Isn't it horrendous?!

You spend your career trying to improve the status of women and your husband HAS A WANK ON LABOUR PARTY EXPENSES

Ear bashing would be the least of it!

Poor Jacqui

Quattrocento · 29/03/2009 14:33

Sleaze sleaze sleaze

At least they will be voted out next time ...

bronze · 29/03/2009 14:33

Poor woman

I wouldnt want to be in his shoes right now

morningpaper · 29/03/2009 14:34

Yes I'm sure that the Tories will be right there pushing back the frontiers for women's rights

TsarChasm · 29/03/2009 14:35

Got "an ear-bashing"? I bet he did. She always sounds like that'd be her speciality anyway. I bet it's not the first one he's had from her.

Quattrocento · 29/03/2009 14:36

I'm no Tory, MP although I do happen to think that JS has elastic morals when it comes to expenses.

I also happen to think it is necessary for governments to get voted out when they start either (a) fiddling expenses or (b) getting bungs from Al Fayed in brown paper bags.

FAQinglovely · 29/03/2009 14:39

so we vote one lot of sleaze bags out (Well I won't- you'll never catch me voting Tory - I'd rather vote the Raving Loony Monster Party than vote Tory ) and we get another lot of sleaze bags in.

Beetroot · 29/03/2009 14:53

a minister husbands looks a at porn OMG!! How shocking

really do we need to know this?

theyoungvisiter · 29/03/2009 14:57

I'm not sure that blagging two £5 "adult" films on your expenses and then fessing up really counts as sleaze. It's hardly on a par with gerrymandering or being convicted of perjuring yourself in a major court trial, is it?

But perhaps I have a more "elastic" definition of the word sleaze...

Villette · 29/03/2009 15:07

It's not the amount of money that is an issue; it is the fact that as Home Secretary, the public is expected to pay for her husband to have a w*nk.

How can she now have any credibility now when she talks about regulating the sex industry or the need to collect confidential data?

Quattrocento · 29/03/2009 15:07

But it's not just the porn films, is it? The girl's got form:

  1. Her husband was discovered to be behind a series of letters to newspapers applauding her work yet failing to disclose that he was both her husband and in receipt of a £40,000 salary to manage her constituency office (it is a very dodgy practice to "employ" relatives as a tax-deductible expense).
  1. She designated as her main residence a house owned by her sister in order to claim a parliamentary allowance for her constituency home. She has claimed more than £120k over six years

And tell me, WTF has she ever done for women? If you'd said she'd actively curtailed civil rights, I'd agree. But she's done fark all for women, other than discredit them as holders of high office ...

FairMidden · 29/03/2009 18:22

I agree that this particular instance isn't exactly high quality sleaze but it's just too damn funny to slip under the radar - what a beamer! Her attitude to expenses on the whole is pretty distasteful - she maintains that she "hasn't broken any rules" so it's OK for us taxpayers to fund a home she doesn't need and a "manager" who spends the petty cash on flesh movies. Yuck.

I would hate it if the Tories got back in though

Great post Quattro.

Poor Jacqui?? Please! She is a total disgrace - some of the claims that she has put through expenses are scandalous (88p for a bath plug fgs!)

I think this is an absolute insult to people who have lost their jobs and cannot afford to pay their next bill. A mistake? - the only mistake for them is that this has been leaked to the press.

SHE NEEDS TO GO NOW!!

Sorry, but I don;t think you can just single her out (not that I'm defending her snout in the trough attitude). They're all bloody at it!

The whole system of MPs expenses needs to be changed. Its appalling that claims that are obviously morally out of order, can again and again be deemed as being within 'the rules'.

helsbels4 · 30/03/2009 10:22

They're all corrupt in my opinion.

QuantitativeMeasure · 30/03/2009 10:24

ditto helsbels4 comment.

I trust not one one of them.

LouMacca · 30/03/2009 10:27

I totally agree they are all at it but the thread title just refers to her.

I would have put she needs to go now and take the rest of the corrupt MP's with her but then there wouldn't be anyone left to 'run' the country!

Jux · 30/03/2009 10:29

Quattrocento is right. J Smith is a sleazebag among sleazebags (JS not QC!). She is a vile an awful human being who thinks nothing of screwing what ever she can get in whatever way she can get it. She wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire but she would rifle your pockets for your wallet. Appalling person.

beanieb · 30/03/2009 10:29

I find it weird that her husband is getting so much attention for two films when she claimed for the following items (below)- I bet she's relieved that the attention has been temporarily moved to her husband's stupidity.

Also I wonder what interesting things will be revealed when the project to print all MP's claims is published. :

"Ms Smith has claimed for virtually every major household item over the past five years, right down to the kitchen sink. It was a £550 stone model from Habitat. The minister, who earns £141,866-a-year, even claimed for an 88p bath plug.

She had already spent £460 on a dining room table, £704 on a sofabed, and £1,000 on an antique fireplace. She claimed for the cost of coal to burn in it.

Other items included a Hotpoint cooker, at £399 plus £15 connection, a Hotpoint tumble dryer worth £189 and two washing machines in under two years, a £249 Ariston and a Zanussi worth nearly £300.

Her entertainment centre was to include DVD players, two Samsung widescreen televisions and two digital set-top boxes worth more than £1,100.

The claims have come to light as work nears completion on a £2million project to publish all MPs? expenses claims in the past five years, after they lost a three-year legal battle to keep the details secret following Freedom of Information Act requests"

pagwatch · 30/03/2009 10:29

This isn'y about 'shock horror a ministers DH watches porn' The fact that he was watching porn just makes the story funnier.

I am just annoyed that there seems to be a system in place that allows them to claim for films watched in a house we are funding - and also that he 'earns' £40,000 for apparently possessing skills that make him too fiucking thick to realise he should not claim for his viewing and too stupid to understood the plot of Oceans 13 without watching it twice

Jux · 30/03/2009 10:29

I should preview my posts
