Swine Flu. Are we in big trouble with this then?

This sounds worse than the bird flu that thankfully never really happened.

news.bbc.co.uk/mobile/bbc_news/top_stories/801/80183/story8018356.shtml?

Sky news have a press conference on now about possible cases in new york. When do we start panic buying .

Oh, yes, Riven. ARRRGGGHHH! OMG! Especially on hearing the two who have it have mild symtpoms.

I learned long ago that panicking makes everything worse. Without exception.

I take to heart the words of the fellow climber John Long, author of 'Climbing Anchors' and many other tomes:
'Now there is always something to do, even in the worst of situations, if you just keep your wits about you.'

expat you're doing a stirling job keep it up keep it up

expatinscotland · 27/04/2009 19:02

I'll bring you a jar of Scottish midges, Riven, just so you can have a Scottish experience, and take heart in that, if malaria-bearing mosquitos come to the UK, they'll reach England first .

boredwithmyoldname · 27/04/2009 19:02

worth thinking about now Riven though

it'll be cheap as chips

We've got tons of Green & Black up here, too, Riven. I'm having Butterscotch tonight.

Oh, is Beanfest okay for dinner cooked over the trangia? I always throw in a tin of chopped tom, olives and onion in for a little umph. Over boil in the bag rice or pasta.

Mori-Nu tofu in lentil soup for second day dinner, and rice and black bean burritos for third day dinner.

Who's for camping?

boredwithmyoldname · 27/04/2009 19:10

then you are immune

not to swine fever but to press releases and breathless announcements

go forth and multiply

NotmyELFtoday · 27/04/2009 19:16

whilst people will say that we are due a pandemic that will kill millions, here are a few others things we're "overdue" or "due"

  1. the switch of Earth's magnetic poles (overdue by a few thousand years apparently)
  2. the total melting of the ice-caps with its increased water volume flooding the lands and causing untold disaster (due in the next 50 years or so)
  3. Super volcanic eruption / earthquake
  4. astroid hitting the Earth (tis like a pin ball machine out there according to some)

I dont want to make light of peoples fear, as it is scary to see these headlines in the paper, but whilst I do secretly worry, there is a part of me that thinks there is not much I can do if these things are going to happen, so try not to let it affect me.

(goes off to try and practice her "not bovvered" look!)

I know, let's all have a nice sing-song, take our minds off all this nonsense.

Anybody like Amy Swinehouse?

SallyJayGorce · 27/04/2009 20:09

We could open a few bottles of swine too.

mollyroger · 27/04/2009 20:14

What was the UB40 song I used to like?
Oh yes, Dread, dead swine...

eastereggfeaster · 27/04/2009 20:14

as long as everyone stops bloody swhining about it.

SallyJayGorce · 27/04/2009 20:17

Pigs might die.

eastereggfeaster · 27/04/2009 20:48

ROFL at pigs might die.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 27/04/2009 20:57

Are the pigs actually dieing? Haven't heard anything on the news about that - will there be mass culls like in foot and mouth?

expatinscotland · 27/04/2009 20:58

i like that ol' hippy song someone performed at Woodstock, i can't remember the name and need to look it up on YouTube, 'And it's 1-2-3-4, what are we fightin' for? Don't ask me, I don't give a damn, the next stop is VietNam . . . and it's 5-6-7-8, open up the Pearly Gates ... whoopie! We're all gonna die!'

Ivykaty44 · 27/04/2009 21:48

don't look ill to me

LisamumtoJake · 27/04/2009 22:02

lol i am loving this thread, i was worrying myself stupid about this stupid swine flu, especially since its in scotland (me sitting in edinburgh) i was dreaming up bizarre scenarios of me, the daddy and Jake all wearing masks, but now i have come on here i cannot help myself but giggle, thanks!!

dinasaw · 27/04/2009 23:02

Now would be a really bad time to be a busking mariachi musician out on the streets with your sombrero.

Gillyan · 28/04/2009 00:17

Has it been confirmed in Scotland then?? It is well scary. I think we need to see how fast it spreads within a week. It is a worry and apparently we are due a pandemic. Not a good time to be heavily PG or have a newborn.

No point in panicing until we know anything I suppose, I'm sure the government will keep us informed.... or pigs might fly!!!!!!! Oh shit, they might actually fly though, the virus could mutate and they could grow wings and spread their pig virus everywhere..............
