I think it is a rather nice send off,
Fitting.
Nice to hear others sing his songs

OP posts:
brightongirldownunder · 08/07/2009 14:33

Are you seriously saying, Aitch, that people who want to pay tribute to MJ's talent on this thread are deluded and are not abiding to the rules of mumsnet?
Because I wasn't in the room with him and the children (whose parents gave permisson to sleep over) I cannot pass judgement , so I'd rather stick to the OP.

brightongirldownunder · 08/07/2009 14:33

That kind of made sense...

daftpunk · 08/07/2009 14:34

aitch...what do you think will be gained by continuing with these "abuse" allegations?...seriously.

for the one that asked about seeing it

brightongirldownunder · 08/07/2009 14:38

I went to a memorial of a friend I hadn't seen in years. I read a poem and burst into tears as remembering him brought back some images of the great times we'd had. Memories, you see, are timeless.
Still miss him, silly bugger...

Rhubarb · 08/07/2009 14:39

I didn't mention you. Just thought it interesting that, despite the thread title, posters are still very keen to trundle out the allegations.

We forget that they are still, allegations.

Yes it's a horrible thing to be accused of and if he is guilty, then he deserves scorn. But we must also be mindful of the fact that he has family, children for whom he was just 'daddy'.

Interesting that in a crime such as this, the rumour is enough to convict you. Even if you are found guilty. Remember the Rachel Nickell murder? How we all thought Colin Stagg did it? Even when he was released and the case thrown out, people thought it was him and the police said they were not looking for anyone else. How wrong we were.

My point is, we don't know enough about this case to make a judgement. And it does seem a bit cruel, to be discussing these allegations on the day of the mans funeral, on a thread set up by the OP to be a tribute.

lucykate · 08/07/2009 14:41

i guess i kind of thought, if she was that good a friend, with that close a bond, the man was clearly not right, both mentally and physically, where's she been for 18 years.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 14:41

just read the maureen orth articles, dp. it's a catalogue of grooming behaviour dating back to the early nineties. he was a poor, poor, talented bastard, but he shouldn't have been sleeping with young boys. you wouldn't let your neighbour do it, why could he? (because he's rich and famous and protected by some very heavy people. same reason he was acquitted.)

and brightongirl, no, i don't think i was saying that. this OP simply stated the name of a tv show and then said she liked it. tbh i thought it invited people to disagree.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 14:43

his funeral was a few days ago. his memorial service, a mega-telecast from a stadium, was yesterday.

Rhubarb · 08/07/2009 14:45

You're very informed! Luckily I've managed to turn the TV over to more informative programmes and so have missed most of the hype.

3littleboysmum · 08/07/2009 14:46

I agree with brighgirl... and daftpunk. Nothing more can be gained by continuing to go on and on and on about these "abuse" allegations.

Aitch please let people talk about the memorial rather than past allegations of which are now done and finished with.

You can start you own thread.

Lulumama · 08/07/2009 14:46

i thikn it is virutally impossible to extract michael jackson the person/father/brother/son etc from michael jackson the groomer of young children and all the other stuff that tainted his life.

teh abuse scandals dogged him for over a decade. you can;t pretend that they did not happen nor have an effect on his career

ilovemydogandmrobama · 08/07/2009 14:47

Thought the funeral was yesterday?

AM sure I saw footage of the family going from Forest Lawn (cemetery) to the Staples center.

Rhubarb · 08/07/2009 14:49

Lulumama, yes you are right. I feel it is a shame though, because he is guilty in so many peoples eyes, yet we may never know the full truth.

There are many questions about what went on that will now never be answered.

Perhaps it's my law training, but I'm never comfortable with presuming guilt based on media reports. One thing law has taught me is that nothing is ever quite as it seems and there is A LOT that is kept from the public.

Lulumama · 08/07/2009 14:52

the truth will never out. even if he was still alive his perception of reality and what was acceptable and moral differed so vastly from most people's, that i don;t think the full story would ever come out

brightongirldownunder · 08/07/2009 14:52

Lulumama, it probably killed him.

Aitch, would you let your child sleep with an adult who was not a relative and was obviously obsessed with him/her? Maybe start that as a thread....

Leave this one to the discussion of the memorial - be it vulgar or not.

pigletmania · 08/07/2009 14:56

Being able to describe Michael Jacksons genitals are not substantial evidence, he could have walked in on him as he was in the bathroom, or getting changed. Michael like many people might have walked around naked in front of him. A lot of naturist families doe this no evidence of abuse.

bobbysmum07 · 08/07/2009 14:56

The 'widely reported fsct' that Michael Jackson and Brooke Shields had not seen each other since 1991, is, I suspect, as accurate as the widely reported 'facts' in the Vanity Fair article. In other words, unsubstantiated rumour.

I don't believe anything I read in the media. In fact, I don't believe anything I can't see with my own eyes or hear with my own ears.

I saw and heard that little girl last night send a message to the world that her dad was not a monster. And I believed it.

brightongirldownunder · 08/07/2009 14:59

MMJ its not ok for a child to sleep with ANY "bloke". Why would anyone think that was normal. Its plain weird, and thats why if people want to discuss it it should be on a new thread.

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 15:03

But if something is inappropriate does it automatically make it abuse?

I don't think anyone would suggest some of the actions were inappropriate. But did abuse take place?

Surely the only people that really know/knew are the child/ren and MJ. The rest is speculation surely?

3littleboysmum · 08/07/2009 15:06

At the end of the day he was a little boy who had a dream to be a singing star.

He lost his childhood for that dream so he paid a very heavy price to become a that star.

He never knew what it was like to live life without media attention.

If he could speak for himself now as a 50 year old he may say he wished he'd done things differently.... who knows????

I was not a massive fan or anything but I did and still do enjoy his music and for that I have the greatest respect. No one can deny him of that surely???

The media has a lot to answer for. Many lives have been devastated because of their greed to make money off them.

AitchTwoOh · 08/07/2009 15:08

lol at you choosing the facts that most substantiate your fanciful idea that MJ was an innocent naif. if you want to start a tribute thread, bgdu, maybe you should. you could have candles and everything.

what's your legal background, rhubarb? are you a lawyer? i've done legal courses too, they mostly tell you to stick to what you know and can prove if you're a lawyer, but i don't remember them having much to say about blethering on the internet. unless you think MJ's family might sue us? which would be weird, as you'd think they'd start with Maureen Orth, who has repeatedly put forward very cogent arguments as to his guilt.

Nancy66 · 08/07/2009 15:08

..at the end of the day he was a paedophile.
