Just to respond to

"You were at just as much risk of being quoted by a journalist before"

I really don't understand that - please explain how the odd one off is exactly the same risk as a weekly column that will definitely be quoting an MN thread?

There were risks both times but they are not the same - surely that's obvious?

MaggieBeauLeo · 15/08/2009 20:25

yeah, which day does the column appear?

can't wait to see who's quoted this week!

anyoldDMfucker · 15/08/2009 20:25

And log on to mumsnet.com for an excellent support network of mothers, where you can chat online and will find empathy and advice from those who have been where you are now

not any more as noone will reveal that theyve been where you are and you wont reveal whats going on with you especially if its something that will look good in the daily garbage

LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 20:26

I know they weren't consulted initially, but my impression was they had spoken to LH and were happy about things. Perhaps the legal stuff is to confirm.

HolyGuacamole · 15/08/2009 20:27

I think it is on Tuesdays and Thursdays......oh sorry, I mean Dude Where's My Car. Whoops.

theyoungvisiter · 15/08/2009 20:27

"By LIZS on Sat 15-Aug-09 20:25:43
so has anyone from MNHQ given an update today ? Presumably legal opinion is on hold until Monday"

I suspect they are lying in a darkened room with a cool flannel on their brow, uttering gentle moans!

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:28

Lily

"But it is my opinion that the risk of being identified hasn't changed much.
....
I totally agree with Soupy when she says "I don't think the actual level of risk/publicity has changed at all, it's just more obvious now"

which is it? Has it or hasn't it?

Hunker, where's the hijack come from? Have I missed something?

OP posts:
LIZS · 15/08/2009 20:29

bigchris it is a Thursday in Femail feature pages . I'm not sure that MNHQ has given a green light , but rather felt at the time they had no redress other than to appeal to the columnist to be circumspect about material and attribution. However that position may have changed since , depending on legal opinion re copyright vs. fair use.

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:29

Oh and I've already made the point that much as I love the DM I can see it makes good business sense to be associated with other publications etc (except apparently not because no-one will read it apart from MN-ers ) but I think the whole thing needs to be handled differently

OP posts:
LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 20:30

StealthBear - I'm confused - those two statements say the same thing - that the level of risk hasn't changed, but the perception of risk may have done.

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:31

the other says hasn't changed at all
I rest my case!

OP posts:
StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:32

shineon, in fairness it's me who keeps starting the new threads I have a dull life atm

OP posts:
LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 20:32

Oh fgs, it's a figure of speech. Point is risk hasn't changed, perception has. OK?

KingCanuteIAmAndTheDMCanFOff · 15/08/2009 20:32

Well... somoen elsewhere said that someone somewhere else had said that it was now included in the registration thingy but I cannot see it anywhere so I am not sure about that....!

No update - which I don't like, HQ quite often seem to go quiet before carrying on blindly despite our protestations!

Shieny

that was a bit uncalled for!

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:34

OK no problem
I still don't understand how the risk hasn't changed at all when stuff is going to a wider audience.
I know there was risk before and there is risk now but the two risks are not the same.
Joining in hunker's hijack (or she's posting on the wrong thread entirely ) it's similar to when people say formula feeding doesn't increase the risk of ear infections because bfed children get ear infections too.
Yes, but the risks in both cases are not the same - people seem to struggle with the concept of shades of grey.

OP posts:
BitOfFun · 15/08/2009 20:35

Oh come on, lighten up! Come and be silly with us Kingy and have a drink!

TheDMisfuckingDeemented · 15/08/2009 20:35

Can someone please give me a brief synopsis of where things stand at the moment? Have MNHQ sold us out to the DM?

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:36

and relative risks

OP posts:
StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:36

where are we being invited to?
Daily Mail forum?

OP posts:
theyoungvisiter · 15/08/2009 20:37

ok, idle poll of the week: do you think the DM row will top moldiegate for rumbling on? How many moldie threads were there?

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 15/08/2009 20:37

tyv I think on a par
no idea how many threads

OP posts:
LilyBolero · 15/08/2009 20:38

Ok, I put that badly, imo the risk hasn't significantly changed. Because I honestly believe that google is far more of a risk. And the riskiest thing of all is to post in a blind faith that it's 'safe' on MN.

You might (and probably do) disagree with me. But that is my opinion.
