Sad
OP posts:
Shhhh · 23/03/2009 22:10

shilpa shetty issue...yeah ok, bring that up after her death.

That issue was a heap of people jumping on the bandwagon.
She apologised, not needed imo what more did she need to do..?

kingprawnjalfrezi · 23/03/2009 22:11

Didn't mean to get you so worked up - like I said before, I thought the point of this was that we could give our views - wouldn't be much good if I couldn't say what I thought would it.

Haribosmummy · 23/03/2009 22:13

GOsh, you do have a high opinion of YOURself, don't you?

What would we do if you couldn't say what you thought????????????

OMG The sun would still rise and set even if KPJ didn't have her say..

Unbelievable.

Haribosmummy · 23/03/2009 22:16

But, just as a small reminder,

THIS isn't about you, it's about JADE GOODY.

The great and good KPJ might not get that, but it would seem that JG touched many more lives than you have. regardless of whether you agree with it or not.

ANd the people whose lives have been touched by her have every right to respect her in death.

If you have any ounce of decency you will leave it now.

kingprawnjalfrezi · 23/03/2009 22:22

I think we're on very different wavelengths. I'm not as nasty as you think. (possibly time for a name change

Gunnerbean · 23/03/2009 22:22

Kingprawnjalfrezi, do you have children?

Have you ever watched the film "Bambi" with them?

Have you ever repeated to them the famous line spoken in the film by Bambi's mother; "if you havent got anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

I think in some situations those words are extremely appropriate and the immediate aftermath of someone's death, would seem to me to be perhaps the most appropriate situation.

So, do us all a favour and do one will you? The longer you persist the more of a prawn you're making yourself look.

Yes, you are right in pointing out that this is a discussion forum but I don't think at a time like this your crass and insensitive remarks and observations are anymore welcome here than they would be over on the general bereavement topic.

seeker · 23/03/2009 22:24

6k - will somebody please tell me one good thing for the benefit of others Jade Goody did in her lifetime?

You don't HAVE to do good for others - she made a lot of money for her children and that's fine. But if you're going to warrant all this public adoration, then surely you need to have done more than that.

And, the bottom line is - how would you feel if your teenage daughter said "I want to be like Jade Goody when I grow up."

She was on TV and popular because PEOPLE wanted that. They bought her books, her perfume etc. She was just a human being, and one who had had a very unfortunate life for the most part. Media interest is driven by the people who BUY the media. If hypothetical WE didn't bother, then the media wouldn't bother. If WE weren't so interested in CLEBS then no-one would waste their time chasing them about.

At the end of the day, she is just another poor soul who has died from a terrible illness. I for one can empathise with her and her family because my mother died young, and having a child of my own really brings home how sad that is. I'm equally sad about the mums I hear of on here (and there have been a couple this week alone) who have died, or who will die.

I see no point what soever to come on here and be rude about someone whose family is grieving. If you're not interested then don't read the thread.

Haribosmummy · 23/03/2009 22:26

Right now, I'd prefer my DSDs to be more like JG than KPJ.

That's for sure

kingprawnjalfrezi · 23/03/2009 22:27

Thanks seeker - take the heat off me a bit

Gunnerbean · 23/03/2009 22:27

Seeker why don't you run along and start a new thread about that YAWN.

Surely life is too short for you and your ilk to invest so much energy into, and so much venom towards, someone whom you clearly had no regard for while they were alive, and is now dead anyway.

2shoes · 23/03/2009 22:31

Gunnerbean are you in charge of mn now? Portofino my mum died too early, but she didn't sell her battle with cancer story first.
sadly by doing this people will voice and opinion. Jade was very unpopular just befroe her public dx. of course not very one is going to be kind.

Shhhh · 23/03/2009 22:31

as I said on another thread, she got her Obitury in the Times today. Not many people get that...she touched many people, low/middle/high class.

seeker · 23/03/2009 22:31

Venom? Where's the venom? Realism, possibly.....

I am sorry she's dead, and incredibly sorry for her poor boys. But I will NOT be part of the sanctification. And I will not connive in "spinning" her life so that my dd thinks of her as a role model. I wonder whether many people on here have teenage daughters.
I suspect not.

Portofino · 23/03/2009 22:33

Seeker, from what I can see, people liked Jade just because she was what she was. She never pretended to be anything else. She KNEW that she wasn't clever/well educated but could laugh at herself about it. And she wanted to raise money at the end so that her kids could have an education! Whatever else she did or didn't do, at the end she was only thinking that her boys should have a better life than her. Isn't that what we all strive for?

2shoes · 23/03/2009 22:33

I hate it when people are turned into saint when they die, surely it is better to remember the real person warts and all.

Haribosmummy · 23/03/2009 22:34

I do, seeker and, thanks ever so much for taking the heat of the centre of the universe

No one is asking you to spin some story, no one is asking you to be part of any sanctificaition. All anyone is asking you is to shut the fuck up for 24-48 hours.

Is that REALLY TOO much to expect???????????????

Not absolutely sure why I should.

So, if your teenage daughter said "I want to be like Jade" you'd be really happy, would you? Personally, I want more for mine.

2shoes · 23/03/2009 22:39

dittany do you actually know what tourettes is?
it is a disability, not a swear word

beanieb · 23/03/2009 22:39

Seeker, was it you I was talking to in the other thread? I can't remember.

It was the one of the other Jade Goody threads on the front page where there was a discussion about this thread and how it had started as a thread for people to sympathise but had then ended up as a bit of a trainwreck because people hadn't seemed to have grasped the fact that there were other places to discuss their dislike of the whole fame/media situation surrounding Jade Goody.

Maybe it wasn't you - probably not as that would explain why you are posting here in the way you are?

hang on - I'll find a link for you because I think the other thread is probably going to have conversation in it which is more the kind of discussion you are looking for. Be right back.

kingprawnjalfrezi - you too. You will probably be more at home and less stressed out in the other thread, because this thread clearly distresses you.

2shoes, my mum was 21 when she died (I was 4). She became saintly in the eyes of my family. Even her apparently bad temper (especially in the mornings) became a totally forgivable thing - though my dd seems to have inherited the trait and i am less forgiving......

No-one is saying that Jade was a saint, or a role model for your teenagers. At the end of the day she was a reality TV "star". I'm sad for her family for the reason i gave earlier. Some people though seem to thrive on the mass hysteria that this brings. That is NOT Jade's fault though.
