Yes, of course, Flight, that's why I wrote such a long response - was trying to explain the context! Thing is, the more people understand what is going on, the better. Most SWs are very probably well-intentioned, but there are things that should not be happening - it's not one bad case, it's a series of them.

Tazz, I think John was responding to an earlier post by Flight about discussing the facts of cases on here. So sorry for what happened to you and your family.

There are lots of things happening that shouldn't.

I'm working with a lady, who is currently pregnant. her first child was removed by SS at birth and she is currently terrified her second child will also be removed. The justification for this is that she has a learning disability, and 'neglect' was sighted. Despite the fact that she was never given an opportunity or support to try to care for her own child, which she desparately wants to be given.

Mermalaid, that's terrible but I have heard about that sort of prejudice towards people with LDs before. Do you think charities such as Mencap would be able to help - I mean in terms of addressing prejudice? Mencap have been campaigning about discrimination by the NHS, maybe they'd be interested in SS too.

Also might be worth thinking about contacting the Equalities Commission, have taken over the work of the Disabilty Rights Commission. I know the argument is that child protection overrides everything else, but still might be worth a try.
