to have risen as high as she has despite the dodgiest hairdo and make up seen since the eighties.

But personally, I've been wondering how she gets a helmet on her head.

Goblinchild · 11/07/2010 21:52

I think it's a good idea to post and say what a shallow thread this is.
The fact that she's got a top position in a notoriously sexist profession is outweighed by her lack of stylists, beauticians and general ability to wear eyeshadow properly.
Good to see you have your priorities very clearly ordered ladies.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 11/07/2010 21:57

Did anyone say that they didn't admire her ability, drive, and determination? Nope. I think we're perfectly capable of acknowledging that she is obviously incredibly capable, whilst still remaining in awe of her hairdo.

ttalloo · 11/07/2010 21:57

Um, I think it's naive to think that appearance doesn't matter. Or isn't of interest. Really, did you not look at her hair and wonder WTF she was thinking?

Yes, it's shallow, yes it's not news, but I can't believe even you, goblinchild and sanfairyann, don't think her hairstyle is magnificent in its ghastliness.

Gigantaur · 11/07/2010 21:59

oh goblin lighten up. FGS.

Why does everything have to be so fucking hoghbrow allthe time.

her hair is ridiculous. Yes i am sure she is fantastic at her job and im sure she keeps the previous occupier of her seats's nuts in a jar.
it doesn't matter if she had just won the 10th nobel peace prize in a rowe, she still has shit hair.

gillbraemar · 11/07/2010 22:02

Ah ladies, I just read thru all the comments here and I wanted to thank you all so very much for the giggle I had! In light of the outcome of the Moat saga it could be seen as badly judged to comment on hair but I also asked my husband to come and look at the hair and foound it hard to concentrate on what she was saying,. Mind you, the tie on the Sky reporter was pretty outstanding too!

Goblinchild · 11/07/2010 22:22

'oh goblin lighten up. FGS.

Well, I try and hide all the topics I know are going to bore me, but every now and then one catches me by surprise.
I hate being in the staffroom when people are slagging off parents for being fat, ignorant, poorly-dressed and wondering about the parentage of various children. I object there too and yes, I get told not to be such a po-faced so and so.
Don't care really, I'm just giving my opinion like the rest.
