DM Couldn't find any threads about this. Has it been discussed ?
In the papers agin. Shame , if it was 7 years ago then she joined before even most of us. Bit sad.

OP posts:

Ooh, custy, that's a GREAT idea! I wonder if MN could do it? there could be another button next to the Report button, saying Add to OP or something... and yes, have it with the later time/date stamp and in a different colour or italicised or something.

CarmenSanDiego · 23/04/2010 01:56

That is a really good idea.

madwomanintheattic · 23/04/2010 02:51

loads of other forums have an 'edit' button - and it says 'reason for editing' and comes up with the time. you can amend any post you make, including the thread starter.

i often wonder why mn doesn't have that function, but not a techie lol.

article has a lot of truth in it. If you don't recognise the bullies maybe you are one of them. I don't bother with most of mumsnet, only the supportive parts, so wouldn't recognise the bullies.

The net brings out the worst in people and I do believe that some of the most prolific bullies are here because they have no friends in RL.

porcamiseria · 23/04/2010 10:22

anyfucker

Its YOU!!! you mean mean person

I jest

I think some people seriously dont have thick enough skin. To see them get so upset is both frustrating, and a bit sad

sad when people geniunely have issues, I have told people (nicely) to go away as it upsets me seeing them get so upset

Mainly frustrating tho. Did they not read the website before they posted?

AnyFucker · 23/04/2010 17:36

< chucks glass of wine in porcamiseria's face >

oops, sorry, complete accident

moondog · 23/04/2010 17:53

What a heap of shit.
DM is just a steaming great cesspit of envy.
As MP points out, their misogynistic attitude sometimes takes oyur breath away ,but in manner of stirring child, they point the finger at MN as an example of women being unkind to women.

Al of these 'women's issue' journalists are green with envy at not having come up with this idea in the first place-a forum which is wittier, funnier and more thought provokin than anything published in a paper pr a magazine.

So, we have a funn state of affairs which has turned journalism on its head-once, journalists reported on what was gonig on in the world, now they discuss what is going on in the world (in cyberspace) with a view to drawing attention to themselves so it ends up with us discussing journalists ans opposed to journalists discussing us.

You can bet your bottom dollar that this woman ('Hello Anna!') has rushed to keyboard to see when her name and silly little article crops up.

They all do it-I have a journalist friend who wrote a strangely vitriolic article about MN. I know that person then read every comment about themselves (having the good grace to laugh about them too).

As for all this talk about 'bullying'. Again, what crap. These days if peopel don't like anything about waht someone esle does or says about them ,they screech 'Bully! Boo hoo!!'

elliemental · 23/04/2010 18:04

''Now I hardly use it at all.? '' quote from 'sandra' in that article.

But you still use it.

I have been here for 6 or so years. I've had a few mild bashings, had a few run ins with a few predicatble people. But the laughs and the support outweigh anything else.
I don't feel I've ever been bullied!

In RL, real 'good' friends and family have upset me at times, why should the internet forums be any different?

moondog · 23/04/2010 18:05

Good point Ellie re RL.

porcamiseria · 24/04/2010 10:33

well if anyone wants a good example of where this cyber thing can go wrong, check AIBU where there is a thread where a woman wants a termination. That WILL get ugly god I wsihed she had not posted there...poor thing

Anyfucker, nuff said!!!!

redwineplease · 24/04/2010 14:09

Meant to log on when I read the YOU article, but forgot password as I use MN rarely. I fully agreed with the article and often read in shock at the aggressive nature of threads. In particular when the 'beasts' are awaiting the live guests. I asked a question once and was greeted with the reply 'done to death, ask something interesting'!!!

jasper · 24/04/2010 23:12

Fully agree with the article too. Been here off and on for ten years. I do dispute that it is getting worse.
there were a couple of really nasty characters way back then too

GrumpyYoungFogey · 24/04/2010 23:25

The blatant cross-promotion ongoing MN / DM/MoS "feud" is tedious even by Femail standards.

MN is the baby of Fleet-Street Hackettes and chases exactly the same market of middle-class 30 and 40-something women as the Mail.

How long before the two team up on offers for Boden catalogue clothers and NCT-classes (if they haven't already)?

jasper · 24/04/2010 23:30

indeed grumpy, I have often thought this too

thumbwitch · 25/04/2010 10:52

ARGH! I do NOT appreciate being classed in the same bracket as the DM market! (or Boden/NCT etc)

Have NEVER bought the Daily Wail, won't have the toxic rag in the house - the only exposure I've had to it has been via a good friend of mine (shame) and here on MN.

AFAIK, MN has a much wider demographic than the DAily Wail readership.
