That was an ambitious sum to request was it not?

I'm wondering what I might get for dh(although of course he's not for sale)

OP posts:

I don't feel sorry for her at all or think she is nice.
She will have done this before which is why the NOTW even thought to set her up.
This isn't some innocent prank gone wrong. She was allowing rich businessmen, for this is what she thought they were, to jump the queue when it cam to winning business.
I don't know if what she has done is a criminal offence but it is certainly morally wrong.
Anyone remember when they were selling their old marital home and it sold for way over the asking price (after it had been on the market for yonks) to a rich Arab?
Think they are just awful the lot of them and not in the least lovable.

thesunshinesbrightly · 24/05/2010 13:34

Poor woman I like her and can't believe she would do something like that and i also agree with kerrymumbles

Songbird · 24/05/2010 13:56

Agree totally with ImSoNotTelling

This is such a non-story it's unbelievable. I couldn't care less, I can't see who it's hurting.

Of course it's a story. She's taking money from people (and massive sums at that) and either misleading them (in that she cannot get them any further than they could get on their own) or is actually getting unfair access for wealthy individuals (which is equally as bad)

BoffinMum · 24/05/2010 14:08

Her judgement was, and always will be, appalling.

The rest of her family (both sides) must be mortified to see this going on.

MummyJummy · 24/05/2010 14:17

tut and eyes to heaven. When will she learn. Agree, she and Andy have role modelled how to "be nice" post divorce. Was I the only one on the planet to feel POW deserved a slap following the Morton book and TV interview "3 in this marriage". Excruciating for the sons. Guess it depends on how you prefer ex-Royal Wives, deceitful & manipulative; gauche and naive; headless, clueless... the list goes on

cornflowers · 24/05/2010 14:17

I found the whole sting operation pretty spiteful, to be honest. Furthermore, if she'd been given a more appropriate divorce settlement in the first place this would probably never have happened.

Chil1234 · 24/05/2010 14:36

She's had and lost more money than most of us will see in six lifetimes. Whatever her divorce settlement, she's had various careers as an author, spokesman for WW, host of various TV shows, chat-show appearances. The princesses weren't raised relying on tax-credits. Even so, she lives way beyond her means and then resorts to slightly dodgy methods to make up the slack. She's a chancer.... that's why the rest of the family give her a wide berth.

seeker · 24/05/2010 14:37

I'm always amazed when people say that they "like" or "dislike" public figures like the Duchess of York. The very most you could say is that you like or dislike the persona presented by the media. We can have no idea at all what they are like as people.

loungelizard · 24/05/2010 14:48

More fool anyone who gets involved with the Royal Family.

I expect Andy 'encourages' her behind the scenes to do this sort of thing to get her a bit of money, without seeming to be involved.

I doubt he will get criticised at all over it and she will take/get all the flak.

They prob thought the scheme up between them but neither of them are actually particularly bright so didn't cross their minds that they would be caught out by an undercover journalist, who has already done the same to Sophie whatsername married to Prince Edward AND Princess Michael of Kent for goodness sake.

They prob thought it was a Jolly Good Wheeze.

They are both pretty idiotic but I do feel a bit sorry for Fergie though because she will get all the flack (and if Andrew was involved it will be hushed up by the Royal Family PR Dept or whatever as usual and he will come out whiter than white).

BoffinMum · 24/05/2010 14:56

This is a woman who grew up with a Union Flag pinned up over her bed at home and the rather worrying monika 'Ginger Bush' as her family nickname.

Wierd people.

Merrylegs · 24/05/2010 15:22

God. This is such a non-story though, isn't it?

The NOTW might as well have just printed 'Today We Shot Fish in a Barrel.'

I mean, really.

Where's the effort in it all?

At least now Fergie has something in common with Mumsnet - as the lazy journos godsend.

annoyingdevil · 24/05/2010 16:05

Why didn't the Royals just offer her a decent pay-off? Surely, all her money-making endeavers (Weight Watchers etc.)have been an embarassement to them.

zozzle · 24/05/2010 18:59

Yep the royals should have given her a better divorce settlement. I've always liked her and although she may have had a lapse of judgement, I think some factions of the press are evil.

Bobbalina · 24/05/2010 19:01

confidence tricks are brought to mind!

Bobbalina · 24/05/2010 19:01

Will she be on watchdog next or will she pop up on rogue traders...who knows...

kerstina · 24/05/2010 19:19

I agree with Nixos i reckon Andrew is probaby in on it too. I think it is disgusting and corrupt surely she can earn money in a better way. Think of how much of tax payers money goes to the royal family could the cuts that we are all going to endure not be made to them too ?

Ponders · 24/05/2010 19:24

Haven't read whole thread, but who believes she only gets £15K a year from the divorce settlement as she claims?

nikos · 24/05/2010 20:06

I don't get those of you having a go at the press. She will have done this before, probably on several occasions, and someone will have tipped off the press that she was doing it. They will have set out to catch her doing this, but surely that's in the public interest.
They didn't con her into doing this. She would have been doing it first and then they have set out to catch her.
It is her own greed and lack of scruples that has got her into this mess.
Plenty of us have been hard up and not gone out and done something immoral or underhand.
I totally don't get those of you who think she is 'nice'. Watch the video on the NOTW website and see how shoddy she is.

mollymawk · 24/05/2010 20:29

Somehow (not sure why) I find myself sympathetic to Sarah Ferguson, wanting her to redeem herself, and then she goes and messes it up (again).

When will the rich and famous ever learn that there are no actual "rich foreign businessmen" in the world. They are all tabloid journalists.

Jux · 24/05/2010 20:30

I could live quite happily on 15K a year, thanks.

wedlocked · 24/05/2010 20:46

Agree with Nikos. She is a stupid and venal woman who has had more money in her life than most people could dream of and she is willing to go to a hotel room in Mayfair with a stranger to sell access to her ex husband. Really sordid.

The NOW film is horrible - she is barely coherent and so obviously consumed with awful greed.

How can you feel sorry for someone like that?

It wasn't that long ago that she was prancing about on some 'poor' estate, patronising the residents. Notice she wasn't telling them to get involved in dodgy business deals!

rosieposey · 24/05/2010 21:08

I think she seemed a bit rambly and pissed, she also seemed to be inferring at the end of the converstation that Andrew does take money for his connections on the quiet?
