lack of silence here - bloody neighbours have no consideration. Music blaring chattering away in the garden.

even jess was quiet - in front of cbeebies admittedly.

makes me so that people cant shut off for 2 minutes.

I said a little prayer and all the silence really made me think how lucky I am to be alive and how grateful I am to God for keeping my family safe.

Norash · 14/07/2005 12:06

Brought a tear to my eye (OK honestly I am crying)

swiperfox · 14/07/2005 12:08

I think the workmen knew - they rushed our with about 30 seconds to spare!!

DD was very good bless her. I watched it on bbc1 news and it gave me goosebumps.

I can't believe there were still a few people walking past all the others standing still - makes me a bit that they haven't got the respect to stop and think for just 2 minutes

all the buses had pulled up. Really well observed - we were all out on the pavement and heard the bells calling the beginning and end of the silence.

Norash · 14/07/2005 12:10

I am with you swipefox, it's only two minutes out of their day. I think just because something does not affect one personaly is no reason not to show respect.

WigWamBam · 14/07/2005 12:12

Maybe they didn't realise what was going on? I didn't know until I read this thread this morning that there was to be a silence observed today.

Gobbledigook · 14/07/2005 12:13

Swiper - I know what you mean about people not stopping. Maybe some people didn't know about it. Tbh, the only reason I knew was cos I heard it on the radio on the way to nursery but often I have a CD on rather than radio - I could easily have missed it and had no idea.

It was hours after the actual attacks last week that I knew about the tragedy and that was only cos a friend rang me about something else and obviously mentioned it.

Quite often I don't see or hear any news till the kids have gone to bed at night.

Norash · 14/07/2005 12:13

WWB that could be true too.

Gobbledigook · 14/07/2005 12:14

WWB

deegward · 14/07/2005 12:14

Ds2 and I did it together, Nick Jr switched off and ds2 (2) was very perturbed. Felt v moving standing there with ds2. Know ds1's school will be doing it this morning.

swiperfox · 14/07/2005 12:15

It was a London street - everyone was standing on it with their heads bowed lol just surprised me a little bit!

i got a bit of a shock, didn't realise it was that time already, walked onto the S circular and the road was lined with people standinbg outside their shops, silent. Made me shiver even in this heat.

Gobbledigook · 14/07/2005 12:18

Oh OK - I think it might be obvious if I was in Tesco or something and everyone stopped! Don't think I could carry on walking.

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2005 12:21

I cried in the car. Did everyone not post for 2 mins? I hope so.

compo · 14/07/2005 12:22

most people did www but not everyone

Willow2 · 14/07/2005 12:30

How incredibly moving was that? I was driving and suddenly realised what the time was, so pulled over. All the other cars had done/did likewise. Everyone put their hazards on and stood outside their cars. People came out of their offices. Not a car went past. It made the hairs stand up on my arms. I felt incredibly sad yet extremely proud - if that makes sense?

snafu · 14/07/2005 12:32

No-one pulled over on my road. I guess they're all just too busy and important.

Willow2 · 14/07/2005 12:34

Wankers.

fastasleep · 14/07/2005 12:35

Theo was shrieking away in his bath

CountessDracula · 14/07/2005 12:36

willow where were you?

swiperfox · 14/07/2005 12:37

only one car came past our road in the whole 2 minutes so everyone here must have pulled over too.

I cant believe its been a week already

Tried in vain to do it in the house on my own. Unfortunately friends DS is a lovely chatty little boy and every two seconds it was

"GWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN....................."

Willow2 · 14/07/2005 13:30

Mortlake Road CD - not exactly Spaghetti Junction, but still quite busy normally. Saw all these people coming out of an office and thought, "Surely there can't be a bomb scare out here?" Then realised that it was nearly 12 and virtually did an emergency stop!
