StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 07/05/2010 16:46

Google are saying that Dear Danny Dyer has been dropped by Zoo magazine after the furore about his advice that a Mancunian lad should cut his ex's face, so no-one would want her.

My heart bleeds for him - NOT!!!

OP posts:
harleyd · 07/05/2010 16:48

im amazed it was even publised in the first place

ChickensNeedOpposableThumb · 07/05/2010 16:48

Shame the whole rag wasn't banished in to the composter.

scurryfunge · 07/05/2010 16:50

At least the rag has taken some postive action

scurryfunge · 07/05/2010 16:50

positive*

belgo · 07/05/2010 16:51

Good, but what about the editor who agreed to it being published?

sorky · 07/05/2010 16:51

Even the guy who wrote the letter said he was shocked with the advice!

Does the Editor not have to answer here?

I hope the editors head is on the block too .

misplaced · 07/05/2010 17:02

Exactly - the buck stops with the editor. Not a halfwit telly toughie.

BigBadMummy · 07/05/2010 17:07

Well that is great BUT yesterday they were saying it was a "Production Error" and "should never have been printed".

So did Dyer say it and it shouldn't have been printed or did Dyer not say it and somebody else put the words in his mouth so to speak.

Can the Press Complaints Commission investigate or does the person at the centre of the complaint have to do it (as in Gateley / Moir etc)

Forget the Editor. Who is the Publisher?

Ponders · 07/05/2010 21:10

Oh is that who Danny Dyer is? He was always getting sarky namechecks in the Now Show & I kept meaning to find out who he was & why the sark.

Now I know

webwahm · 08/05/2010 11:49

Like others have said, this seems too little - whether or not he said it/was misquoted etc. at the end of the day "ZOO" published it.

Aitch · 08/05/2010 11:53

yeah, it's not DD's fault that he's a misogynistic half-wit, that's why ZOO employed him after all. the fault lies with the editor who signed it off.

Aitch · 08/05/2010 11:57

and this is taking it at face value that he actually has some input into the column. at best it's a phoner with a journo scribing it. can imagine him sayine 'or he could cut her face' as an offhander (becuase he's a prick) but not expecting it to go in, iykwim?

southeastastra · 08/05/2010 12:01

as someone on twitter said at the time 'if you take advice from danny dyer you should be in an asylum'

scanty · 08/05/2010 18:11

heard soemone from Zoo on the the radio the other day explaining that DD never said that quote but it was tacked on as a joke by some minion and then joke (which was never intended to be published) was missed by the editing group and printed by mistake. also heard DD denied he had anything to do with it. Who knows what's going on.

Magaly · 08/05/2010 18:14

Good.

At least there is some limit beyond which it is unacceptable to go. NOT that the magazine is going to be a fantastic publication even without him, but still, it is good news.

iamfabregasted · 08/05/2010 18:23

Just want to say, I went on RadioUlster to talk about this, (there's a thread on here somewhere about it) and I have email everyone from Zoo and Bauer media I can find, and I have had no response from any of them.

I'm seriously considering posting in AIBU to expect them to reply to me??

iamfabregasted · 08/05/2010 18:25

Sorry should have been emailED.

beccas · 08/05/2010 18:39

I work in publishing.

No one will get sacked. The substantial donation is probably around £1000. It will have to be paid out of the actual magazine creative budget which won't be as big as you think!

All interviews such as this should be seen by the legal team so actually, this should have been picked up.
The features team likely submitted the interview.
The Sub editors should have raised it with the legal team.
The editor should have spotted it if the subs missed it, and the Deputy Editor would have also read the proof before publication.

So bottom line here is that it went through at least 4 people who didn't do their job properly. Production Error? Ha

If your hubby reads Zoo or any magazine like it - then forbid sex forever until he stops!

Aitch · 08/05/2010 18:43

well hang on, they can't have it all ways. if it was a (bad) production error then they shouldn't sack him. not fair, surely?
