Norks, I take it back, the flight did take off. Hope he's with you soon.

NorksDrift · 20/04/2010 17:10

Oh God,it now says cancelled. I know he's taken off. I wonder where he'll end up?!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 20/04/2010 17:13

Norks, that's the next flight leaving Doha to Bahrain tonight and then onto London. Keep you fingers crossed

NorksDrift · 20/04/2010 17:20

No,the Heathrow website has changed its status to "cancelled". I'm on hold to BA. I knew it was too good to be true!

girlsyearapart · 20/04/2010 17:22

Latest from parents in Kuala Lumpur is that they have been offered flights to Rome but once they arrive there they have no onward back up so no transport or hotel- they have heard it is a nightmare to try to get home from Rome so are staying put.

They are really not the kind of people to hire a car and drive back from Rome.

My dad just text saying don't have the baby until they get back- I have 15 weeks left!So not going to do a myboots on you all.

lambethlil · 20/04/2010 17:41

I'm stuck here in Malta, due to fly last Sunday and rebooked next Tuesday- really can't complain as we've moved into a cheap appartment and finally found a reasonable supermarket. Kids are delighted and we're avoiding the builder back home finishing off noisy messy work. DH might get to Amsterdam tomorrow for work, but in-laws are stuck in very expensive resort in Egypt unable for any of them to get back 'til next week.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 20/04/2010 18:02

Norks, mum just got back to our house in Bahrain, she said the BA left and heard that it landed in Manchester. Hope all is okay.

My parents made it back by Ferry today. Now are trying to work out the trains to get them back to ours. They left thier car at our house as we are near the airport.

DH is due on a business trip the end of the week but ive told him even if the flights are going hes not going incase the ban the flights back again. DC2 is due in 4 weeks and im not risking that

Hope everyone else gets back soon.

Jacaqueen · 20/04/2010 18:30

Oh Norks did he make it to Manchester.

I so hope he did.

Rosa · 20/04/2010 18:30

Emirates landed in Venice today from Dubai if thats any help to anybody ....
Good news is that internal flights have been running in Italy so that should reduce the train congestion a bit especially from those coming into Rome.

NorksDrift · 20/04/2010 18:56

Yes I think that must be his flight. It looks like it has been diverted to Brussels so I suppose he'll have to join the Eurostar madness. Can't wait to see him!

tunisianaunt · 20/04/2010 19:04

If anyone is stuck in London I have a room in Clapham that I would be happy to offer.

QOD · 20/04/2010 19:06

Did you miss me?

Arrived back at 2.30 am from Norway

minibus from Oslo Sweden Denmark Germany (including 2 ferries) to Amsterdam

Train from Amsterdam to Antwerp

Train from Antwerp thru Holland to France (Lille)

Frigging train drivers in France went on strike on the Lille to Calais line........ so

Taxi from Lille to Calais

I was one of those people on TVS last night LOL in the queues for 2hrs - ferry home

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Only took 32 straight hours, no sleep, immodium so we didn't need to poo and nearly £5000 to get the 6 of us home

We went to Norway for a funeral

violetqueen · 20/04/2010 19:08

Several London schools seem badly affected by staff unable to get back .
DC's school has 20% stranded and the school ,like others round here , are telling lower years not to attend .
More gaps in A level teaching .... sigh

Good luck to everyone struggling to get back - imagine we're hearing from those still coping ,still with some resources...

oh well done QOD Welcome back!!!!
sorry you've had such a crap time and are much poorer though

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/04/2010 19:24

I have just spoken to DH and the sleeper train/Eurostar option is now not happening There are no ferries available out of northern Spain.

Handbag - they are now looking at maybe flying into Ireland

Norkily - that is good news

QOD - glad you're back and all in one piece, what a hellish journey!

Just to say that anyone who has their travel insurance with HSBC, they have said that they will pay out on claims caused by the volcano disruption.

Jacaqueen · 20/04/2010 19:37

Welcome back QOD

This thread has been fantastic.

We've even had a volcano baby!

SofiaAmes · 20/04/2010 19:46

skihorse, don't understand your comment. Lufthansa provided my dh with meal vouchers at hotel and airport and one of the meals he ate gave him food poisoning which took effect just before he got on the coach. Much of our food comes by plane from other places and if hotels and restaurants are not getting new food, the less reputable ones may be tempted to use out of date food.

SofiaAmes · 20/04/2010 19:47

My brother has an apartment in Brooklyn and may be able to help stranded people if anyone is stuck in New York.

MmeLindt · 20/04/2010 19:59

Welcome home QOD, glad you made it back. What a torturous journey, though.

Still not got through to Lufthansa. Flights from Germany are few and far between so maybe we will be lucky.

brockyg · 20/04/2010 20:04

DH due to fly from New York JFK tonight to Heathrow, but it's just been cancelled.

Now due to fly to Madrid on Thurs, drive to ferry for Fri pm, stopping in Bordeaux for Thu night in a hotel and pick up some wine he hopes. What a jaunt, lucky bugger. I'll have done nearly 2/52 with 3 kids by the time he's back and he'll be knackered and no help at all for a second weekend.

Then he's straight off again travelling in the UK. Give me strength...

Anyone else finding it hard to pinpoint exactly what they're missing about their DH being away?

Everything running incredibly smoothly here but am slightly fed up with bedtime for DS who's 4.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 20/04/2010 20:08

brockyg I have discovered who it is who makes a mess everywhere, but I knew that already

I am missing his assistance with DS at bedtime, and I'm missing him bringing me a cup of tea in bed in the morning. And now I must stop or I shall cry.
