Now I know it is the Mirror, but apparently the security bill for this whim is going to cost £1m

Rather goes against her hubby's policies on spending cuts!

I live around the corner and the whole bloody street is closed off with police guards. Ridiculous!

CJCregg · 25/05/2010 12:52

I am amazed at how quick people are to judge. The tone of this thread ('shocked', 'appalled', 'a disgrace') is incredibly damning. Well done, tabloids, for stirring up such self-righteous bitching about a pregnant woman who is trying to decide what's best for her family.

HalfTermHero · 25/05/2010 13:06

'What is best for her family' Vs what is best for the taxpayer/the country/her fricking neighbours!

Clary · 25/05/2010 13:09

But her husband's the PM, y'know!

I agree it may not be true (tabloids a v norty like that) but if it is then it is shocking.

What's best for her family may have to take a back seat now. Sorry but if you don't like it, then don't be married to the man who is the PM.

I for one would be quite happy if he would step down over this

JackBauer · 25/05/2010 13:11

I do feel sorry for her.
HOw can teh top job in the coutnry mean you have to live in a teeny little flat with no privacy above the 'shop'? I'd hate that when pregnant.

The flat was originally meant for the older polotician though, whose children had all elft home, so it wasn't an issue, now there are families moving in it is a problem.

Although it must be an almighty pita for anyone living near them now.

ha ha - so Sam and Dave can't possibly move into Downing St until the kitchen has been refurbished from the one that the Browns managed with?

Who is the big spender here?

CJCregg · 25/05/2010 20:57

smallwhitecat - couldn't agree more.

EdgarAllenPoll · 25/05/2010 21:02

if there was a post 'AIBU - to not to want to move for DH's work when i am going to thave another baby soon' i think most replies would be 'YANBU' ..

the country employed Dave, not his Mrs.

HumphreyCobbler · 25/05/2010 21:05

yes smallwhitecat, I agree

missorinoco · 25/05/2010 21:08

Are numbers 10 and 11 quite small then?
(All I have to go on is Love Actually, which I suspect is not overly accurate in such matters.)

Hulababy · 25/05/2010 21:11

Those having a go at her for not moving immediately and waiting for refurbs to be done....you do realise that this is what Cherie Blair did also I believe? I think there is always some change over time sorting one lot of stuff out and new stuff in.

Give them a chance!

expatinscotland · 25/05/2010 21:13

Why has nothing ever been done to make No. 10 more suitable for a PM with a family?

I don't see what the big deal is with her wanting to redecorate.

Each US President is given a very healthy buget to redecorate the living quarters of The White House, which admittedly are far more spacious than Downing Street.

Hell, he even gets money to order a new china service!

Security-wise of course it makes sense.

What's Clegg gonna do? He's got a couple of young ones as well, hasn't he?

loungelizard · 25/05/2010 22:41

Cleggs sharing somewhere with William Hague. Lucky him
