I think this is so sad. I couldn't survive without books, reading is so important.

What a role model, eh?

Me thinks total publicity stunt - after all look at how many of us are talking about it!!

So what if she has never read a book, there are lots of people who don't. Her never having read a book, doesnt mean that she doesnt read to her kids or that she is thick.

I love reading and read 2-3 books a week but that doesnt mean I read Encyclopedia Brittanica to my dd, just Mr Men, does that mean I'm dumbing down?

o.k. toothache...."I mean.... so what?!?!? " -true, it's not the be all and end all, is it.

But then , that is just another Victoria Beckham classic, isn't it.

She really knows how to win people over, doesn't she ?
How to make yourself appear intelligent , even when you're not.....

And people wonder why, NASA ever let her go.......

Well said Lucy5!!!!

I honestly can't believe what some of you are concluding from this!

Blimey, this has kicked off, hasn't it?

I simply commented because I think it's rather sad, I get so much pleasure from books.

I don't think it's anything she should boast about either, mind you.

I'll put my tin helmet on now, I think.

I think a lot of what VB says is "tongue in cheek". I know lots of smart people who don't read books and lots of stupid people who do read books.

now, now toothy...
off you go now...
I'll let you get on with reading the 'good sex guide',

but, that's only because (unlike VB) I know you can actually read, aswell as look at the pictures...

tee-hee

This is true. I heard her say it on an interview with Graham Norton a couple of years ago.
How can you write one if you have never read one? Thats what I would like to know.

Easy · 15/08/2005 13:19

Cori, she no more wrote that book than I did.

Mind you I wish I had, at least I'd have been paid the ghosting fees.

MT - The whole point of that stunt was to stick up 2 fingers at Slapper Loooooos (....again ).
I think many woman who felt another woman was trying to screw their man would like the opportunity to flaunt the strength of their 'love' on International TV! Verrrrrry clever and bitchy IMO, not dim.

I agree toothache, I dont really care about the Beckhams but, she tried to stick up for herself. I felt quite sorry for her really, it's all a bit pathetic in the true sense of the word. The reading, is just another chance for people to bitch.

I'm with toothy. I don't particularly like the woman but I do think she was treated really grimly by the papers when david had an affair, with all the "oo, what does she expect not being with him all the time" etc Errr, she probably expected her husband to be faithful. Since then everyone is always so keen to stick the knife in.

No, I don't think she is brain of britain but so what. Quote was probably taken out of context too, if she even said it!

what a bubble head she is. ' I can imagine myself painting her nails, choosing make-up etc'. No wonder she's never read a book, I dare say they are beyond her itellectual capabilities.Surprised she can manage the fashion mags!

What a fantastic role model.

She may be a bubble head but you've got to give her some respect for making so much out of so little.

Report
donnie · 15/08/2005 16:38

on the contrary , I have NO respect for her at all!!!! I don't know why people are jealous, her husband sleeps with other people and the whole world knows about it, plus she actually advertises the fact she is thick 'I've never read a book....'I also feel a bit sorry for her kids, they obviously will be wealthy all hteir lives but so many rich celebrity kids end up f####d up, let's face it!

LOL at JanH re girl who never read anything. What, not even road signs?

Report
Tinker · 15/08/2005 16:41

Don't know whether I have respect for her, meaning I am just neutral about her. But she does get a far harder time than DB (and yes, I know, he has actually got a talent, but even so) Now, I bet he hasn't read a book either but would we be as shocked/surprised at that?

Noel Gallagher says the same thing and then talks in interviews about how his girlfriend reads Proust - obv not that ignorant if he knows Proust's highbrow reputation.

They are both protesting too much, of course they've read books.

Agree CM. VB has always protected the unthreatening ordinary-girl-next-door image as part of her marketing appeal. Not as daft as she makes out.

Report
Tinker · 15/08/2005 16:45

Read that as "he knows Proust's eyebrow reputation"

Report
Windermere · 15/08/2005 17:07

Surprised that anyone would admit to not reading a book.
