Google are saying that Dear Danny Dyer has been dropped by Zoo magazine after the furore about his advice that a Mancunian lad should cut his ex's face, so no-one would want her.

My heart bleeds for him - NOT!!!

a joke about a woman putting a noose over her head?!

omg. This bilge is disgraceful. I hope they rein their hatred for women in a bit now though, not because they want to but because they're afraid of getting into trouble.

There was a similar 'joke' tacked onto the end of another piece of 'advice' by Dyer - his correspondant was upset that his girlfriend had stubbly legs and didn't keep her pubic hair neatly trimmed - if I recall correctly he said he himself liked a hairy muff, but if the hair went down to the thighs then the girl should be dumped forthwith - and then suggested setting fire to the messy pubic hair, which should go up like a thatched roof.

To me, this suggests that the 'joke' at the end of the advice is a pattern, not a one-off, though whether it is a 'joke' from Dyer or from some staffer at the magazine, I don't know.

Yes Dittany, the problem is not so much this line that they've been seen to cross on this occasion, but really it is that the regular content of their magazine which stops a millimetre short of the comment that received complaints; that is considered acceptable.... jeez.

dittany, you're right, Cosmo still regards the man as 'the prize'. It should glorify being single a bit more. And not a token look on the bright side you can choose the channel article, but really highlight the UP sides to being single. Not by chance, but having the strength to be single in this couple-centric world which is good for men and maybe not so good for women.

Magaly · 08/05/2010 20:17

I expressed all of that so badly! Hope you know what I mean.

TheCrackFox · 08/05/2010 20:23

"Meanwhile all their girlfriends are reading magazines like Cosmo telling them how to please their man. There's a big disconnect. "

Not once (admittedly 15yrs ago) when I read Cosmo did they say "don't go out with arseholes". It was all about pleasing him and changing your looks, clothes, opinions, sexual habits.

Magaly · 08/05/2010 20:57

Cosmo is as bad for women as zoo is..

I HATE Zoo magazine and it should be top-shelf as it's a load of sexist, chauvinist bullshit which glorifies the 'high-street honeys' and imply that women and their bodies are for male consumption only.

They show breasts every publication and yet mother/baby mags have to make a huge deal out of showing a (discreetly) breastfeeding mother on their cover for the first time, and have to announce that this is a 'breakthrough' in publication. WTF?

Pofacedagain · 15/05/2010 14:32

That is extraordinary, isn't it? that breasts can be shown routinely for titillation but a baby feeding at the breast is seen as 'disgusting' or at least too challenging for public display. Says something deeply disturbing about misogyny and how it permeates our perception of sexuality in this culture.
