They are gorgeous, but they all have a slight resemblence to monkeys as did my two los too

Oh good grief. Only a mother could love them, frankly. I can't believe I'm going to have one of those again soon. Where do I purchase some Rose-coloured spectacles? Why didn't I get a kitten instead?

It's true - hormones make us think they are beautiful and take pictures of then when they are like this....when in all honestly they are pretty scary.

My mum and dad told me that camera film was expensive when I was born - and I 'wasn't worth taking a picture of (!)' for the first few weeks. I was a much loved only child.....but even they could see that forceps marks, bright red frizzy hair and a nasty rash was not worth capturing on film!

Oh God they're ugly . And yet so very, very lovely.

My DD3 is 4 weeks old, it's hard to remember/believe that she looked like a wizened old man monkey/boxer who's done 15 rounds in a bare-knuckle fight too.....

God that has made me broody!

Soupy - I can remember the feel of DS and his smell rather than quite what he looked like at that stage, although I have got photos.

That is so sweet! I love the one with his tongue out!!!

They do go through a bit of a rough time being born though!

Little ducks! Come On, girl. There are only about 3 which are not utterly bizarre looking. Just look at that first one- it's a creased up startled alien with overbite and forehead hair. And it's not alone! The rest of 'em look just as horrific! I feel a lot better about my last scan now. It clearly showed that my baby has a duckface and I was slightly perturbed but I am now reminded that most newborns are super strange to look at.

I am soo broody now.

Yes, they look all scrunched up and simian like, but, as Soupdragon says, it brings it all back. When they are all velvety and downy and hot against your breast.

And breathe, I am NOT having any more babies.

I wouldn't call them ugly. Puffy, yes. Wrinkly, yes. A bit strange looking, indeed. But ugly, most definitely not! I think they're all a bit grumpy about being pushed out of the cosy little place they called home for 9 months!

Newborns are so special. They cast such a spell.

Wow. Fresh babies, you forget how wrinkly they are newborn.
DS2 had a ridge across the top of his head like a cornish pastie. Poor little fella.

Weird. That made me weep just a little, and I'm not normally like that about little ones. I thought they were lovely, not ugly, just because they are so very human, and yet so very alien. As well as being hairy monkeys.

Some are really cute....others...well they'll grow into their looks DS was affectionately called 'Little Monkey Man' for the first month or so as he had a furry face

Good photos though, made me sad that I'll never cuddle a seconds old baby again DS is 1 year next month

DD2 was a mexican wolf-child at birth, covered in black hair. She's a real beauty now though (and we still talk in wistful tones about how she looked at birth - we thought she was adorably ugly). DD1 was scrunched up, cross-eyed and slightly gingery (skintone as well as hair colour).

DD3 is only 4 and a bit weeks old, but these pictures have made me broody
