Have just heard an unconfirmed report on the radio. Anyone else?

OP posts:

so dh is not mad

Ladymuck · 22/07/2005 14:44

Your first point I can totally see (though changing buses in central London wouldn't generally make me late thanks to the wonderful infrastructure we have). But damage to infrastructure and the economy - yes. But can't see Aloha's action in changing buses as particularly damaging to the economy (but thought that Aloha was some sort of journalist in RL, so could be my mistake)

But the second point - no, sorry I still don't see your point?

'IMO it is the fault of the extemists who have brought this on their people.' no no no no

Windermere · 22/07/2005 14:47

Sophable - You are right. But sometimes our anxiety can overpower our logic, well that is the case for me anyway.

If you want paranoid, listen to this on the day of the bomb attacks I was walking past our train station when dh phoned my mobile and told me that there had been bomb attacks in London, when he asked where I was I told him that I was just about to walk the station and he went crazy and told me to run as far away as I could, he was so hysterical that I thought a bomb had actually been found at our station which is really unlikely (rural hertfordshire). What chance does ds have with parents like us?!

Heathcliffscathy · 22/07/2005 14:47

if someone other than wiltshire can post:

'it is the fault of the extemists who have brought this on their people.'

then we are are all well and truly f*cked.

aloha · 22/07/2005 14:47

Um sophable, yes, if there had been ten different suicide bombings on transport by blonde women who appeared to be heavily pregnant, then yes, I might well be twitchy when an apparently heavily pregnant woman with a rucksack got on my bus, which is why I say this is nothing to do with racism.
However, I don't honestly think this is a very likely scenario.
If the pregnant woman had a Mulberry bag I would obviously not be worried.

Flossam, please, listen to what you are saying. you're saying that some deluded or brainwashed or whatever nutters are in some way linked with all muslims? all asians??????

I shouldn't be shocked though as this is the kind of thing i'm hearning more and more from totally disparate places in my world.

how utterly depressing.

aloha · 22/07/2005 14:51

Thank you for that reassuring snort, fishface.

Windermere · 22/07/2005 14:51

I ought to make clear that my most recent post was in response to Sophable's post about extremists winning. Phew!! This is moving too fast.

Heathcliffscathy · 22/07/2005 14:52

windemere i hear you. doesn't make me feel happy tho, and neither you i expect!

Flossam · 22/07/2005 14:53

That is my opinion, yes I am afraid it is. My muslim friend also agrees with this. Everyone should be united against the people who are at fault here, and all anger should be directed against them, not each other.

Heathcliffscathy · 22/07/2005 14:54

[sound of sophable banging head repeatedly against hard object]

edam · 22/07/2005 14:54

As far as I can see, Flossam's saying that people are scared of other people who are similar in appearance to the bombers, even though we all know there are thousands of people matching that appearance. And that that anxiety and abnormal response is the fault of the bombers.

She's not saying that all Asian people are evil, she's saying that fear of young Asian men on public transport is because a handful of young Asian men on public transport killed 52 people and tried to kill hundreds more yesterday.

joash · 22/07/2005 14:55

Just needed to comment on the 'grin' test mentioned earlier. I did the same thing yesterday whilst sitting in A&E with GS - not because I thought the two young Asian men were potential bombers, but because everyone else had so obviously and completely ignored them and all the seats immediately around them remained empty. GS toddled over to them for a chat, so I made a point of going with him and showing that not everyone makes assumptions about them.

Heathcliffscathy · 22/07/2005 14:55

as far as i can see edam, flossam is saying that the muslims that are upset by aloha getting off the bus, deserve what they get as it is 'their people' that have brought it on themselves....

[continues bashing head]

Springchicken · 22/07/2005 14:55

Thankyou Aloha for jumping in when you thought I was going to get attacked for expressing my opinion, whcih is something i don't very often do on mumsnet and will certainly think twice before doing it again.
I actually thought earlier that everything i was trying to say was just coming out wrong.

I am sincerely sorry if i have offended WWW as that is something which i would never intentionally do. However, my opinion has not changed.
I am glad i did not see what QoQ posted, thankfully I was at Sainsbury's, although the gist i get is that it wasn't overly pleasant.

Flossam · 22/07/2005 14:56

I'm not saying they are linked at all! No. I am saying that if people are feeling dissapointed with how people are responding, their anger should be towards the extremists not the peopple who are trying to ensure their safety.
