I didn't even know she was expecting again (I suppose I should have just taken it as a given!!!)

Hope the tiny little girl is a fighter

Just to point out that the Duggars are NOT typical of all active Christians. Most of us very much believe in and use contraception.

I really hope both baby and mum will be ok but tbh with such a blatent disregard for health and good sense something bad was bound to happen at some point.

expatinscotland · 15/12/2009 19:52

'Can't imagine Mum getting much rest with 18 others to look after.'

She doesn't look after them. The older children are 'buddied' with one of the younger ones.

expatinscotland · 15/12/2009 19:54

Some are also grown or nearly-grown.

pooka · 15/12/2009 19:57

WRT avoiding sex around ovulation, the mother seems to breastfeed and it may be that she isn't aware of fertile times/hasn't had resumption of regular periods. WHo knows?

Anyway - I think they are loony.

'I have a friend with 14 children. I think its great.'

Really? That is honestly surprising coming from you considering that you're an eco warrior.

Not having a go, but the Duggars use disposable nappies .

AMerryScot · 15/12/2009 20:44

The Duggars claim to put out less garbage and buy fewer things (clothes, consumer goods) than the average American family.

Clearly they eat more than the average family.

sweetkitty · 15/12/2009 20:50

Wow that is early, maybe Mums body is trying to tell her something, I am on number 4 and mine is definitely telling me this is the last one.

Hope the LO is OK.

expatinscotland · 15/12/2009 20:51

'The Duggars claim to put out less garbage and buy fewer things (clothes, consumer goods) than the average American family.'

That's really not saying much, AMerryScot.

AMerryScot · 15/12/2009 20:53

True, but all things are relative

MannyMoeAndJack · 15/12/2009 20:55

My ds was premature but not this premature. I know a lady who had pre-eclampsia during her pg and thus had to deliver her son via cs at 26wks...he's fine apart from requiring support with maths.

PacificMistletoeandnoWine · 15/12/2009 21:44

My DS2 was almost delivered at 25 weeks - in the end made it to 31 weeks, and his time in SCBU was scary enough.

In regards to religion/Christianity of which there are of course many "flavours": God gave us free will - and contraception. Surely there is a method that can be acceptable to anybody?!
Billings/Natural family planning is acceptable to all but the most extreme interpretations of all sorts of faiths.

I truly think it is not a very Christian thing to do to put her own life, thereby the life of all her children's mother, and her baby's on the line.

So hope the wee one will be ok - and mum.

"freak" = harsh, BTW.

MerlinsBeard · 15/12/2009 22:07

Does it matter what their religion is or isn't? It doesn't change the fact that there was a tiny baby born far far too early

Maleeka · 15/12/2009 22:42

Is the family where all the kids names start with J?

Fun times all round when the postie comes around!

Hope the bub will be ok, but seriously surely this is her body telling her enough is enough!

fernie3 · 16/12/2009 11:12

I hope the little one is ok. I am worried with this being my fourth - mainly about other peoples reactions! 19 is a few too many for my liking!

bogie · 16/12/2009 11:14

I hope she is ok, March 18th is my due date,it must be so scary

MrsTittleMouse · 16/12/2009 11:36

She does try to have as many as she can - she intentionally gives up breastfeeding early so that she is fertile again. Which is her choice, but I don't think that it's entirely accurate to say that she doesn't try to control her fertility.

cheesypopfan · 16/12/2009 11:44

i just can't get my head around how anybody with that many kids finds the time and energy to procreate. DH is lucky to get a look in once in a blue moon and we 'only' have three.

In all seriousness, not how I would want to live my live, but if all her kids are happy and well cared for, I wish her (and the new little un) all the luck. There may be a point to be made about the mum being healthy enough to look after her kids, but the same could also be said of many people such as smokers and men who father children when they are close to retirement, and so, all in all, I don't really think its any of our business as long as the children are cared for.

5inthesleighbed · 16/12/2009 11:55

Poor little baby, hope she is ok.

Aren't they now grandparents as well?

sobloodystupid · 16/12/2009 19:15

Yep, they're grandparents, their son Josh and his wife had a little girl in October last year.
I hope that Mum and little Josie are doing ok. I had a really bad feeling when I heard this but thankfully I have no psychic skills...

She looks pretty good too I think. I watched one episode where she was going out horseriding with some of the older girls and she looked great. Seriously doubt I would look anything like that after 18 kids.

largevirginbirthandtonic · 17/12/2009 16:00

Good grief some of you are pretty horrid on here.

Having an emergency section and an early baby means that this should what, scare her out of having any more children? Prove that she has behaved irresponsibly and deserved this?

I sincerely hope the baby and Michelle are ok.

AvadventCalendar · 17/12/2009 16:02

Just read a news report on ABC saying that the baby has been able to take some breastmilk

MaggieAnFiaRua · 17/12/2009 16:25

Obvioulsy i hope the baby is ok. but now they have a grandchild, couldn't they sort of take that as a signal to hand over the baton/???

my dc2 was born at 36 weeks and that was hard enough. he looked like a chicken wing, and i was terrified taking him home.
