Absolutely, SGB. The reporting led me to believe that the father wasn't there - why didn't they mention him?

And that link. WTF? Comprehensive new research my arse.

Actually, if both parents were present, then the 'Sunscreen is a tool of the evil lizard elite what rule the world' explanation is actually more likely. Either that or they come from somewhere there isn't any sunshine ever (Wales, maybe? I think one report implied that they were not English-speaking) and really didn;t know the risks.

thisisyesterday · 27/05/2010 10:29

one of the people who spoke to the mother said they thought she may have been eastern european. but who knows?

you know what, I don't think sunscreens are very good for small babies, way too many chemicals
but that doens't mean i would leave a baby in burning sunshine for 5 hoiurs!
I use a natural sunblock and keep them covered up
so, even if they do believe that suncream is bad, that doesn't really excuse what they did either

I am actually somewhat heartened by the fact that apparently so many people tried to help this baby

it is good to know that people cared enough to get involved

poor poor baby

I have been reading reports where the eastern european bit is mentioned and I think it is extremely insulting to eastern european people if they actually are suggesting that that is a reason someone behaved so stupidly and negligently.

Oh she's eastern european so she didn't understand that keeping a baby in direct sunlight for hours will hurt it.

If I was an eastern european person reading that sort of thing I would be bloody annoyed!

gailforce1 · 27/05/2010 21:47

I think that the eastern european bit was mentioned because people were trying to explain to the Mother that the baby was burning and she did not seem to understand what they were saying.

I'm here. My mum told me about this yesterday and said the baby was Erins age, but seeing the photos and reading about it just now has really upset me. Unfortunately, some people just need the obvious spelt out to them and am glad people did intervene.

I'm to say we're quite lax with Tom when it comes to wearing a hat, but nursery are insisting, so will have to find them all out over the weekend and try and get him to wear one.

obviously some VERY thick mother who shouldn't have had a child!!!
EVERY mother, father and granparent knows you sunblock a baby very very well!!!
Also kids and yourself too.
