which in case you don't know is a restaurant named after a cheery slang word for women's breasts, to see if he was ready for the 'birds and the bees' talk..

He's not a complete bonehead, this guy - he writes a parenting blog, fgs - but this news makes me want to sob.

Dear Lord, do we really need yet more low life american trash culture invading this country?

The Mans reasons are grotesque.

Tortington · 15/11/2009 19:21

Prime example of why we need parenting classes IMO

Tortington · 15/11/2009 19:22

universal parenting classes

Curiousmama · 15/11/2009 19:28

There seems to be one extreme or another over there IMO. Very wholesome or porn as acceptable. The ex Texan had lots of posters of scantily clad women on the walls of his dss room. The youngest was 11 but I doubt they had just been put up?

onebatmother · 15/11/2009 20:07

I think the thing that's so disheartening is that this pantomime of availabiliyty is conflated with female sexuality.

choosyfloosy · 15/11/2009 20:33

Well it's a new one for dh to come out with - 'Darling I need to go to Hooters, there's a school trip on'.

DollyPS · 15/11/2009 23:04

scottishmummy to be fair the one in Edinburgh is a lapdancing one not an actual food place you eat at. Oh and an 11 wouldnt get in there as its over 18's only.

I think its daft this is the place he chose for his lad for the sex talk beggars belief but well........

moondog · 15/11/2009 23:10

I went to a Hooters out of curiosity when i was in the States with work earlier this year. I couldn't quite believe such a place could exist even in redneck country.

The food was terrible, the girls charming (they wear really thick brown tights) and it was full of American equivalent of chavs.

onebatmother · 15/11/2009 23:59

really moondog? Like, woolly tights? or.. American Tan figure-skater style tights?

But no, emphatically NOT great for boys - or at least, not great for the inner boy whose capacity to relate to women in a way which will nourish him as much as it does them cauterized.

(I know you know this Riven, just want to make the point)

The boy is being damaged, and will pass forward that damage to the girls he comes into contact with.

Mother of Christ that is vile. I had no idea that such places existed. And taking your son there? Would leave DH if he did that.

onebatmother · 16/11/2009 09:56

precisely threadie. Feels abusive, in the same way that giving yr son porn (suprisingly common iirc) would do.

It's a hideous drawing of line in sand. You and me on this side son. Women on the other.

Words fail me.

This thread has reminded me that there wasa mum in the playground recently wearing a Hooters T-shirt, proudly showing it off to everyone.

The mum in question is an ex-governor of the school, well-spoken, horsey type. Not at all the type you would associate with a "lads mag" restaurant.
