How does this happen? Toddler handed over to stranger by police station.

That's very odd - perhaps the other woman had stolen the mum's ID or they know each other. This is probably not as it appears. Bloody awful though.

The person who took her must have known the mum was there and her name etc so hopefully they will track her down.

Can you imagine how you'd feel how terrifying.

Mother could have arranged it this way in order to keep the child from being taken by SS etc
person knew details of who was meant to pick Audrey up after all.
Hope she is ok

You would have thought they would have shown the person to the mother and said "is this the person we are supposed to give your child to?".

Not just handed her over to someone who wandered in off the street saying "yeah I'm her mate".

Piffle if you are right it makes no sense why they are looking for the child. They only have the mother's word that the wrong person collected the child. If she wanted to ensure SS weren't involved she could have just confirmed that the woman was who she was supposed to be.

You mean you think that she really was a friend of the mother and that the friend has taken the child into hiding to avoid SS?

But if SS were involved then why were they giving the child to a friend of the mother in the first place, whether it was the right friend of not?

well if we weren't so fucking brutally uncivilised and stupid in our attitude towards immigrants she wouldn't have been separated from her mother in the first place

what an awful thing to happen, I can't imagine how her mother must be feeling

Yes i didn't really understand why she wasn't with her mother greenselves.

I guess the police don't take children as well when they nick people for anything? If someone got nicked for shoplifting or something while out with their child they would separate them as well I guess?

I assume sityfeetdoll means that the mother and the 6 people arrested may well all know each other.

TBH I would be suprised if this was the act of a total stranger, rather than somone who is connected to the mother in someway.

They do separate children from parents if someone is arrested. Normally the child will be kept in a seperate room, with an appropriate officer or other supprt worker to entertain them.

Children are not allowed into custody units, full stop.
If a family member cannot be found, then SSD will come out.

This woman wil have given details of someone to collect her child.
That person will have been checked.
THe police would not have handed over the child to a random person.
The person who showed up will have known the ID of the person who the child should have gone with.

ie They will know each other?

Am Shocked! Surely if you release a child to anyone you verify who they are before doing so!

I really hope that they find her and she is reunited with her mother.

This wouldn't be headline news on teh BBC if it wasn't very serious I am sure.

It's crass to speculate about the seriousess of this surely? A child has basically been abducted.

I don't think that knowing the ID of someone that's supposed to be picking a child up means that the mother and whoever it was that turned up know each other. Have mutual acquaintances perhaps, but doesn't mean they know each other.

Hula, I meant that she was arrested because we have an insane policy towards immigrants IMO - she was arrested in connection with "immigration offecnces"

I know they separate children from parents when they arrest them - I was taking issue with the policy that led to her arrest

Green - I suppose it depends on what the "immigration offences" are. There are many instances where I think the way they are treated is shite.......but then there are offences where I think "well serves you bloody well right" iykwim.

I hope the little girl is ok - she's gorgeous
