I agree that men do in general parent differently.
Still now I worry that my oh is looking after the kids in the same manner that I would and my eldest is in year 7!!!!

But I sit back and think that that is the enormous benefit of having 2 parents care for you. The child gets to have both parenting approaches.

As a new mother I would have loved for my oh to be able to have stayed off work (and been paid) even if it was just to reassure me that I was coping ok.
As it was he was not allowed time off and I had to cope alone (not ideal for any new parent and bad for the baby too )
This in turn leads to the feeling of " mother's know best" and pushes fathers out more and piles the pressure on the mother to cope.

I notice this is from the equalites watchdog, which looks at numbers before choices. Women don't want their maternity leave "forced" to be cut just to equal stats out. Families need the room to make the right choices for them.
