I was in b&Q, everyone had stopped and bowed their heads - they had announced it on the tannoy, some ignorant b~~~~~d waltzed up to the checkout, and expected to be served - the poor girl had to break her silence to tell him what was going on. He strode off, hopefully back under the rock he came out of.

At work here in central London most people stood outside the building to observe the silence. The buses stopped and amazingly the cars stopped as well. It was eerie and very moving.

I found it quite eerie. The start of the two mnute silence was started by the still working air raid siren in Wrexham which sent shivers up my spine. Everybody (apart from a few ignorant people kept walking and chatting away even when they realised)and even most of the cars stopped and there was silence. I had a lump in my throat and lots of others looked teary

We did 2 minutes silence at the prison. Whole place went eeriely silent. All of the inmates I could see were silent too, regardless of race or religion.

One woman in our office kept working, using computer, photocopier during that time. There were only 4 of us in there but as one man was stood up, head bowed in middle of room I am suprised that she couldn't have realised what was going on.

I am ashamed to say, I didn't stop!!! Collected dd from Special needs nursery, had my mum and dad in the car and needed to take him up to the hospital. Did even have my radio put in the car, otherwise I would have done so. TBH, no-one else pulled over or stopped either otherwise I would have noticed!!! I will shed a few tears and have a few minutes to myself when the kiddies are tucked up in bed.

I can remember the 2 minutes silence for 911!! I was in the middle of ASDA- it was just so spooky, and I stood there, hugging Amelia in the trolley and trying so hard to fight back the tears!!!

Sorry, everyone, I have let you down, but most of all myself!!

Dingle I missed it too. Picked Dh up from pre-school and was busy rushing around getting her lunch sorted. Didn't have TV or radio on so didn't realised what time it was.

nutcracker · 14/07/2005 16:42

I actually forgot but luckily we had Nk Jr on and they observed it which reminded me.

Sat with my mouth clamped shut whilst Ds chucked his lunch all of the floor, and stamped on it.

Feel really angry with myself now. Wrapped up in my own little world of special needs kiddies, form filling, the thought of mum going back into hospital next week and getting my dad to his hospital on time. It make all my problems seem rather insignificant doesn't it!

Hulababy · 14/07/2005 16:50

It is so easily done if you have no TV or radio on, or are not with others observing it too. Don't upset yourself Dingle. You can have your own private moment of reflection later, as you say.

nutcracker · 14/07/2005 16:50

Don't be so hard on your self Dingle. I'm sure there are lots of people who didn't take part for far more selfish reasons (not that your were selfish at all IMO).

I forgot too. but was busy being quiet on pc
