Man made climate change a lie?

Cortina · 21/10/2009 12:46

Know there is a thread on this (sort of) but read this and was interested in what the 'true facts' are as far as we can tell?

Here's the deal. Global Warming Alarmism and keeping the lie alive is now a massive industry. If the IPCC gets its way, it will become the single biggest industry on the planet consuming significant financial resource and killing many other industries. Globally there are already hundreds of thousands of jobs at stake entirely dependent on this lie. The scientists, IPCC, lobbyists, green energy, Govt agencies were the first to feast in this trough. Now with emissions trading schemes, etc. on the horizon the money involved will rapidly escalate from the tens of billions to the tens of trillions of dollars. With those numbers coming, we now see the greediest pigs of all getting involved - the bankers and financiers.

How did we get to this? Well the average person is essentually stupid and has virtually no understanding of science and physics. If a message is repeated enough by people they trust they will eventually believe it is true despite all the evidence, data and facts that show otherwise. That's why we still have religions and belief in god and gods, and accepted that WMDs existed without any proof at all.

It is simple IQ test.

Belief in Man-made Global Warming = total idiot

I was told years ago, say fifteen years, that the earth cooled and warmed throughout it's history and that this is no different. However I do believe that man is a pollutant and does little good to respect and look after the world in which we live.

ooojimaflip · 21/10/2009 17:09

mayorquimby - so what do you think we should do about the earth warming? Ignore it? Prepare for mass migration? Accept the inevitable passing of the human race from dominaince? Geo-engineering? What?

cory · 21/10/2009 17:40

As several posters have already pointed out- the fact that there is a natural cycle of warming and cooling which has nothing to do with man does not in any way disprove the idea that there may be additional warming which is caused by man.

hifi · 21/10/2009 20:19

funny how recycling goes down the pan when theres no money to be made from it.totally agree its a scam and people in a hundred years time will be laughing at us.

stuffitllllama · 22/10/2009 02:53

Oojimafip, I think climate change is there, whatever happens. Pollution, overuse of resources, we can do something about. But really, we aren't going to make much difference to climate I think. We have to accept the changes.

bernadetteoflourdes · 22/10/2009 03:03

Margaret Thatcher is one of the principal architects of the Great Global Warming (caused by mankind) debate. And she set the ball rolling in 1983/84 when she knew she was going to take on the Miners. Maggie had to win this fight for several reasons. To settle old scores with Arthur Scargill,Mick McGahey, and Joe Gormley of the N.U.M as she was still smarting from the Tory Govt being bought down in the early 70's by the aforementioned and their "Blackout" strikes.
Thatcher also wanted Britain to wholly embrace the Nuclear option which meant phasing out our huge reliance on coal, she knew it would be a tough battle and she prepared accordingly (she also knew that the public would side with the Miners. The ace up her sleeve? She was the first PM with a Science degree was a former practising Chemist and used this to her advantage, (who argues with the Scientist? only another Scientist!) Thatcher turned her attention to the British Antarctic Survey Mission and pumped millions of pounds their way (this eventually led to her opening the Hadley Centre for Climate Research) Thatcher asked them to come up with a fool- proof theory to confirm that it was the burning of fossil fuels and the subsequent increase in CO2 which would cause "Catastrophic Climate Change". She could prove her point ref the Nuclear op! Her former Chancellor has confirmed this. Now I am no Denier for the sake of it I agree with many of you re: addressing pollution, overuse of our precious finite resources , POPULATION CONTROL those dirty words, no one wants to talk about. But I also know that I hated Thatcher with a passion and I hate her lies and deceit which are with us today, she loaded the gun the scientists in her pay fired the volleys. The climate is changing yes, but I beleive we have been fed a sorry tale blaming it all on mankind. So No I wont got to BandQ and spend a sodding fortune on a plastic windmill, and I fucking resent Miliband telling me I am the same or worse than a Fucking Holocaust Denier, how dare he!! I went on the "Coal Not Dole" marches in 84 whilst at College! But it is not me sitting on the roof at Kingsnorth with a "No more Coal" Placard. Coal mining was a noble industry and the destruction of the Pits caused decades of problems in the former prosperous Pit areas of the North, SouthnWales and even parts of Kent. The former pit villages comprise some of the poorest areas of the UK today. Yes, we can do a lot to improve and clean up our planet we all need a conscience on this, but I am not going to have the fucking likes of Gwynneth Paltrow or Hilary Benn for that matter tell me my son cannot see some of this beautiful world coz only the rich will be able to afford to fly. Yeah the return to the "jet Set" era, good enough for multi-millionaire like Mark Thatcher but not peasants like me. And No! I will not condemn my son to an adulthood living in a freezing Yurt eating "Soylent Green" (VG sci film IMHO). The Kyoto Protocol was a con based on a skewed computer model "the Hockey Stick" which has since been removed. Many eminent scientists are choosing to recant and are being ostracised by the Yes Men camp. Send for the fucking Inqusition all "Deniers will be made to Recant, Rack and Thumbscrews optional" So come and fucking get me I have my compost pile sticky bombs at the ready! Manmade Climate change is now an excuse for a sodding Tax Bonanza. a bigger division between rich and poor, (think Brazil) and an excuse to charge us Council Tax and NOT come and collect our rubbish ever again. I will not buy into this folly Iam sorry! ( Oh and have you been to the Netherlands lately? Go, you will "hate what they have done to the place". Giant windmills everywher even loads ironically right up next to the largest Container Port/Oil Refinery inthe world). Sorry this is so longwinded but I am passionate on this one, and my hero is David Bellamy he loved our planet but was the first of the naysayers.
And my anti hero is that fucking bitch on the PTA in DS's school who lectures us till the "cows come home" and had the gall to tell us to let our DC's watch that apalling piece of scaremongering on tv last night (that AD, did anyone else see it? Far worse than the Maddie McCann Ad in the cinemas. Yeah and said mum has 4 kids and drives an MPV ("second hand though"), I swear she exists and can bore for Britain on this subject, she goes on MNet so I hope she bloody reads this and sticks her carbon trading tokens where the Sun don't shine. Im outta here PEACE xxxx

throckenholt · 22/10/2009 07:18

do you really think the sainted Maggie was so powerful ?! Do you really think that the thousands of scientists around the world working in very many different fields of research are all Thatcher yes men paid to perpetuate a scam to kill of coal in favour of nuclear ?!

wow.

clop · 22/10/2009 07:35

Somebody who uses F'ing 5 times in one post, including publicly labeling her PTA Chair a 'f---ing bitch' in the stated HOPE that same person will see it on MN, and then signs off with 'PEACE'... probably isn't worth your while to argue with, Throck.

throckenholt · 22/10/2009 07:41

no - probably not.

I am just constantly amazed at the convoluted justification people come up with.

The depressing thing is while these people refuse to make any changes to their lives it makes the future worse for all of us.

I'm going to keep away from this thread now - life is pretty depressing personally at present and threads like this don't do anything to help

ZephirineDrouhin · 22/10/2009 09:39

Interesting post, bernadette.

See here re Bellamy's sources for his statement on climate change.

paisleyleaf · 22/10/2009 09:46

I just don't know.
There was a documentary on channel 4 about a year ago, showing that climate change is not manmade - and it was really convincing.

(Why can't we have things to convert the sea water to drinking water? Like round the world yachtsmen have, but massive. To give people around the world enough water and help with the rising sea levels. Perhaps it's a silly idea).

ZephirineDrouhin · 22/10/2009 10:00

Was that "The Great Global Warming Swindle", paisleyleaf? Did you know that Ofcom ruled that Channel 4 had breached the broadcasting codes on impartiality in this programme?

throckenholt · 22/10/2009 10:00

Why can't we have things to convert the sea water to drinking water?

you can - it takes a lot of energy to do it though, and you also have to do something with all that salt.

Right - note to self - I really must leave this thread now !

ZephirineDrouhin · 22/10/2009 10:01

Here

paisleyleaf · 22/10/2009 10:02

Zephirine, It could have been, and I didn't know that.
(aren't there a lot of impartial documentaries though)?

throckenholt, I thought there must be a reason.

ZephirineDrouhin · 22/10/2009 10:11

I'm sure documentaries always have some sort of inherent bias, paisleyleaf, but there is a broadcasting requirement for "due impartiality" to ensure that broadcasters are not misrepresenting facts. If anyone cares enough to complain they will, and if the complaints are serious enough Ofcom will investigate. This is what happened in this case, and Ofcom ruled that the documentary was not impartial, and that it misrepresented several of the scientists who featured in it.

paisleyleaf · 22/10/2009 10:25

ah. Thanks for the link, that's interesting.

ooojimaflip · 22/10/2009 13:13

I think the suggestion that scientists are part of a giant conspiracy to distort the facts just shows you haven't met many scinetists. The idea that they could agree on anything long enough to form a conspiracy is the most far-fetched part of the whole thing.

choosyfloosy · 22/10/2009 13:27

With you oojimaflip.

Tiring thread. Note to self - save power by switching off computer more often

bernadetteoflourdes · 22/10/2009 13:28

Clop if you read my post you would see that the"bitch" Ireferred to is on the PTA (45 Mmembers) she does NOT chair it so I suggest you get your facts right. And Zepherine Thanks for the Bellamy article published by Monbiot I note. George Monbiot IS probably more powerful than Margaret Thatcher has had made millions from the "man-made" global warming scam, so he is hardly impartial!

bernadetteoflourdes · 22/10/2009 13:30

bernadetteoflourdes · 22/10/2009 13:31

Oops sorry pressed twice!

motheringfrights · 22/10/2009 13:49

Clop, going on the figures you posted about CO2 concentrations over the centuries, does that mean we need to return to a 19th Century way of life to bring them down to a meaningful level?

motheringfrights · 22/10/2009 13:53

Sorry, that should probably say a sustainable level.

bernadetteoflourdes · 22/10/2009 13:55

Oh and Throckenholt Thatcher and Reagan made a formidable duo and were an extremely powerful pair in the 80's. And no apolgies for the expletives perhaps I should refer to Cunting Climate Change Conspiracies. I was on the fence on this issue for a while but I have taken time to look at both sides of the debate and I think there is no balance in the argument. Scaremongering is NOT balanced science it is something from the Middle Ages. Climate Change caused by man is the new world religion and I refused to be brainwashed. Are you going to refund all the taxes when they discover it is a myth, it is another sodding excuse to exploit the poor! Conserve our resources, limit pollution increase aid for 3rd world countries stricken with drought , floods etc I am all for this electric cars FANTASTIC. But I will not be bamboozled. Oh yeah do you remember all the scaremongering from Government in the late 90's and the money thrown at countering "The Millenium Bug" The same bug which was going to bring us back to the technological Stone Age? That was a big damp squib wasn't it! And I am old enough to remember all the Protect and Survive Govt. information films from the 70's . Build your own thermo nuclear shelter from string and cardboard. More unecessary scaremongering of the populus. You can show me all the computer models and name all the eminent scientists on this one and they all agree it is still CONJECTURE on their part but they happen to beleive very strongly in the evidence. As I said before the Hockey Stick computer model used at Kyoto has been discredited by all, denier and beleivers alike it was flawed science and that is now accepted by the consensus. Al Gore,( Mr BigChampion himself,) received massive funding from Enron who made millions by starting the Carbon Trading scheme. Maggie set the ball rolling and it has snowballed (excuse the pun!) it is a theory which suits anyone who wants to pin their colours to it especially those looking for infinite research funds and businesses like Enron out to make a fast buck. Asking to hear both sides of the debate without one lot being denounced as loonies is all I want!
