this is just window dresing to please daily-mail readers, in the same way as science commissions are window dressing to please Times an Guardian readers.

although i think its fair to say commissioning bodies that are neither representative of public opinion, nor evidence-based seems even more pointless than normal.

if you want expert opinion: comssion experts, if you want public opinion : survey it....if you want heavily biased opinion (similar to the kind already abundant in politics) ...they have the right bunch.

SGB I really don't mind people challenging my ideas, in fact I openly welcome it, not least because it's a great opportunity to reconsider and develop my thoughts about life. But you really don't help yourself. You remind me of my other opinionated RL friends who will fight tooth and nail to always be right, no matter what and never, ever concede that a different opinion to theirs might actually have some truth in it. What they don't realise is how little people respect their viewpoint as a result of this and how much people laugh about their ridiculous bull-headedness behind their backs. I strongly suspect that if you apply this approach to your RL conversations you'll find the same. I'm rather wearying of this discussion because it's not a true discussion at all. I think I'll leave it there.
